GOOD GOLLY MS HOLLY

I have memories of visiting the legendary Holly Harp boutique on Sunset Blvd in the late 1970s with my mom.  If you were a fashion lover in the 1970s, Holly Harp was your go-to designer for that boho luxe look of carefree Los Angeles made famous by the likes of Stevie Nicks and Michelle Phillips.  It's a look that really never goes out of style (hello Hedi Slimane).  I am always partial to the jersey pieces featuring hand-painting like the outstanding example below.  However, it gets extra fabulous as this evening dress comes with a hooded cape for the Laurel Canyon/Topanga Canyon rock star in each and everyone of us that may get goose bumps on her shoulders when the sun sets and the incense starts burning.

I am back from my latest Rainbow Tour to promote DECADES: A CENTURY OF FASHION.  I hope to be able to blog a bit more before we resume the tour in 10 days.

GO GREEN AND GUCCI

'Tis the season of green and red, but this vintage Gucci suede and leather iconic coat with gold hardware is all green, all the time.  It's always amusing that these coats are often marked rather generous sizes like a 46, but always fit much, much smaller.  I haven't been paying much attention to current Gucci collection as of late, but give me a classic heritage piece and I swoon a little.  Not to be worn in the rain, this is an ideal cool weather coat for the icon within you.  So go green and go Gucci.

Gucci leather jacket with gold hardware, c. 1970's. Marked size 48, modern size 4 - 6. SOLD

WE ALL HAVE A LIL BOHO IN US

The new sexy is not to look sexy.  Call that an oxymoron, but Pier Paolo and Maria Grazia have beautifully given women the confidence at Valentino that covered and prissy can be very seductive...just as much as letting it all hang out!  This 70s dress could have been featured on a recent Valentino runway, but you won't be able to find it anywhere except Decades. A black silk floral print beautifully made with a fine silk chiffon lining and honey-comb pleated skirt and black silk sash, turn around and the rear keyhole is a nice suprising touch.  We have no idea who made it but sometimes it's good to add a little mystery into you life as that's very sexy!

SEA FIRE

Angelo Tarlazzi was an Italian designer with a lot of French flair. His designs seem to always remain modern and fresh. One of the big trends for Spring 2012 from the runways was obviously a futuristic water world, starting with Chanel and Lagerfeld's water inspired collection, Givenchy's theme of a love affair between a surfer and a mermaid, to McQueen's sea coral details.
All the elements of a Tarlazzi design and elements of the latest trends you will find in this light mint dress. The knot on the shoulder and the bias cut creating volume through a flared ruffle. The lightness of the fabric with a iridescent mother-of-pearl shimmer gives this dress the lightness that today's trends emphasize. It is a sexy dress for a sexy woman.  In this Tarlazzi dress you will feel like a mermaid and if you reside in California it will be easy to find your very own surfer boy!
