THE LAST QUEEN OF PARIS

It was only natural that the International Best Dressed Woman in the world would start making clothes to dress other women. Jacqueline de Ribes was the muse of Valentino and Yves Saint Laurent. She was very elegant with a long neck and knew how to make an entrance. Because she was of aristocracy descent and not encouraged to have a job, her dream of having her own salon came true when she was well in her fifties. And thank god she did. She captured very beautifully the quintessence of Parisian elegance. Her clothes are glamourous and feminine. Romance is the theme in both these two very different dresses that we have for you.
The black cocktail dress with ruffles would be the perfect LBD on a woman with short hair and a cool attitude. De Ribes always wanted to dress the anti-sexy woman, someone who is astonishing without creating astonishment. But without wanting it, Jacqueline de Ribes created amazing pieces like this stunning pomegranate red gown, off the shoulder very similar to her own dress she wore in this iconic photo of hers. You'd be smart to trust her.

Jacque . . . Ohhhhh!

Our loyal blog readers know how much we love Jacqueline de Ribes. If you are new to the blog, or simply want a refresher course, click here. From the mind of what is arguably the most fashionable woman to grace this planet, we present a taffeta halter evening gown. The taffeta is an iridescent aqua color that is ruched at the waist and gathered down the back in flowing ruffles. Hidden under the ruffles at the top of the zipper is a taffeta rectangle that has been covered with aqua gems. The sparkling square gives the dress that little something extra. It is a detail that only the wearer will know, but that is what we love attention to detail.

Sapphire Seduction

Get wrapped up in a wave of ruched sapphire silk taffeta by Jacqueline de Ribes. Words cannot accurately describe how amazing this dress is in person. It is as though a giant wave starts at the thigh, tightens at the waist, crests at the bust and then crashes around the shoulders (how do you like that visual). The last thing we are going to say about this dress is . . . INAUGURATION! If you are going, or you know someone that is, come in immediately.

SHERBET WORTHY OF SCHUBERT

When many of you think of sherbet you may think of orange sherbet, but we like raspberry sherbet, too. Some of the classical music buffs might think Schubert not sherbet when we speak of sherbet, so we are going to appease both your desires of gluttony and symphony with this delicious Jacqueline de Ribes crepe chiffon empire waist gown that is perfect to wear to the symphony! How's that for a Franz Schubert tie-in. The pleated bodice has off-the-shoulder cap sleeves and a cascade ruffle going down the front of the dress from the empire, with a sexy high slit ready to expose a toned leg and a strappy sandal.

Empire waists are always flattering and the Viscomtess de Ribes not only designed flattering clothing for her clients, but she continues to be the epitome of elegance and a world class beauty and fashion icon.

Vive de Ribes

From the designer/comtess once voted the most fashionable woman in the world, Jacqueline de Ribes, we bring you an amazing summer gown. This bright coral evening gown is constructed of four major sections that are gathered at the waist with a lucite rectangle of the same color. The top of the gown is a halter construction with a deep V that meets a waistband at the hip. From there an above knee skirt is blanketed by a ankle length skirt with a front slit from the waist down. The straps, along with the small V give the back of the gown a tulip shape. This is an amazingly constructed gown from the mind of a true fashion icon and would be a pinnacle in the greatest of couture collections.

JACQUELINE DE RIBES DOES JEAN DESSES

This is one of our favorite recent arrivals. We have been posting a lot of Jacqueline de Ribes lately and we adore this strapless and very elaborately draped chiffon gown with a tri-color woven top. It has a very interesting system to snap the dress closed on the side which insures that the illusion of how you put on this amazing gown remains a mystery in the eye of the beholder. We love the swags of fabric that hang from the gown, too. This is such a red carpet winner!

Truly, this gown is an homage of Jean Desses' famous Goddess gowns of the 1950s. Which Goddes of the 21st Century will make this gown come alive once again?

Cloak Yourself in Midnight!

Earlier today we posted two Oscar-worthy gowns in black. Of course, we know that black can be a bit overwhelming for less formal events in the spring... might we suggest midnight blue instead? Below are two new arrivals at Decades: the first, by society designer Jacqueline de Ribes, wraps about the body in a delightfully tricky fashion while forming a sleek, sexy shape. (Also check out this Lanvin creation, which features a similar color story.) Beneath it is a fishtail gown by Thierry Mugler Couture fishtail gown with V-shaped hardware at the bust.
