RE-UPLOAD: Swans - Gebaeude 9, Koeln, Germany - 10.11.2016 (Flac)

As requested. Very good sound. Thanks to SpaceBandit for posting on Dime:

Original Info File:
---
from DIMENEW collection # 269
---

Rec. Info:
DPA 4061 -> Roland D-26 (@ WAV 16/44) -> SD -> HD -> WeTransfer -> my HD -> Audacity (edit/remaster) -> WAV 16/44 -> TLH8 -> FLAC -> DIME -> YOUR EARS AND MIND...
Recorded by dear DIMENEW from 3-4 meters center stage. Exceptional fine recording, a bit bass heavy (but didn't expect this from a Swans concert?) but everything else is
just perfectly good. Sold out crowd. Sorry, no pics or setlist...

---
Could this really been their farewell tour as announced? If so, the Swans pulled all the stops for a majestic performance in Koeln. I've been told that on the other side of
the road, at big Lanxess Arena, The Cure played...that seems like pop music compared to this long strange trip...So, enjoy! SB.

Thanks to Chris Lawrence's superb SY ConChron for the following info:
Here's a quote from the guy who taped this show (courtesy of Jim):

"Anyways, the Sonic Youth/Swans thang: What he's talking about is the tape I made of both bands at a cable TV studio. They were on tour together for the 1st 12" ep's, with a gig that night in Ann Arbor. They came by the studio in the afternoon (I knew one of the camera guys) to record short sets (not together!). They sound like instumentals because there was no p.a., but there were monitors on the stage, so vocals are there - buried. I just sat in the middle of the studio with a boom box...The studio was Group W Cable in Dearborn for the record. They also shot sets by DOA and MDK, but I heard from the camera guy that all tapes were destroyed/erased. There are tapes around from the next year of Misfits, Negative Approach, and some other local punk on a show they did "Why Be Something You're Not."

RE-UPLOAD:Swans - Schlachthof, Wiesbaden, Germany - 12.11.2016 (Flac)

Excellent sound, thanks to the tapers and to Stacheleber for the matrix and sharing on Dime.

Original Info File:

This is a matrix made of 2 different recordings, one of them has been upped to dime, the other recording is uncirculated and the taper wants to stay anonymous.

Rec. info of the single versions:

Version 1
Taped and transferred by greener

Lineage: Soundman OKM IIR Mic.>Edirol R-09>SanDisk 4 GB SD Card>WAV master(24 bit,48 kHz)>Voxengo r8Brain 1.9(quality setting: very high)>WAV (16 bit,44,1 kHz)>CDWave(tracksplits)>Trader's Little Helper>FLAC (level 6)

Comment from greener:
Taping Position: in line with elevated left stack

Version 2
recorded by anonymous
Lineage: Zoom H2 + Sony ECM 719 Mike -> Recorder to PC -> wav-file 44,1/16

Processing of matrix:
both files -> Samplitude 11 Silver -> arrangement of matrix -> edit/remaster -> transfer to flac 44,1/16 -> dime
I had to adjust the speed between the versions minimally (in general). However towards the end of track 4 htere are some speeed issues with recording 2 which I tried to eliminate (I had to make 3 cuts in this recording).
Some minor EQ was made (bass + treble lifted) and sound level adjusted.

Both recordings match perfectly for a matrix because recording 1 is more bass pronounced whereas recording 2 has more treble.
The sound of the matrix is now nearly excellent and I would say close to a sbd. The show is great anyway. I was planning to go to the concert but couldn't. I regret this now a lot but at least we have this phantastic recording here.

Many thanks go to the tapers for recording and uploading (greener).

I made some cover art which is attached here. I didn't adjust the tracks to this because it is not possible to burn the concert on 2 discs without cutting a song. It is possible to burn it on 3 discs without cutting. So I leave this up to you.
Also attached is a number of nice photos of the show + a tour flyer I found in the web.

Rec. Info:

DIME -> YOUR EARS AND MIND... Strange tape, but excellent sound. Hope this isn't around, yet. More information below...

---
Ok, here's a strange tape. The infos on the tapeinsert, noted this as "Gothenburg, 1987-08-21", but it is not. First I thought, wow, an FM excerpt from that show. But my hopes
were destroyed when I noticed some german language chatters at the end of Track #03, where Michael Gira tried to explain the crowd, that this is no PUNKROCK concert! Bummer!
I'm also not really good on swedish language to understand the radio announcer's comments, but at least I think these songs are pulled from shows at Frankfurt, Germany and
the EUROCK FESTIVAL in Alsdorf/near Aachen, Germany. Back in the daze of tapes (I mean cassettes), this would've made a fine companion to each full recorded Swans show. Today,
I'll give you this as a companion to the other fine audience recorded shows for your internal/external harddrive. Anyway, it's not really satisfying to me posting a truncated/mixed
set of songs here, but the sound is too good to be shelved away forever. Hope you understand, and hope you enjoy this rather short posting. SB.

