IN THE WILD FASHION JUNGLE

There are a few iconic YSL photographs that have stood the test of time: the two girls in le smoking's amongst the moonlit streets of Paris, Mr. SL himself wearing his, um, birthday suit and of course, Veruschka decked more for a nightclub than the wilds of the jungle in French Vogue in 1968.

Of course, this editorial practically caused a riot amongst fashionistas at the time, who clamoured to get their grub; their grub being khaki pieces from YSL's latest collection. And who could blame them? The Safari has everything a girl could want: slim-cut styles, a natural color flattering to all skin tones, a tone which evokes exotic travel . . . I mean what's not to love.

So, if you're safari takes you to the Sahara or merely just surfin', you probably want to check out this amazing khaki chic piece from our YSL selection online. Who knows what a gal might encounter in this concrete jungle? Why not come all dolled up and ready . . .

AC/DC

In 1966, Yves Saint Laurent introduced Le Smoking to women in the feminine form. Finally women could dress for a formal event, but leave the ballgown behind. It was a revelation and a signature of the House of Saint Laurent that was reinterpreted season after season. In 1968, Saint Laurent varied his tuxedo pour la femme by showing the barathea wool and Dormeuil satin trimmed tux jacket with a pair of Bermuda shoots. It was tres AC/DC, n'est ce pas? The Rive Gauche version below takes the shorts one step further into Little Lord Fauntleroy territory since the shorts are now knickers. Saint Laurent originally showed his look with a sheer blouse of Cigaline muslin, but we rather love the oyster silk Chanel bow blouse under this unusual variation of the classic smoking of the legendary Saint Laurent. Whether you wear the jacket and shorts together or separate, this is an extraordinary example of being Helmut Newton-chic when everyone else around you looks straight out of a an episode of Dynasty. Angus Young, eat your heart out.

Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche Bermuda short Le Smoking, c. late 1960s. Marked size 44, modern size 6. SOLD
