THE SIXTIES ALWAYS SWING BACK OUR WAY

The sixties were back in a big way in 2014 as proof that fashion goes in circles. But as we have said before in this blog we at Decades are firm believers that the originals are the best investments. Such is the case with these two Courreges pieces form the 60's. The wool vest in navy with the gold buttons and peter pan collar can be worn with the a-line pleated skirt in red for a more retro look or it can be worn with flared or boot cut jeans for a more relaxed look. Both these pieces are in perfect condition and that is a testament that good fashion never gets old.

CHECKMATE - THEN AND NOW

We have been so focused on the Spring 14 shows that is hard to remember that Fall is upon us. One of the biggest trends this season is feminine/masculine and plaid. Plaid and big coats were seen from Celine to Stella McCartney and in our archives Courreges from decades ago.
This wool Courreges double breasted coat is in perfect condition and can be worn buttoned all the way or simply over the shoulders for that cool look. Both coats are great but we bet anything that the Courreges comes at one tenth of the price. Which would you chose?

DRESS ON A ROPE

As many of you are aware the House of Courreges was purchased by Jacques Bungert and Frédéric Torloting last year from founders Andre and Coqueline Courreges.  The new owners have re-launched the collection with some classic dresses, as well as,  eyewear in partnership with Alain Mikli.  It all looks very charming and super retro, but retro in a futuristic way.  I am curious where Bungert and Torloting will take the brand.  Will it remain in a time capsule or will a Creative Director come in and manipulate the codes into fresh designs?  It's in a bit of a time warp right now, but I find all the pieces still rather timeless.  Courreges often made the perfect easy summer dress and this cotton canvas dress with nautical rope halter is from the 1990s revamp of Courreges.  It's a dress for espadrilles and a summer in Aix-en-Provence.  However you don't need to holiday in France to look effortlessly chic.  This dress is for anyone this summer who wants to beat the heat in style; and I love the fresh neckline that manages to not look retro, don't you think?

MOD HIGH

We here at Decades are in a Courreges high today after receiving 5 beautiful dresses for all occasions. They are all a clear signature of Courreges silhouette and have been copied by all and have inspired many designers for the last 4 decades ...now you can own an original for all occasions. We will post separately each one so stay tuned!
In the 90's The house of Courreges hired Jean Charles de Castelbajac to design under direct supervision of Monsieur Courreges himself. A firm believer in the notion that "fashion that changes radically every two years is abnormal" Courreges continued to stay true to his 60's revolutionary silhouette.
This 100% textured cotton in a pale pink brush stroke print is the perfect dress for a picnic or a brunch date.

THE PERFECT DAY DRESS

We haven't posted much Courreges and we apologize. The mod designs of Andre Courreges are so wearable as evidenced by the cream 60s day dress below. Featuring raised seams that form a round neck with a gamine little V cut-out, the seams outline the entire dress including the fitted short sleeves, across the top of the torso and down each side, as well as, along the drop waist and each split of the skirt. This is a very architectural-looking dress that is a great 60s classic to add to your collection. Courreges is always getting copied, so why not own an original?

BACK TO THE FUTURE

Decades is pleased to present three very mod pieces that we are mad about and all designed by Andre Courreges. The first is an early 70s velvet jumpsuit with silver patches surrounding bold RiRi zippers. For those planning some amateur space exploration, may we suggest this ensemble? The second classic Courreges piece from the 1960s is a 3/4 length orange pleather jacket with the AC logo on the left side. Finally, we leave you with a marvelous woven crepe maxi evening gown trimmed in pleather. It has a touch of Givenchy Audrey Breakfast at Tiffany's-charm, but still with a "ready for takeoff" sensibility.

COURREGES IN THE 70S

We wish our readers could reach through their computers and see this unusual polished cotton in person. It's polished cotton that looks like silk shantung, but without the texture of shantung. Very distinctive. By now you know we are mad for brown...and this classic 70s Courreges dress shows hints of M. Courreges' original 60s shapes as it still is ever-so-slightly A-line. The unusual lattice pattern evokes the netting of a fisherman's catch framed buy the nice thick polished cotton shoulder and neck seams. Again, this is ideal for right now but because it's brown it can take you into fall.
Courreges Paris 70s brown cotton as shantung sleeveless dress, Marked Courreges A, equivalent of US size 4

CLASSIC COURREGES IN YELLOW

Every season we revisit various trends: disco, hippie, minimal, 80s luxe, and of course MOD! That's why we vintage, you never have to worry about trends as they are all, more or less, vintage-based. Here is a very dependable late 60s yellow Courreges Paris Hyperbole dress with the thick industrial zipper going down the dress, a matching belt with white snaps, and the classic "AC" logo embroidered onto the removable snap attached patch, above the left breast. It's one of those dresses that you will always be happy to own. Wear it with tights and boots, or metallic ballet flats, or a modern sexy shoe to make the dress more after-5. Just like a good piece of pop Art, this Courreges only becomes more desirable with age.
Courreges Paris Hyperbole wool/acrylic blend A-line dress. Marked size "B" approximately, modern size 6. c late 1960s. SOLD
