WE DO

There isn't a muscle queen in LA who hasn't been living in the gym on a carb free diet while catching faux soleil rays a la Tanning Mom in between crack and sack waxings...Why?  Well it's Gay Pride here in Los Angeles tomorrow and in honor of the LBGT community and its supporters please find our I DO window designed by the now-legendary duo of Jarred Cairns and Jeff Snyder and featuring two gorgeous archival Rochas by Olivier Theyskens wedding gowns and two archival Alexander McQueen tuxedos.  You can buy the Rochas gowns here, but you can't have MY McQueen as the suits are from my personal collection :)  Regardless, we wish everyone a very safe and proud weekend and send you our LOVE.
-Cameron

NOT EXACTLY VINTAGE, BUT

When is something vintage? That is a question we are often asked and the answer isn't always black and white. Take for example this Rochas gown by Olivier Theyskens from the mid-oughts. We recently purchased 9 gowns from the Rochas archive, all designed by Theyskens and many are what the french call piece unique or one-of-a-kind. Because Theyskens no longer designs Rochas and his collections were so heralded, we feel that they may not yet be vintage but they certainly are collectible and represent the best of the vintage-inspired oughts. Officially, Decades sells 20th century collectible couture (with an emphasis on the 50s to early 90s) but we've made an exception with these recent acquisitions.

First up is a divine teal and turquoise bustier gown in a spectacular Mosaic motif with a dramatic train from Autumn/Winter 2005. MET gala anyone?

COULD BE OUR FAV DRESS OF THE DECADE!

Dear Loyal Decades Blog Readers, this dress is not officially vintage! We won't try to fool you and say this is a vintage Rochas, rather it is another one of the divine archival Rochas gowns by Olivier Theyskens that we are loving to share with our clients and selling them pretty quickly to them, too! Decades sells vintage couture. Something becomes vintage when it is normally at least fifteen years old, but with a proliferation of designers of a certain age passing, retiring, or being replaced, many pieces that are more current are transitioning to becoming archival collectibles and their vintage value is inevitable. Now we won't sell a current dress by an active designer and parade that dress as vintage. Rather, those wonderful pieces are conveniently sold through our sisterstore Decadestwo, which consigns the best of current and modern designer clothing and accessories. However, we have an eye on the transitioning modern stars such as the aforementioned Monsieur Theyskens! Hence our love of these Rochas gowns, many of which are one of a kind, such as the concoction of metallic lace, organza petals, and, a train for good measure, too! Let the picture do the talking, but do note this is the only dress of it's kind from the start of the Rochas/Theyskens partnership around 2003. There are no others and once this is sold, the new owner will own a one of a kind Olivier Theyskens for Rochas gown! This is a sure- fire vintage in the making masterpiece.

Wedded Bliss

Unless you've been hiding in a cave, we're sure you are aware wedding season is underway. While many brides may choose a traditional wedding designer to outfit them, turning to a non-traditional wedding designer could equally suffice (and sometimes offer an extra dose of flair).

Known for his insistence on beauty and quality, Olivier Theyskens created nothing short of that when he sent this gown for Rochas down the runway during his Spring-Summer 2005 show. The first image above shows the actual gown on the runway in black. Meaning this gown was perhaps specially created in ivory, awaiting the perfect bride to be.

Made of ecru taffeta, this evening gown is definitely befitting any bride in search of both craftsmanship and beauty. This gown's bustier features a delicately placed peony and its construction is thoughtfully tiered, providing both a voluminous silhouette and a lot of drama. And if that doesn't seem impressive enough, this gown also comes with a matching bed coat that's intricately edged in folded ecru taffeta--perfect for continuing the festivities well into the chilly night.

WHAT WE WORE LAST NIGHT

Angelique Soave looks spectacular in archival Rochas by Olivier Theyskens at last night's Met Gala. Team Decades thanks our wonderful friend Phillip Lim for making the extraordinary custom tux (his first men's bespoke piece) for our "fearless leader", Decades proprietor Cameron Silver.

KRISTIN DAVIS IS AN AMERICAN WOMAN!

Kristin Davis wore a flawless black silk satin corset evening gown from Decades that we we acquired from the Rochas archive to last night's Party of the Year at the Metropolitan Museum of Art benefiting The Costume Institute. It was designed by Olivier Theyskens in 2005, who we will feel defined the first decade of the 21st Century through his designs that fused the past and future at the House of Rochas!

PRETTY AS A PORTRAIT

We have been so fortunate to acquire many of the pivotal runway samples from Olivier Theyskens stellar collections designed for Rochas in the last decade. The gown below features a textured silk pattern on a black silk strapless bustier gown with two round cups and exposed lingerie details in the back which scoops over your derriere. That may just be the most precise and concise description of a dress we have ever posted! We are patting ourselves on our back, but in this show-stopper gown, expect a pat on the bum when you pass an onlooker. A few clients have purchased amazing archival Rochas from Decades for the MET gala so keep your eyes open for these trend setting collectible gowns from the beginning of the 21st Century.

FROM THE RUNWAY TO ?

Here is another gorgeous archival Rochas by Olivier Theyskens. This strapless gown in the lightest shade of turquoise is textured silk with black trim detailing the bust. The dramatic back features innerwear as outerwear revealing corset bands and the skirt of the dress has a beautiful train. This is the runway sample originally presented in the Spring/Summer collection of 2005. Destined to be a major vintage collectible in the next decade, we say, get a head start and purchase a definitive dress of the first half of the first decade of the 21st Century!

HOW BAZAAR

Many of you have have emailed inquiring about the divine feather gown pictured on our post featuring images from the runway show we presented at the DADA ball in St. Louis. Well you have good taste as we think it is one of the greatest gowns from the first decade of the 21st Century. Worn once before by Nicole Kidman on the November 2003 cover of Harper's Bazaar, this show stopping gown was a one-of-a-kind design by Olivier Theyskens for Rochas. The dramatic strapless evening gown features a voluminous skirt made of hand-painted feathers in an ombre pattern starting at black to the lightest ice blue. It weighs a ton so only the Pilates toned and narrow rib caged need apply to wear a gown that is not for sitting but best when worn on the cover of a magazine!

DEBUT COLLECTION

When Oliver Theyskens debuted his first collection for Rochas on the 6th of March 2003, Sarah Mower writing on Style.com raved "Olivier Theyskens, the prodigiously talented young Belgian, returned to the Paris scene to make his debut at Rochas and bowled over his audience with a show that was nothing short of magnificent. Having leafed through the annals of 1950s Parisian elegance, Theyskens proceeded to redefine the romance of the suit, cocktail dress and grand evening gown in exquisite couture-grade materials, making them relevant for a whole new generation." Editors, buyers, and the fashion loving public went crazy for the revival of Rochas but were a bit shocked by the five figure prices for many of the garments that may have used Haute Couture techniques, but were part of a ready to wear collection. Regardless of the sky-high prices, we all agreed that the collection was beautiful and we are happy to have many archival and one of a kind dresses from Theyskens brief and historic run at Rochas including look 35 below from the debut collection for Autumn Winter 2003. A tangerine melange of draped organza and ombre petals forming the skirt, the color, style, and quality of this dress (the construction is exquisite inside and out) is enough to make you swoon and even pass out. Our first archival Rochas sold almost the minute we posted, so who will be the lucky new owner of this runway sample of historic significance the from the first decade of 21st century high fashion? Nothing has surpassed the beauty of Theyskens' work at Rochas. Although his collection for Nina Ricci were exciting, the debut of Rochas hit people over the head with beauty.
