From TCQC 03-04-25

Guess I am not going to be able to post as regularly as I once did.  Of course, my life is a lot less busy and, therefore, a lot less interesting - even to me!  This post is a make up for the one I didn't post on Sunday and shows some quilts from the past.

Red Wave 1 - 4   Diane Firth - Australia  2005  44"L X57"W

Cotton Fabric, Machine Pieced and Quilted.

Detail

"Into the Deep"  Diane Firth - Australia  2024   12"X 12"
Black netting on front, cotton layer, white netting on back.
You can see the light shining through between the cotton strips.

Diane Firth does some experimental work using unusual materials. I enjoy all of her work and added these two to the Collection years apart.  I have been tempted by many of her creations, but, alas, money and storage space have prevented many more  additions to TCQC.

I wanted to add a website for Diane, but there are several with good pictures of her pieces and even an museum docent giving comments on a particular piece. Google "Diane Firth, textile artist" to find the websites.

Quilts from the SAQA 2019 auction. 11-24-19

Here are four more of the quilts I added to TCQC from the SAQA auction in October.

Blown by the Wind   Diane Firth - Australia  12"X12"
I find Diane Firth's exploration of see-thru quilts fascinating.

And here are three more bird quilts for the "Bird Section" of TCQC.

"Burrowing Owl with Rick Rack"  Linda Frost - Kansas  12"X12"
Screen print with thread painting on cotton fabric and rick rack. Machine pieced and machine quilted.

"The Raven Nevermore"  Pamela Burns - Indiana
12"X12"
All the materials were hand dyed or painted. I used rusted cotton fabric for the background. The Raven is hand painted with acrylic paint on cotton. I used a raw edged applique technique and adhered it to the background using fusible web. I machine quilted the piece and added hand embroidery and beading to add interest to the piece.

"Chickadee in Garlic Series"  Doreen Prakshot - Tennesee
12"X12"
Acrylic painted up-cycled bemberg silk, Warm & Natural cotton batting, cotton backing, rayon, cotton and poly threads, free motion stitched.

Re-visit a quilt by Diane Firth of Australia 01-31-16

Here is a quilt I purchased at Quilt National '07   I don't often include it in the programs I do because it must be hung and space is sometimes a problem.

"Red Wave"  Diane Firth - Australia  2005  44"W x  57"L
Cotton fabric, polyester batting, torn-strip appliqued, machine quilting.

For more information about this quilt check the previous post which I did on 10-11-09:
