Nail Design: Have A Heart

I realize it has been awhile since I posted a nail design but there is a good reason.

Just when I thought it was time to create a new design to honour the season of love, I lost the same comrade as the last time in a housekeeping accident.  I knew I hated housework for a reason.  While she wasn't lopped off at the head like she was previously, she has suffered a moderate concussion.  Once the comrades fall, it's like they all become that much more accident prone.  If you'd like a reference to what the heck I'm talking about, please refer to the post, "A Comrade Has Fallen" (click HERE to go to it--but please come back).  I can't believe it has taken almost three months for my 'comrades' to grow back to design length and then I lose one again.  Ah, the nail tragedy continues...

So, for now I'll post a design from my gallery over at Cool Nails Art that I created last year almost a year to the day.

And for a closer look at the design...

This design is based on a 'You Tube' design that I can't seem to locate to give proper credit.
  • Apply a base coat to protect the nails.
  • Add a red base. Apply minimum two coats for solid coverage.
  • Create a white French tip.
  • Add a white heart on the red just below the white tip.
  • Add white dots down the outer side of the nail and red dots across the top.
  • Finish off with a good top coat to protect your design.
There you go, a nice simple design to celebrate the season of love.

Until next time,

Nail Design: Christmas Colours

While my nails continue their pilgrimage to sufficient design length (if you are interested in the back story click HERE), I present you with another design from last year.  It is currently posted on my personal page at the Cool Nails Art website.

Instructions:
  • Start with a clear base coat to protect the nails.
  • Paint entire nail with red.
  • Next paint about 1/3 of the nail with a green appropriate for the season.
  • Add a stripe with a glittery gold polish painted on where the red and green meet.
  • Finish with 2 coats of a good quality top coat and you have some pretty fingers all dressed up for the Christmas season.
Another pretty simple design!

Now a special surprise freebie that you will only find by actually reading this post because I'm not putting it into the labels or search parameter nor telling anyone where to find it.  It is just for those of you who took the time to read through this post.  Call it an early Christmas gift.

This paper is produced at 300 dpi and is much larger than what appears here.  Enjoy and let the countdown to Christmas begin.  Keep checking back for more goodies this week.

Until next time,

Nail Design: Pink Winter Frost

Since I'm still waiting for my 'comrades' to grow back, I figured I'd post a never before seen design from last year.  It is a winter theme in honour of our first real snowfall of the season.  The design is called 'Pink Winter Frost'.

Instructions:
  • Start with a clear base coat to protect the nails.
  • Paint entire nail in a shiny light pink.
  • Add pink glitter as far down as you like. I've chosen to go about two-thirds of the way down.
  • Finish with 2 coats of a good quality top coat.
Easy peasy!

Until next time,

Nail Design: A Comrade Has Fallen

If one can mourn over the loss of fingernails, then that person is surely me this morning.  Today, after the 'death' of my baby fingernail, I had to say goodbye to nine other 'close allies' who in comradery needed to go the same route as their fellow nail.  So, in tribute to these ten fallen 'friends' I give you a design, from earlier this year that I had posted on my original website.

This was my first nail design for the fall season.  I called it 'Autumn Art'.  It is inspired by a design from 'Nail Polish Wars Blogspot' (sorry but I don't remember the website address because I wrote the idea down in my nail book a few weeks ago).

It is a pretty simple design.  Just divide each nail into three triangular shapes.  Paint each section a different fall colour (make sure you use a good base coat first).  In this design I've used a deep green, a beige and a rusty-copper tone.  After a couple coats of each colour so that they are solid looking, apply two coats of a gold flecked glitter to give it a bit of a sparkle.  Add two coats of a good topcoat and you are done.  And for a closer look:
Please take this post in the tongue in cheek jest that it is meant.  I know that there are people out there really suffering from loss and in no way do I want to disrespect any of them.  It is just that 'vanity is my name' when it comes to my fingernails, and I do feel a sense of loss now that they are no longer with me.

Until next time,

Nail Art Design: Have You Seen My Mummy???

Just in time for Hallowe'en I have a new design.  I call it, "Have You Seen My Mummy?".  Okay, I know it is a cheesy title but I just couldn't resist.  It is inspired by a design from 'Dying 4 Chocolate'. Hers of course look much neater than mine.  It is difficult to draw thin precise lines on one's own nails especially on the opposite hand.  I wish I had people to practice on.  I am willing to do it for free, but unfortunately, nobody wants to take me up on the offer.  Oh well, in the interim I guess I'll just have to keep practicing on my own nails...
  Instructions:
  • Start with a clear base coat to protect the nails.
  • Apply one coat of solid white.
  • Mix some white and gold and sponge onto nails to give it an antiqued look (sorry it's kind of hard to see that in these pictures).
  • Using a nail art pen or striper, add the black lines.
  • Create a black 'window' for the eyes.
  • Paint on two oval shaped objects to represent the eyes.
  • Using a nail pen or a dotting tool dipped in black, add the pupils.
  • Make sure it is completely dry before applying two coats of a durable protective top coat.  I apparently was impatient and mine streaked a bit, I'll blame my husband who was yawning away on the couch beside me and so I rushed it (he has broad shoulders, he can take it).
Here is a closer look, just skim over all the boo-boos:
I hope to add the pictures of all my previous designs soonMy most recent fall design is on my website; the previous ones are still up on 'Cool Nails Art'.  It will take some time to consolidate everything over here.

Until next time,
