Little Red . . .

Hopefully you were able to finish that title without me having to spell it out. This little jersey dress is Azzedine Alaia doing an updated version of that little hooded girl with a pension for getting lost in the woods and talking to strangers. This dress is a deep burgundy jersey, much easier to pull off than the classic lipstick red. The skirt sits high on the true waist, from there a deep V cut top flows over the shoulders cascading into a beautiful and unexpected hood. If you choose to use the hood the dress instantly becomes backless.
Now please enjoy the poem below by Roald Dahl.

As soon as Wolf began to feel

That he would like a decent meal,

He went and knocked on Grandma's door.

When Grandma opened it, she saw

The sharp white teeth, the horrid grin,

And Wolfie said, ``May I come in?''

Poor Grandmamma was terrified,

``He's going to eat me up!'' she cried.

And she was absolutely right.

He ate her up in one big bite.

But Grandmamma was small and tough,

And Wolfie wailed, ``That's not enough!

I haven't yet begun to feel

That I have had a decent meal!''

He ran around the kitchen yelping,

``I've got to have a second helping!''

Then added with a frightful leer,

``I'm therefore going to wait right here

Till Little Miss Red Riding Hood

Comes home from walking in the wood.''

He quickly put on Grandma's clothes,

(Of course he hadn't eaten those).

He dressed himself in coat and hat.

He put on shoes, and after that

He even brushed and curled his hair,

Then sat himself in Grandma's chair.

In came the little girl in red.

She stopped. She stared. And then she said,

``What great big ears you have, Grandma.''

``All the better to hear you with,'' the Wolf replied.

``What great big eyes you have, Grandma.''

said Little Red Riding Hood.

``All the better to see you with,'' the Wolf replied.

He sat there watching her and smiled.

He thought, I'm going to eat this child.

Compared with her old Grandmamma

She's going to taste like caviar.

Then Little Red Riding Hood said, ``But Grandma,

what a lovely great big furry coat you have on.''

``That's wrong!'' cried Wolf. ``Have you forgot

To tell me what BIG TEETH I've got?

Ah well, no matter what you say,

I'm going to eat you anyway.''

The small girl smiles. One eyelid flickers.

She whips a pistol from her knickers.

She aims it at the creature's head

And bang bang bang, she shoots him dead.

A few weeks later, in the wood,

I came across Miss Riding Hood.

But what a change! No cloak of red,

No silly hood upon her head.

She said, ``Hello, and do please note

My lovely furry wolfskin coat.''

Weighted Down

We bring you the return of one of Decades fav designers, "Anonyme." We do not know who made this late 70s draped jersey gown, but we do know it's hot, hot, hot and made beautifully. The crystal trim and straps attach to a very sexy "wiggle" dress that has a hint of Kamali and Azzaro styling. With a back that goes about as low as one may go, the dress is cleverly designed with an internal weight that insures you shake your booty without busting a move. A second weight is also installed at the front of the dress so you are secured not to have a Janet Jackson moment. It's a clever engineering idea to put the weights in this dress at pivotal points. Just be aware that you will likely set the metal detector when going through security in this jersey number, but we assume you aren't wearing this to the Airport!

Anonymous black jersey ruched wiggle dress with crystal straps and trim and deep front and back plunge with internal weights, c. late 70s. Modern size 4

Chanel Jersey Purses

As popular as Chanel bags are today, there is a certain touch of elegance and true Coco style that is missing. Gone are the days of the Jersey quilted purse and gone too are the symbolic gold chain link chains and details. Mr. Lagerfeld has chosen to make the bags with highly polished silver chain, thus loosing one small touch of the Chanel aura. The fact that the bags are no longer made in jersey could be because of the delicate nature of the bags and the trend towards heavy duty leather goods. In any case, at Decades we will always love our gold details and our jersey bags.
