RED QUICHE

Everyone looks good in red.  Trust me.  I've seen everyone naked in Hollywood and no matter your skin tone, red just flatters.  If you have a narrow rib cage (and I know many of our readers do), this 50s Ceil Chapman red chiffon scoop neck dress will need more than that...it also needs a little waist.  Sorry, this is one of those dresses that I wish we had a size run in because as Ja'mie would say, "it's quiche."  Maybe someone will get this to wear to a Golden Globe party this weekend?  How would you style this?

TIPS FROM ME: GO BLACK GO WHITE

I have provided some useful vintage shopping tips in the Chicago Tribune which you can view here.  Not every tip has been shared and one thing I always suggest is buy black-and-white, because you never know when someone is going to resurrect a Truman Capote-esque black-and-white ball.  That being said, I have an outstanding Ceil Chapman strapless black-and-white gown to share with you that simply does everything right.  White lace enhanced with intricate black jet beading and ribbon details, the kick pleat of black chiffon is what the Golden Age of Hollywood was all about: sexy without being vulgar.  Marilyn Monroe famously wore Ceil Chapman and had this dress been designed with a more generous bosom in mind, I wouldn't have been surprised to see the legend in this evening dress.  Someone less busty, but super classy is the ideal future owner of this American 50s Couture chic dress.  Now, who's having the black-and-white ball?  Maybe on New Year's Eve?  Black-and-white never goes out of style.  Invest in fashion that will be with you for the long haul. Follow me on Instagram for a constant barrage of fashion seduction!

Violet, you're turning Violet, Violet!

Just yesterday a very good friend of Decades brought in this lovely Ceil Chapman dress. This fun little violet silk crepe dress has "Garden Party" written all over it. We all know spring is upon us (Oh God please let the winter come to an end!), and with spring comes garden parties, polo matches, and everything moves outdoors.

The lovely little frock below needs to be taken outside and shown a good time; she simply can't be cooped up any longer. It has been said that Ceil Chapman designed like an architect, every little detail perfectly executed. This dress stays true to the namesake with an amazing ruched, scoop neckline and cascade of pleated crepe down the front on the bust.

There is some slight discoloration under the arms and near the hemline, but it is only noticeable if one looks very close. If anyone is looking that closely at you, either the evening is going very well, or you need to quickly and quietly move away from the individual.

CEIL THE DEAL

Scattered showers are expected in Los Angeles today, but we are enjoying a very gentle winter. It's LA in January and a lot of people are wearing shorts and not just to the gym! We are firm believers in breaking the rules when it comes to fashion and say go "season -ess". Even in the arctic tundra, should an invitation arrive for cocktails in January, wear this wiggle-licious Ceil Chapman confidentially (but with proper outerwear) because flowers aren't just for spring and the all-too underrated Ceil Chapman makes men mad when viewing a woman in a dress of her design.

A cream silk spaghetti strap dress with vibrant blue flocked flowers in a defined waist silhouette with gathered bust and slim hips, this dress has a timeless American glamor that is forever associated with an icon like Marilyn Monroe, who famous favored Ceil Chapman.

MAD MEN

Men are MAD for vintage Ceil Chapman for many reasons. Ms. Chapman knew how to make a dress to accentuate the positive and exaggerate a ladies' curves. That is the secret of Ceil Chapman: for the curve challenged, she give you a shapely figure; for the curvaceous, she shows off an ample bosom and highlights your hips, while giving you a slim waist. In the same manner as Roland Mouret does today, Ceil Chapman celebrated a distinctively feminine physique, thus making her a favorite of Marilyn Monroe in the 1950s. At Decades, we are also mad for Ceil Chapman and always look for her dresses since they delight our clients. This dress features a draped silk jersey top that we suggest should be worn at the tip of your shoulders. The skirt is layered with crinoline enhanced lace for a flamenco-vibe that is not costume-y. This dress is season less and attire-less. When we say attire-less, we mean it can be worn in a multitude of venues and be appropriate for cocktail to black tie. All one needs are some red lips, a bold clutch, a bit of jewelry, and some snazzy pumps to drive the men mad in this dress.

Ceil Chapman Silk Dress

This creme-colored silk Ceil Chapman dress evokes the carefree days of a childhood summer! (Yes, we're reaching.) It is a rather fetching dress, though, isn't it? We think the scoop neck and cap sleeves really give this dress a youthful vibe. And the bugle-bead pattern is exquisite--definitely a great piece for any style maven's wardrobe.
