Card Design: Scribbles Designs Challenge #30...

Oh poopiedoop, this post should have gone out this morning.  I was certain I had scheduled it, anyway sorry about that....

Hello to you on this very busy Monday.  It is the midway for both the 12 Months of Christmas and the Path of Positivity along with the start of our new challenge over at the Scribbles Designs Challenge Blog today.   This is the first of three posts so I hope you get the chance to come back and visit me later this evening as well!

This time around, for Challenge #30, the theme is Feathers, Fins or Frog Legs.  When we think of animals, generally our first thoughts often go to those that inhabit the lands around us--whether domestic or wild.  But what about the air above us and the waters below?  There is so much beauty out there, above and below land, that we often forget about.  Therefore, this month we want to see a project featuring avian or aquatic life.  So, what will it be--fins, feathers or frog legs?  However, in deference to our beloved SD character Carl, please be sure that if you chose frog legs, they remain attached to the rest of the frog.

In order to participate in our challenges you DO NOT NEED TO USE A SCRIBBLES DESIGNS IMAGE on your project but you must follow the monthly theme and the other rules that have been established for our particular challenge blog.  You can find them, along with the prize information, listed in the right hand sidebar of the challenge blog.  This challenge will end at 9pm PST on July 14th.

You can purchase your Scribbles Designs images HERE and there is a free image over on the challenge blog as well to help get you started.  Also, be sure to check out the special Freebie Friday posts as it is another great way to build your Scribbles Designs collection.

To help inspire you, I have created a fun digital card to let a friend know how awesome they are.  This card features a couple of Sandy's great fish images so as you can see I've opted for the FINS portion of the theme.

Here are my card and all the details...

General Information:
  • This card was created 100% digitally and then layered in a poster mockup.  I've been finding these awesome free design mockups.  It is a great way to see how a particular design might look in a poster, on a t-shirt, a bag, a book or about a million other places you can think of.  To me it will be a great way to showcase some future digital designs.
  • I used two fish that I had paper pieced digitally for a previous project and then just created a whole new concept for them.

FRONT

Digital Image Details:

Digital Sentiment Details:
  • This great sentiment was created by Paulette from Create with TLC.  As many of you know, I'm a sucker for a good play on words and this sentiment was perfect for this card.    While I picked it up as a freebie a while back, you can purchase it as part of the OFishally (Officially) Digi Word Art and Vintage Image set.  I've linked the set watermark below to take you to its location in the store.  For more great freebies, click HERE to go to Paulette's blog and to purchase some wonderful sets, click HERE to go to the store.

Digital Embellishments:

  • The shapes used for matting in behind the images and sentiment are simple shapes created in Photoshop Elements.  Each shape was paper pieced with a digital paper from the Funky Florals set
  • The shadows to give each element some depth were created with a layer style, also from Sheila Reid.
Digital Papers and some of the Embellishments:
  • All of the digital products used (excluding image, sentiment, and frames) are from the Funky Florals set created by Jeanine Baechtold, available at {Computer} Scrapbook.com.
  • As mentioned in a previous post, now is the perfect time to head over to {Computer} Scrapbook.com as ALL their scrapbooking kits are currently FREE. Not sure how long it will last so be sure to check them out.
Other Notes:
  •  The poster mockup that I used to display the card is from Design Bolts

I had a chance to create a project to help provide you with a little extra inspiration.  Here are the details.  I hope I haven't forgotten anything...

General Information:
  • I have chosen to go with a digital layout for the midway challenge.

Digital Layout:
Digital Images:
  • Tropical Fish:  This time around I have managed to include three of Sandy's fabulous Tropical Fish--numbers 2, 4, and 5.  Clicking on the watermarks below will take you to their location in the store.
Tropical Fish 2
Tropical Fish 4
Tropical Fish 5
    • I had so much fun working with these fish.  There is so much detail on them it presents a multitude of ideas to play with.  While it was time consuming, I think they turned out looking rather sparkly and funky for that matter.
      • Digital Credits:
        • All the papers and the floral element used in this creation are from the Funky Florals kit created by Jeanine Baechtold available at {Computer}Scrapbook.com The fish have been digitally paper pieced with some and others were used as backgrounds both for the overall design and in behind the sentiments.
        • Many of the elements have been altered using glitter layer styles from Marisa Lerin at Pixel Scrapper.
        • The wire frame and the scalloped edging on the green are from templates also designed by Marisa Lerin.
Digital Sentiment:
  • If anyone is going to have sentiments about sparkle, you know it will be Paulette.  These fabulous ones are from my Create with TLC collection of images.  Click HERE to go to Paulette's blog and HERE to go to the store.
So put on those thinking caps and design a project that fits our theme.  With so many possible projects to create, the ideas are boundless.  Remember there is still two weeks left to enter at the Scribbles Designs Challenge Blog. so I hope to see you there. If you have some time, I invite you to go and check out the wonderful inspiration offered up from my colleagues on the DT.  We always look forward to seeing what you come up with for each month's theme!

Until next time,
