BLUSH

A hammered silk halter gown from the 1930s with a dramatic train and sexy back is a pretty fabulous option for a black tie gala, don't you think?  Plus it's the lightest blush of pink, a color so flattering on a myriad of skin tones.  This is one of those "Old Hollywood" silhouettes that gets reinterpreted season after season on the world's high-fashion runways.  One could wear a modern version of this look, or, just be an original and wear the original.  That's what we are all about at Decades: we are fashion dictators not followers.  You be the inspiration....
Glad to be back in LA!

THE GOLDEN DRESS

If you have been watching Dukes of Melrose on Bravo you might have noticed Cameron shopping for vintage couture and purchasing an Anonymous gold sequin gown. The dress quickly found a home with the beautiful and talented actress Meg Tilly which she rocked it soon after on the red carpet. Because Cameron loves a show stopping dress, he managed to find a very similar one a few weeks ago. The dress below is from the same period, constructed in the same way, bias cut with gold sequins all over and a matching belt. We at Decades believe that every woman deserves to feel like a golden statue. And what better an options than this.

SHEER MADNESS

It is true that a sheer dress can be a bit off putting as it is hard to figure out how to wear it.  But it is actually easy and there are many ways you can make a great outfit with just this one dress. You can wear it with a slip, a black bra and black high waisted biker shorts, over a bathing suit, or over nice lingerie serving dinner to your lover at home. The sheer chiffon trend was  all over the runways this season and the 30's madness continues as we await Downton Abbey's season 4. This is the dress Lady Mary would wear to seduce her husband number two. And for those heading to Coachella 2013 this spring, wearing this dress over denim shorts will make you stand out in the sea of suede boots, feather hats and fringe.

A SONG, A CITY, A DRESS AND A LEGEND

Most iconic movies have an iconic star in an iconic dress. Jeanette MacDonald shines in MGM's spectacular movie San Francisco with Clark Gable as she sings her heart out wearing an Adrian custom made pink chiffon gown with maribou feathers. Jeanette MacDonald was a famous American soprano in the 20's and 30's and with her fiery ginger hair and pale pink gown she made such a big impression singing San Francisco in the movie with the same title, that now the song is the official song of the city.
You don't have to be from San Francisco to want this dress, you don't have to be a fan of Jeanette MacDonald (we will never understand why, but we promise no judgement) but if you want to own a piece of American fashion and film history, this is the dress for you. The dress is quite stunning and feminine in a very light embroidered chiffon and soft maribou feathers. The inside label notes that this is the third look designed by Adrian for Ms. MacDonald for the movie.

SECOND SKIN

Very 70's retro reminiscent of an Ossie Clark design, this Anonymous 30's silk chiffon bias cut floral print dress with no slip will make the wearer sensuous and sinous.
This special piece is made of strips of silk chiffon sewn together creating a fluid dress made of a singular cape-like ruffled collar. Beautiful, easy and rare, put this on and let your hair down.

L'OFFICIEL

It's official according to L'Officiel March 1934. This rose pink silk satin bias cut gown designed by Charlotte Revyl bares a striking resemblance to a design of Madame Revyl's illustrated above in L'Officiel delightfully called "Symphonie" in 1934. Popular songs in 1934 seemed to all be written by Cole Porter: from "Anything Goes" to "I Get a Kick out of You." Why I wouldn't be surprised if Reno Sweeney as played by Ethel Merman or Patti Lupone or Elaine Paige or Sutton Foster for that matter donned something similar while belting the brilliant songs of Porter. I am always aching for divine bias cut gowns from the 1930s but they tend to be primarily in dark colors or so compromised in lighter shades. For a nearly 90 year old show-stopper, this Revyl is certainly both "De-Lovely" and "The Top" so expect the unexpected "All through the Night" while wearing this symphonic and silky gown that will earn you a standing ovation. This post is pretty cliche-central, I must admit, but sometimes I just need to "Blog, Gabriel, Blog."

BRIGADOON

Have you ever seen the Lerner and Loewe 1954 musical Brigadoon? It's about a magical Scottish village that only appears to outsiders every one hundred years. I reference Brigadoon because this 1930s bias cut gown bares a label for a shop from Edinburgh called Mamie and I must admit that this may be the one and only 30s gown to enter the hallowed walls of Decades baring a Scottish provenance. Thus, this is our little couture gown that is a mysterious to me as Brigadoon was to the American tourist Tommy who falls in love with Fiona, an ultimate femme fatale stuck in the 18th century who only appears on the fateful one-in-a-hundred-year's day when the two meet and well "It's Almost Like Being in Love." And love it is for this light rose hammered silk bias halter gown with train (don't worry it has a finger-ring so you can wear this down the red carpet without some an unfortunate heel incident) that may be as romantic as walking through "The Heather on the Hill." Pure old Hollywood 30s glam by way of Brigadoon, er, Edinburgh.

TINSELTOWN BEAUTIES

Nacho Figueras and his wife Delfina Blaquier

The Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic 2011 event took part today in Los Angeles. The place was packed with the most well-dressed Los Angelenos. Not only was this the place to be for the fashion crowd, but it helped a good cause as well; it helped raise money for California State Parks. The captain of the Black Watch polo team, Nacho Figueras was there hoping to bring more attention to the sport.
As for the fashion, polo was a very popular sport in the 20's and 30's so everyone's outfit was very inspired by that decade.

Here in this photo is our very own Cameron Silver with two of the most beautiful ladies in attendance, Delfina Blaquier, Fugueras wife, and Vanessa Kay, the president of Veuve Cliquot.
Both ladies are in vintage dresses, Delfina is wearing a gem from the 20's from Decades, and Vanessa is wearing an authentic flapper dress from NY Vintage.
As for Cameron, he likes to mix modern with vintage; McQueen jacket, Jay Kos vest, Gucci boots and Hermes ascot, belt and pants.
