Under Sink Storage Solutions

There's something about January that gets me organizing my whole house.
Storage in a bathroom is so important.

My daughter's bathroom has a single sink vanity.
The only storage in that bathroom is below the sink in the cabinet.
This is what it looked like yesterday underneath her sink.
It was a mess.
I started by totally emptying the cabinet.
I had found this super cool contact paper, so I decided to remove the old paper.
I have never had as much difficulty removing old contact paper as I did yesterday.  I had to get out a scraper to get off all of the paper.   It took way longer than it should have.
So much better already with this cool chevron pattern.
But I still needed a solution for all of the stuff.  I found these at Bed Bath and Beyond.
I bought the large and the medium stackable drawers.  They fit perfectly and use the otherwise wasted vertical space under the sink.
What a big difference!
Hope you all have a great weekend.

Bathrooms

Roomspiration continues today over at Homemaker on a Dime with bathrooms.

I thought this would be a great opportunity to give you a tour of the bathrooms in our home:
My powder room is my favorite.  I think it most accurately depicts my current style.  I recently redecorated the bathroom by adding crown moulding, new wallpaper, new lighting, two new mirrors, artwork, shower curtains and faucet.  The whole bathroom makeover was under $1000 (which included me hiring someone to hang the wallpaper and someone else to install the crown moulding).
The shower curtains I found at Home Goods and tied them back using extra silk fabric I had from another project.
I modified the existing light fixture.  All I did was turn the light fixture upside down (the lights used to face down), added new glass from Lowes and two magnet crystals to glam it up.

The mirror is from a local lighting store (a great source for mirrors).  The faucet is from Home Depot.  I LOVE the new faucet.
My daughter's bathroom came out adorable.  She wanted a pink and brown bathroom and I put it all together for very little money.  Before my daughter took over the guest bathroom it used to be painted yellow.  I left the yellow at the very top and painted the bottom Restoration Hardware (RH) Petal Pink and made a scallop using RH chocolate.  The window treatment is from Target's shabby chic line and I embellished it with a ribbon and fabric glue.  The "S" is from Home Goods.

Her crystal faucet was a mission to get.  After searching the internet forever, I finally found this gorgeous faucet at Faucetdepot.com.  For one reason or another it took almost 9 months for the faucet to arrive.  It was worth the wait.
The chandelier is from Home Depot for $99.  The towels are from Home Goods.
When my daughter starting using the guest room bathroom, it was also time to make over the Jack and Jill bathroom, that the kids once shared, into a "boy's" bathroom.  I painted the bathroom, replaced the builder-grade mirror with a mirror we had in the attic and painted my son's initial on canvas.
Other simple changes included new hardware for the cabinets...
a new faucet from Home Depot...
new lighting...
and a new shower curtain and bath mat from Restoration Hardware Baby and Child.
I hand painted letters to spell out DREAM to finish off this bathroom makeover.
My master bathroom only had a mini-makeover when we updated our bedroom with colors in bronze, cream and robin's egg blue.
I like to roll towels to bring in my color scheme.
The cornice boards I made using MDF.  I covered them with batting and silk fabric (this is the fabric I used for the ties in the powder room bathroom).  I then hot glued trim to the cornice board.
Finally the last bathroom on this tour is our basement bathroom which I just made over.
As part of the makeover I painted the cabinet and mirror using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.
I am off to link up :

Sinks For Two

It's funny...now that my parents are both retired, they seem to be bumping into each other all the time while trying to get ready in the morning.  When they both worked, they left at different times, so one sink in their master bath was more than enough.
Their master bath had a vanity with one sink and a make-up area...which by the way, my mom NEVER sat at.  So, they decided it was time to add a second sink.
They started by removing the doors and drawers.  They also had the cabinet maker construct a base for the new cabinet.
Next a hole was cut into the existing countertop.
Luckily the Kohler sink and faucet they already had was still being made and they were able to order a second sink and faucet.  They cut down on the expense of this project significantly.
The original cabinet maker also constructed two new doors.
Just like that they have sinks for two.  Doesn't it look like it's always been there?
It's working out great for them.  No more fighting over the sink in the morning.  As a bonus...it's a real plus for resale value.

Don't forget that Roomspiration begins on Monday.  Get ready to link up all of your fabulous rooms.

Have a great weekend!

Bathroom Makeover Revealed

After working on my downstairs bathroom for a few weeks, I finally settled on a paint color.  Last weekend I painted the bathroom Benjamin Moore Glacier Lake.

What a difference a gallon of paint can make.
I finally got rid of the flesh colored walls that have been haunting me for months and replaced it with this awesome color that added much needed life to the bathroom.
Here is the reveal!!  I absolutely love the transformation.
This is where this bathroom began.  Blah, blah, blah.

I started by painting an old cabinet using chalk paint.  I used Anne Sloan chalk paint in Duck Egg.  You can check it out here how I did it.

I then transformed a mirror I had in a closet using inspiration from a catalog.  Check that out here.  Then I went to Home Goods and bought some new accessories, rug, towels in my new color scheme.
This has to be my favorite new addition to the bathroom.

I went to Michaels craft store and bought four pieces of pre-cut wood to create a frame.  I found these in the aisle where art canvas' and paints are found.  Usually canvas is stretched over these frames.  Instead I had some awesome fabric I had never used that I wanted to stretch over this frame.

After putting the frame together (which just snaps together like a puzzle) I laid the fabric over the frame and decided how I wanted the pattern positioned.  I then cut the fabric leaving approximately 2" on all four sides.
Then using my staple gun, I stapled and stretched the fabric over the frame.
In less than 15 minutes I had this super cool "art" for the wall.  My original intention was to stencil the bathroom.  After looking at the bathroom night after night and trying to visualize the stenciled walls, I decided this would be a better way to add some graphic pattern to the walls.
Much less work, less commitment, and less busy looking.

I also added a basket with towels for guests to use.  I have some "show" towels in the bathroom, but I also needed some that guests can actually use.  The basket is easy to remove before a shower and by placing the basket in the shower, it makes the room appear deeper.  It's an optical illusion, but any illusion to make a space look larger I'm willing to try.
I'm loving the new look...how about you?  The lighting has not changed in the room at all, but doesn't the after photo look so much brighter.  That's not just the photo...that's really how the room appears now.  I can't wait to hear what you think.
