MORE FROM THE ZIP LOCK COLLECTION AT DECADES

During NY Fashion Week, don't be surprised if you see me hauling a backback from show to show.  I stay with my friend Rod in Harlem and between shows I often change (sometimes in alleys) because well, it's fashion week, and the world needs (like a hole in its head) fresh looks from "Baby Cam Cam" which I procure from my massive and heavy backpack.  Regretfully most men's clothes won't fit in a zip-lock bag, but an ultra light Leonard jersey dress will!  Imagine having a dozen of these in your tote and just changing for 12 shows in one day?  That would be so clever.  Alas, we only have one Leonard jersey dress of which we can offer you, so enjoy this totally MOD and modern way of dressing.  Boots or heels or sandals, a season-less and weight-less was to dress by Leonard.

LEONARD ISN'T PUCCI

Many call Leonard the French Pucci, but both esteemed Houses have distinctive prints.   In 1958, at the encouragement of Jacques Leonard, Daniel Tribouillard opened Leonard Fashions and by 1960 had secured a very unique printing technique.  Eventually the orchid became the symbol of the house famous for it's ultra light silk jersey dresses weighing just 150 grams!  Leonard is not as ubiquitous as Pucci and hasn't been able to be reborn as brilliantly as Peter Dundas has done at for the legendary Florentine fashion brand.  However, Leonard still has a bit of an insider exclusivity which makes this velveteen jacket of marigold-based florals (Leonard is often inspired by Japan) so special.  Just like the silks, this year-round velvet, is ultra-light weight and totally season-less.  Perfect for brightening up any and every day!

Get Busy!

Leonard (pronounced LAY-OH-NARD) was well known for their unique and colorful prints and this tunic is a testimate to that. It has an extremely colorful pattern depicting an Indian Kama Sutra scene. The details of the scene are highlighted by hand with gold paint which really makes the scene come to life. Pair this tunic with some jeggings, or if your feeling frisky, some short-shorts and good to go get some.

Art Nouveau Easter

April will be upon us very soon, and we all know that means its time to find that perfect Easter Sunday outfit. Here in Los Angeles, Easter Sunday is usually a nice sunny hot day, making this silk jersey Leonard peasant dress the perfect ensemble. Leonard is often referred to as "the French Pucci," but Leonard's prints were a tad softer than most of the Pucci prints. This dress has a floral Art Nouveau design in pink, lilac, blue and orange pastels. The dress has a yoke neck, peasant sleeves and a gathered waist with belt. The belt originally had two gold ends, one on either side, sadly, one is missing. Other than that this dress is in great shape, and needs a fabulous Easter party to attend.

WHEN IT RAINS, IT POURS

We mean this title in more ways than one. We keep acquiring great Leonard dresses and it's raining cats and dogs in Los Angeles. Why post a dress worthy of a vacation in the Tropics? Well, surely our blog readers have heard of Tropical rainstorms and when we look outside the large glass windows of Decades, we fantasize that this is a Tropical rainstorm in Grand Cayman. Consequently, this Leonard is the perfect dress to weather the storm. A palm leaf pattern in bright blue, ruby red, and two shades of brown, this is the ultimate tee-shirt dress of cotton jersey with a collar and a button-down-the-front style that has a coordinating belt. So easy to wear, so easy to pack; now all we need is the sun!

NO HANGER APPEAL

This is a dress that we would say has absolutely no hanger appeal! It looks like a big wide muumuu on a hanger, but this Leonard has a marvelous reveal when it touches skin. It's actually a great comfy tropical print jersey dress that can be worn with or without a belt and it's actually kind of sexy! We've shown in belted with a vintage YSL 70s belt if you would like a defined waist, but we also love it loose. It's conceivable to wear this as a tunic over pants or tights when the weather is cool and the tropical print can make the grayest day bright. When it's warm, just throw this on with a pair of sandals and you are good to go.

ARE YOU ON VACATION?

Are you on vacation? We are not! Team Decades is terrifically busy with last minute Holiday shoppers, voracious blog readers, tourists visiting Los Angeles and our store, and of course, we are maintaining our blog. Through thick and thin, Decades will keep you satiated with wonderful vintage temptations right through 2008. (Don't fret, we will be blogging in 2009, too!)

This Leonard dress begs you to take a vacation and take the dress with you. With bright neon trim and straps plus a very sophisticated tropical print against a black jersey background, the dress is in the slightest of silk jersey, so it's packs up great. Got flip flops? Throw them on with this dress and you will look appropriate for a beach side holiday dinner in the Caribbean.

So many of you are probably reading our posts at this time of the year on the beach via Blackberry, so put on some SPF and remember, we ship globally via Fed Ex.

Leonard for Fall

If you have begun to ponder what will be in fashion this Fall, we have the answer. This lovely floral Leonard dress will be all the rage this year while the leaves begin to turn colors. The dress is a long sleeve silk jersey with a fall foliage print. The sleeves of the gown are made of a silk chiffon, this gives them a translucent quality. The mid section of the dress is gathered and studded with the same gold buttons that are used on the cuffs. When one wants to look like a lady, one turns to Leonard, and this lady is the height of Fall fashion.

PUCCI VS LEONARD

Which way do you go: Emilio Pucci or Leonard? These two competing wonders of the print worlds share a divine design and the Midas touch with swirling dervishes of zigs and zags amidst bursts of flowers and hallucinating mind blowers.

We are presenting two dresses below that represent each of the fabulous print houses and actually share something in common: a shades-of-brown color story. The Emilio Pucci is a long sleeve and round neck dress in stripes of gold and brown, boarded by a vaguely tribal-meets-geometric pattern. The Leonard dress has a slight V-neck and its heavily detailed pattern includes abstract swishes in gold, orange, brown, and violet.

If you can't choose which way you go (Pucci or Leonard), we say go both ways! Two loves are better than one.

Emilio Pucci for Lord and Taylor silk jersey round neck dress in shades of brown, c 1960s. Marked size 12, modern 4 to 8. (Dress is not flawless, some spotting, but we still love it!) SOLD
