LEMONADE

From the man that dressed Marilyn Monroe and Marlene Dietrich, comes this beautiful Jean Louis  goddess gown  in a light green chiffon that is perfect for the festive spring season that makes our social calendars extremely busy, but extremely fun.  With draping reminiscent of Jean Desses, this tonal lime gown is effortless elegance for women and svelte men who know that when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

NYE 24-7

What's everyone doing for New Year's Eve?  If you have somewhere chic to go or even if you are going to stay home, why not dress up?  As a matter of fact, I realized that I dress like it's NYE every day of the week! It's fun to dress to the nines.  Jean-Louis famously dressed Marlene Dietrich in illusion gowns as well as his wife, actress Loretta Young and Marilyn Monroe.  This evening dress has an illusion bodice with an attached crystal embellished net shell with a beautiful empire length velvet skirt.  It's what I would call "terribly elegant."  Although I will be in bed on NYE, I will be wearing Sulka PJs.  Incidentally, we are OPEN on New Year's Day.  We've been so busy at the store between the holidays, Store Director Geoffrey and I decided to start 2013 open and ready for fashionistas!

Louis, not Vuitton!

The previously mentioned Jean Louis was the creator of this amazing bugle bead striped gown. He was the head costume designer at Columbia Pictures (1943-1958) then moved to Universal in 1958. He famously worked on the films Gilda, The Big Heat, From Here to Eternity, and A Star is Born. Finally in 1961 he opened his own line of ready-to-wear. It became a huge hit with the leading ladies in his films, especially Marlene Dietrich and Loretta Young (who was also his wife).

The dress below is orange, green and purple striped, hand dyed chiffon that has been covered in bugle beads of the same color. The collar and a single stripe down the back are covered in silver beads. The shape is a classic column, we added the belt to update the look, but it is a true column gown in its natural state. If you want to own a piece of Hollywood history, this is your chance! These Jean Louis gowns do not come around very often, and this one is perfect for a spring garden party, or perhaps an Easter Parade!

What do...

Marlene Dietrich, Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth, and Judy Garland have in common?
(Besides being Gay icons and amazing performers)

Marlene performing her one woman show.
Marilyn singing "Happy Birthday" to JFK
Rita in "Gilda"

They were all dressed by costume designer Jean Louis for some of their finest moments.

Pay close attention to the blog, we will be posting an amazing Jean Louis very soon.

HOLLYWOOD'S GO-TO DESIGNER JEAN LOUIS

Jean Louis famously designed Rita Hayworth's Gilda gown...enough said. That dress is so iconic and worthy of the "genius" description bestowed too often. Here is a Jean Louis evening gown from the late 1960s made for his former house model. An athletic-cut shoulder in yellow chiffon with fantastic Swarovski-crystal floral bursts that is centered with a gold bugle bead waist band. The bugle beads continue down the slit of the dress which has a sarong-style shape.

Jean Louis yellow chiffon and bugle bead Swarovski flower burst gown. Circa late 1960s. Modern size 4 to 6 SOLD

POINT D'ESPRIT GOLD DOTS BY JEAN LOUIS

We've always had a soft spot for Jean Louis at Decades. Several years ago, we had the honor of selling the Jean Louis collection of Nancy Sinatra, Sr. They were amazing! The man dressed Marlene Dietrich and Marilyn Monroe, so Jean Louis knew glamour better than anyone else in Hollywood.

We're showing this Jean Luois worn with a demure coordinating cover-up and solo as a very classy and striking cocktail dress. The option of the cover up is like a gift with purchase! You can wear it casually with jeans or with the ensemble for which it was created.

A midnight navy LBD is what we call this...with an addition of point d'esprit gold dots woven onto the chiffon. SOLD

Don Loper late 50s/early 60s midnight chiffon cocktail dress with point d'esprit style polka dots. Contemporary size 4
