2023 INTERIOR DESIGN TREND FORCAST

Hola my friends....

A few of you reached out with help to get my post delivered....thank you!

I will get on it and hopefully there is a good solution.  Blogger is kind of "old school" and most people have moved on to a better platform but as usual...here I am stuck in the "past" :)

Today I am joining some of my respected blogger friends to discuss Design Trends of 2023.

Now we know that if it is trending too hard then we actually need to stay away from it :)
The thing I like to stress to people is that the reason you hire a designer.....is to get a curated look that not everyone has....that is just my opinion....ha ha.

Anyway lets get to the reason for this post!

I am not sure I would describe these as "trends"
per se....because things/looks actually make it full circle in design.

The first trend I have noticed and I mean EVERYWHERE are fabric covered lampshades!

They were allover in the 3 showhouses I went to during the holidays.

Whitney Parkinson
Jared Hughes

I found these below on Etsy....and I saw so many different sellers!

The next thing are wall murals....
There are so many out there now including peel and stick!

Morris and Co wallpaper has been front and center.

I have seen so many designers use their papers and I have fallen in love with quite a few!

I about died when I saw this graphic on their website.....

I know...I am known for my love of black and white and I do still love it but to make it warm you really need to mix your textures!

The last thing I am seeing is brown....as in "brown is the new black" haha

And when I say brown.....that covers a lot of territory!

You can see the variations in the colors above.  Of course my favorite is not included in the above and that would be SW URBANE BRONZE.

Take a gander at it in the walls of my sisters office.

And her bookshelves.....you can see it looks different depending on the light!

So to recap:
Fabric Lampshades
Wall Murals
Morris and Co wallpaper
The Color Brown

Now you need to grab your coffee and shuffle over to my talented friends and see what they have to say.  What is good is that we live in different parts of the country so I know we will see a range of perspectives!

PROJECT UPDATES

I am starting this post before I go workout....I argued with myself all morning about whether I do it or not....yes...no....and then I said "just do it Sherry" and that seemed to answer the question.

I mean if I had a nickel [I could retire] for every friend who has said this to me....
"you are lucky you like to workout".  Well I am here to tell you that yes I do but I don't always want to do it!  I think what keeps me going is the fact that it's easy to get out of the habit.... and SO hard to start over!

There you have it.

Lot's of little design things happened last week....let's review!

#projecttownhouse is coming along!  I still need a rug and a desk chair. Also the lamps....the ones there are just placeholders.  Oh yeah and the darn bed which gets pushed back on the regular....

Loving the pillows.....

The second girls bedroom is also coming together.
Got the pillows but still waiting for the rug which will dictate a few other decisions.

I found this vintage runner at an Estate sale and it's perfect for the kitchen....winner!

This is the upstairs loft and I had picked up this vintage sofa, 2 tables and floor lamp at a local flea market......

I ordered the rug from West Elm.

I picked up a pillow:)

I'm working on the son's den on the bottom level....

New pillows in the sons bedroom.....

This is the bottom level entry....which got painted SW Urbane Bronze.

The wall on the left will get a ton of their existing art.....

And hey.....have you tried these?  So. Darn. Good.

What are the plans for July 4th?

I am working on Saturday and Sunday I usually head over to my sisters where we spruce up her bedroom and bath and spend some time with her.  She has had 2 treatments and right now has 2 left.  The week after the chemo is usually pretty rough :(

Kitchen is coming along.....cabinets go in on Tuesday!  I should have an update next Friday.

UPDATE ON MY SISTERS KITCHEN RENOVATION

Well.....what can I say about vacations!  They are wonderful but dang coming home to the "real world" is a bit of a struggle....

I got in Friday evening and Sat and Sun my sister and I worked all day cleaning out my younger sisters kitchen and family room as they were starting the demo of the kitchen on Monday morning.

Whew.  It was a far cry from what I was doing last weekend:)

Anyway this is the kitchen I blogged about on Dec 1st and this is how long it took to find a builder, order the cabinets and appliances!  Can you believe it?  #everythingtakesamillionyears

There was one little issue that popped up the end of April and that was.... my sister [the one who owns the restaurant] was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer.  Yeah....that kinda sucks right.

I mean.....crap.

The good news is that it is treatable and has not spread beyond the lungs.  The bad news is well....it's cancer and nobody likes to hear the C-word.

She has a great doctor and is getting chemo so our fingers are in the praying position.

All this to say that my sister and I were trying to set up her "suite" upstairs so she would be comfortable without a kitchen.....can that even happen.....and we had to move the bed, put down a rug, carry up a heavy chair....which involved me holding said chair while it was wedged almost in the door while we took off the door......and so on.

But...dang it we got it done and she was pleased.
High....damn....five to us.

So the demo is done...

The above is the changes....we broke into a closet behind the kitchen to allow for a bigger space and turn the island.

Above you can see the closet on the left...that allowed for double ovens next to the opening of the kitchen...

This the the fridge wall changes....

All ready now!

