MrBaldrick:

the The Versus The World

Celebrated video maker Tim Pope filmed this concert video,
which captures highlights from The The's three night residency
at London's Royal Albert Hall during their 'Versus the World' tour.

The band includes ex-Smiths' guitarist Johnny Marr.

The band embarked on a lengthy world tour in 1989–90 called
The The Versus The World.
The live film of the same name, directed by Tim Pope, was filmed during
the three nights The The performed at London's Royal Albert Hall at the
end of the tour. Vocalist Melanie Redmond, who had just completed a world
tour with Duran Duran, joined the tour during the European leg as a
session musician.

I've been searching for a decent copy of this for a long time.
One of the best bands, and an amazing concert.

I've just bought the VHS and ran it through Neat noise reduction to get
the best possible quality. I'd love to get my hands on a LaserDisc version
but this will have to do for now.

I hope you enjoy this. The The were/are fucking amazing!

The The - Festival Paredes de Coura, Paredes de Coura, Portugal - 13.08.2000 (Flac)

HUGE Thanks to ziggy for sending me this recording to share here, maybe someone has a true lossless version and wants to share it?

Original Info File:

The The in Portugal for the second time and with a great album and a great concert but i believe people were off of them. It was a pitty because it was really great.
I got a recording of the show on cd but can't remember by whom but i know that this did not come from the guy who recorded it. I traded it with somebody else. The recording is quite good but my cd was recorded from mp3 files and that is the reason i never traded this one before. But i believe it is time for this historic recording find its way into other The The fans and for that here it is for your own pleasure.

The The - St. Georges Hall, Bradford, UK - 23.09.1989 (Flac)

Thanks to the original uploader.

Original Info File:

Excellent sounding FM broadcast of The The's show at St. Georges Hall, Bradford.  I've edited out DJ comments at the very start and end, but they're there if you want them - Track 00 segues with Track 01, and there are two versions of Track 06, one unedited with the DJ, the other with the DJ cut and the applause faded out (unnoticeable, as the was plenty of applause before the DJ spoke).  I'm told the previous version on Dime had a couple of dropouts and some static blasts, but this one is clean all the way through.

Tracks:

1. Sweet Bird of Truth <5:24>
2. Heartland <4:32>
3. The beat(en) Generation <3:47>
4. Beyond Love <6:26>
5. The Violence of Truth <4:44>
6. Infected <4:56>

Total time 29:53

Unedited version extra tracks -
0. DJ intro <0:02>
6. Infected <5:01>

Lineage:
FM broadcast > unknown > CDR trade > EAC > wav > cool edit pro (tr 1,6) > wav > flac

Convert to mp3 for personal use only, if you must... But please don't post mp3s of this on other sites like guitars101...

The The - Marquis Club, London, UK - 10.10.1982 (Flac)

Good Audience recording + 2 tracks radio source. Thanks to sam1 for sending me this recording to share here, and to the original uploader.

Original Info File:

Unknown line up, see gigography at
http://www.thethe.com/sections/library/gigography/gigography.html

Received this on cassette trade thru the mail before high speed internet was
everywhere. Lineage:
Cassette Audience recording -> 2nd (or later) generation cassette copy (from
Dave H) -> cassette to CDWAV by friend before I had computer, unknown cassette
player -> CDR -> EAC -> FLAC 8 using Traders Lil Helper

Original cassette had "This Is The Day" and "I've Been Waiting" after track 04.
Since they sound like other source (probably radio), old friend who transferred
cassette put the two tracks at the end. Also a few "fades" were done at begin
of track 08 and between 13-14.

I would re-transfer from cassette if I had a cassette player anymore... Doubt I
could get better quality transfer though. It is listenable and audience noise
is clear stereo, but sounds like recorded on boom box or similar in the back of
venue with "automatic record levels." The Audience noise is clear and loud
during breaks, but cannot hear once the music volume increases.

01 Another Boy Drowning
02 Perfect
03 The Nature of Virtue
04 Instrumental
05 The Twilight Hour
06 Controversial Subject
07 Song without an Ending
08 Hit Me Where It Really Hurts
09 Uncertain Smile
10 Red Cinders in the Sand
11 Icing up
12 Time Again for the Golden Sunset
13 Delirious

The cassette also includes what sound like radio recordings of live tracks,
probably BBC stuff, so might help with dates???
