Weave

My interest in textiles has spun a little out of control. I am now have been feverishly weaving my free time.

I found an old hobby loom while I was at home last month. It seems to suit me fine for now while I am learning. I also got cute new scissors from Mylan (Thank you!)

Some pattern and color testing

So I guess I will have plenty of coaster around my flat soon. It is a start.

Warmth

Though the winter has not been particularly cold up until this point for swiss standards, I find that there are a few things that make all the difference for warmth. Tea and feet.

I got this super tea robot for Christmas which you could also say is um heart warming.

For my feet I have sewn some slippers and I have put together a amateur tutorial for you.
and now mine. I added some embroidered beetles.

Standing on chairs

A few things have come together lately. The biggest being that my kind neighbor who was moving gave me a massive bag of fabric. I usually only have scraps leftover from various projects. So finally I have human sized pieces. The result is evenings creating a new wardrobe for myself.

Welcome 2013
This a dark brown silk dress I made for new years. I added a line of gold beads down the middle for some festive shine.

Robust
My favorite skirt I have made so far. It is a heavier grey knit so it practical to wear... everyday.

Fancy Pants
I thought I was never really one for flowered patterns but I never tried and somehow it has its charm. High waisted and white patterned jeans, makes me feel like a 90's babysitter.

Holiday

I made this dress with the intention to wear for a holiday party. But guess what, I had no party to go to. The two fabrics are really a interesting texture that the photo does not show.

Kick pleat

I made this skirt with my favorite fabric of the bunch a heathered lavender wool. The kick pleat is really fun, I feel I can only wear it with the accompaniment of lipstick.

Dance Pants
Rust colored silk with a timid palazzo pant. I am working up to being brave enough to make a pair with the full yardage.

End

The last skirt I made recently still up to debate about the color (too much like doctor scrubs) and general fit. There is still more to be done.

Also thank to my aunt for letting be borrow her overlocker. Which is so fun to drive.

Pompom Envy

I have put together a short craft session for you.

I love winter for its knitted hats. However, I am never really fully committed to a pompom but I like the option. I have crafted a way to  easily attach one with no commitment.

This is my preferred method of pompom making. Two cardboard circles, but I add a piece of fabric in between to sew through for extra volume and sturdiness. At the end just loosely sew on a button. You need enough space to attach it to your hat.
Then just button it to any knit. I attached mine to the top of my grey hat I knitted last winter. You can easily just put it on the side, front, middle, multiple ones. Switch hats, switch pompoms.

Below is a commissioned Holiday Card. Best Wishes through the holidays!

Terrra Obscura

TERRA OBSCURA
Exhibition & Untimely Event

...June 18, 2011
7pm - Midnight

$5 at the door

112 N. Oxford. Los Angeles. 90004

This show is going to be amazing filled with really talented people and it is only up tonight! It was all organized by an art collective called the Upper 600s. Truly wonderful and dedicated people.
Here is my piece:

I put together this Luzern swan it is called "Weather or not".  It has a barometer on his back so you can tell if it going to rain. I feel birds know these things a lot better than I do. I never seem to bring an umbrella on the right days. I knit him a little sweater neck to keep him warm and had a little too much fun with the decorative stitching (at least I am not using sequins anymore).

At home Atelier

I spend most of my time working at home... I started a project this weekend showing how I work at home. I am really excited about it.

On other news, the Wet Hot American Summer show looks like it went really well. I read an article about it in the  Huffingtonpost. There is some nice picture of all the pieces in the article, including mine. All the pieces are for sale at nineteeneightyeight.com.

Turbans Triangles Tied Together?

It has been raining lately. It is hard to keep motivated. But we keep moving forward

A little snipet from a project to come in the summer. I am getting into stitching again. It taking over my sequin phase.

A comic I drew about drinking on weekdays...

Oh and I have been really into these knit turbans that have been showing up everywhere. So I knitted myself one. You have to keep up. I made my own version but here is a link to Pickle's pattern....