I did make a few design changes....of course right?
I mean that is what we do....I had way too much time to think about it:)

I was torn between doing the cabinets White Dove or Revere Pewter but she has always wanted a white kitchen so that was the deciding factor!

I am using the same faucet that I have in my kitchen because I LOVE IT.  Yes I know there are more "trendy" ones now but I am all about function and I love the ease of this one.

I will pick out the countertops on Monday.  I am torn between using a quartz and a quartzite.  Tick Tock....I need to make this decision ASAP.

The backsplash is not white but really close to BM Revere Pewter so that is what color I will be repainting the floors.....

It probably wasn't the best time to do a kitchen reno but in the long run I know she will be so happy.

I still have a post about my vacation for ya!

I hope everyone has a great Fathers Day.  My Dad passed away at 63....but he is watching over us I am sure of that!

As always thanks for reading.....

BEFORE AND AFTER OFFICE MAKEOVER

I am so glad you enjoyed the tour of Pam's getaway home!  What is amazing to me is that while it looks old....it is not.  It was all newly built in the last few years!

Another thing is Pam is the sweetest person ever....

So how was Christmas for everyone?  Mine was very low key....I stayed home Christmas Eve day, night and most of Christmas until I walked down to my sisters for a quick dinner!  We ate on paper plates because her DW is broken....... we still have not started her kitchen!  Soon though.....planning is the most important part!

I have hinted for a while that I decided to do a little makeover in my office/laundry room.  This was my husbands domaine....and well....he is gone so I decided to make it mine!

I can't tell you how good it feels to have this room be purposeful for me!  Let's start from the beginning...well I say that.....but it was such a quick decision I did not take before pics when it was a complete mess...and when I say mess I truly mean it.

One more thing....I needed to stick to my budget...using smoke and mirrors which really means PAINT....which as we all know is a game changer!

Here is the laundry area....after I had cleared most of it out.  It took a few days to go through everything and find new homes for a lot of it!  I mean why is there a roasting pan in here:)

To the right of this picture there is another knee area and a window which is where my ex sat.  I literally never occupied this space.

So what was the plan?  I decided to remove all the upper cabinets and paint.  Also leaving the tile floor, bottom cabinets and the countertops which are cheap laminate!  Luckily 30 years ago I picked a neutral :)

And it's painted.....SW Urbane Bronze!

Below you can see I was excited about accessorizing the space...haha!

Alrighty then.....

Yup....the excitement was building.....

As much as I wanted white oak floating shelves I decided NOT to spend the money and went with using Poplar for them.  My guy put a nice lip around them so they looked more finished.

I ordered the brackets on Etsy and they came in a week.....

Can you feel how excited I am?  Seriously y'all this was a long time coming!

Every time I got overwhelmed  I would soothe myself with a little shelf styling....haha.

This was the dining room table....and the rest of the LR looked the same!

It  took three whole days of the weekend starting on Friday.....

Not only do you have to go through everything you have to figure out where to put it.  You might think the upper cabinets were better for storage but they weren’t.  The open shelves are so much better and visually help when the doors are open from the LR/DR.

The next thing to decide was a rug....to cover the ugly tile!  I went to Scott's and brought some home.  Now you know I am a neutral girl so of course I brought 4 neutral and I threw in one odd one:)

While I loved the one above.... when I put the colorful rug down it was a game changer!

In my opinion it looked the best and also you noticed the rug instead of the tile.....winner!

I just took some fabric and put it over a spring rod to cover the extra knee hole [after using iron on tape to clean up the edges] and it is also another place for storage now....clever girl:)

So here ya go.....

Black baskets on the top shelf hold some of my fav fabrics.  The printer used to be over by the other window and it you could see it.

Oh yeah....I ordered some cheap oil rubbed bronze knobs from build.com....

And  for the shelves I did not buy anything new except for that little basket to put the faux Target fern in!  I shopped my house and basement!

All of the art came from flea markets!

I remembered I had 2 blinds left over from when I took them out of my keeping area and I hung them myself which is a little amazing as I do not hang curtains ever!

Here is the washer/dryer side.  I did buy the white baskets at Target....

And I got the large white shelf at Ikea!  Best find ever as it fit's perfectly and makes that space very useful!

I brought the lamp in from my bedroom....

I ordered the chair from Overstock.....

I am thrilled with it....and I am so glad I did not rip everything out as what a mess and expense that would have been.

Now when you look towards the office this is the view....I know so many pictures...can you tell I am excited?  Of course it will always be a work in progress as I can use this area to practice styling!

It was such a long time coming.  Sorry this is late but I forgot to set my alarm and I was up finishing up Bridgerton on Netflix last night!  I was so so good.....but I had to go workout my knee is almost 100% [boy that took a long time]  and get Cami walked.

I also did a little makeover [meaning re-accessorizing] on my kitchen shelves, keeping area and LR so there are some fun post coming!

Y'all I am officially divorced now.  It took 461 days....after 31 years together and not a single word to me.  So there you have it.
