THE BLING RING

Coco Chanel famously declared that before you leave the house take one piece of jewelry off. She may have been right but the opposite works as well. If you pile up lots of pieces that you love, they will find harmony and make a statement. Play up your face this fall with oversized jewelry to bring the attention where it is needed. With collector pieces like these from Chanel to Eisenberg, you can never go wrong.

KJL HEAVEN

Kenneth J. Lane started his illustrious career designing jewelry in 1963, after leaving the Vogue art department in New York. K.J.L. became known for designing large, bold pieces with interesting color combinations. Much of the K.J.L. jewelry was inspired by astrology, flora, and fauna. The ten bracelets and single necklace are a fine representation of what was being produced by Kenneth J. Lane in the late 1970's. All of these pieces were purchased by a single owner at the K.J.L. boutique in the Rodeo Collection on Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills CA.

Each piece is listed below the pictures, with a brief description and size information.

Kenneth Jay Lane That's Out of This World!

One of the highlights in our recent haul of Kenneth Jay Lane jewelry from the 1970s was this stunning, chunky gold belt adorned with discs in jade, magenta, and ocean blue. It's quite a piece for the avid KJL collector, a great way to add pizzazz to a solid colored dress. We've photographed it three ways so you can see for yourself!

Kenneth Jay Lane Coral Necklaces

Looking for a colorful summer necklace? Kenneth Jay Lane is the answer! The first option is a set of two serpentine sautoirs with black, coral, and turquoise colored beads, a classic but nonetheless eye-catching selection. The second is a gold, coral enamel, and crystal necklace that looks very much like a skyscraper being moved on two wheels. It is a great piece for, say, a vacation to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where the famed Cape Hatteras Lighthouse was moved 1600 feet from the pounding surf in a feat of great engineering prowess. Commemorate man's ingenuity in style!

Set of Two Kenneth Jay Lane Serpentine Sautoirs with Black, Coral, and Turquoise Colored Beads, c. 1970s. Measures 38" and 30". SOLD

Fabulous Costume Jewelry Megapost!

Dearest Decades Readers... We know how deeply you love your costume jewelry. In an effort to keep it fun and fresh, we've accumulated some classic pieces and some wild, eccentric ones as well! The anonymous gold frog necklace and earrings below, for instance, are about as crazy and fun as we've ever seen. They're listed separately, but buy them as a pair--they should stay together, don't you think?
Anonymous Gold Frog Necklace SOLD and Earrings, c. 1980s. Available as a set or as separates.

Next, we're on to some great pieces by Chanel and Kenneth Jay Lane. The KJL earrings below are reminisecent of Thierry Mugler star-shaped fragrance bottles and ornamentation, but they're a perfect way to top off a celestially-inspired outfit. Next are four offerings from Chanel, ranging from gold quilted drops to crystal CC clips. With Mother's Day just around the corner, we can't think of a more chic--or original--gift.