RE-UPLOAD: Swans - Bonnaroo Festival, Tennessee, USA - 15.06.2013 (Flac)

Taken from the webstream, so it's lossy sourced. Very Good sound. Thanksto DrG for capturing and sharing it here.

NOTES:

~ recorded by DrG from *lossy* digital USTREAM live broadcast ~
~ entitled by DrG as "Stop Texting In Yr Skin Tight Britches!" ~

Lineage: Buffered live Bonnaroo video webcast (the stream staggered to a halt during She Loves Us, but I was able to restart it from the beginning of the whole gig) > Audio capture via Audacity > Cut to separate tracks with WaveLab Lite and boosted 5dB > FLAC level 8

Also; first track trimmed with fade-in added to remove copyright song playing for the band's set-up and *loud* quick start. As trimmed, this will fit on a single CD. There is some *computer* background noise and stream-related click or two, but the loudness of the Swans overcomes.

In the forgotten and ancient honor of actually entitling bootlegs, I'd like to give this recording a name. In the second half of Oxygen, Gira recites; "Stop texting! Stop texting!"

So I rather flippantly thought either "Stop Texting In Yr Skin Tight Britches", or "Bonnaroo In Skin Tight Britches"... the former has more punch IMO. It is also, from what I read, Swans first Bonnaroo Festival gig. The folder pic is from Bonnaroo and I found it with Google... credit is where credit is due.

DO NOT SHARE ON DIME OR OTHER SITES LIKE IT!!!!
It was considered a *lossy* recording by Dime due to the source, and banned within minutes of uploading. However, I did what I could to capture this broadcast simply to enjoy it, as I hope you will.

Feel good now.

Total running time: 16:21

NOTES:

It's been a busy couple of weeks, filled with stark musical contrasts: Kate
Bush twice in London, White Hills upstairs at the Paradiso, Lady Gaga in the
cavernous Ziggo Dome, and now Swans in my regular haunt, the Paradiso's main
room.

I'm feeling pretty exhausted at this point in the week, and the idea of being
pounded for a couple of hours by Swans really isn't how I want to spend the
evening, but it's tonight or never (or at least next time), so I conscript my
legs into one final service and bike through the Vondelpark to the site of
tonight's barrage of noise.

Pharmakon is up first. The name might sound like that of a pharmaceutical
giant, but it belongs to New York native, Margaret Chardiet.

I was planning to catch her earlier in the year at OCCII before she pulled
out, so I was pleased to learn she would be Swans' support in the autumn.

But what's this? A mere sixteen minutes after starting, she's already heading
back to the dressing-room. Well, that was short and sweet, one of the briefest
support sets I've ever seen. At least it was a tasty hors d'oeuvre.

Before long, it's time for Swans. Michael Gira walks out onto the stage,
gestures to the front-of-house sound man to kill the PA music, and then
disappears again behind the rear curtain.

A gentle rumble rises out of the nothingness and Swans' opening number starts
to germinate. Very gradually, one by one, Gira's band of merry men appear on
stage and add their own particular layer to the snowballing sound.

This is a band with very little time for the conventions of the live music
circuit. A punchy, familiar little opening number to get the crowd fully in
the mood? No, how about a brand new, unreleased 37 minute juggernaut that
pulverises everything in its path? Yeah, now you're talking.

My tired body has new life breathed into it by this assault on my senses. Now
I remember: you don't so much go to Swans as undergo Swans.

The second number is 'A Little God In My Hands' from the band's most recent
album, 'To Be Kind', released back in May.

The better part of an hour has elapsed before Swans get to the end of the
second song. Even 'song' seems a grossly term for describing the nuggets of
noise that this band conjure forth.

And so we continue for another hour or so. Swans' most recent album might be
only a few months old, but already the band have moved on and half of
tonight's set consists of new and unreleased material. My advice to you: If
you want to hear the new record, go to the previous tour.

One amusing moment (to me, at least) comes when Gira asks the lighting man to
turn the spotlight down at the front of the stage, because it's blinding the
audience. How considerate of him. He understands that it's difficult to
appreciate being deafened whilst one is also being blinded.

After a little over two hours, Swans relent. The full body massage using sound
waves comes to an end. The band take a bow while Gira introduces them. When
it's his turn, he proclaims himself to be Ernest Hemingway.

It's not something I'd want to do every night, and I'm probably sated for
another two years now, but Swans live is always a memorably visceral
experience and, in spite of my fatigue, the time passed remarkably quickly.

I'm not sure that their performance this evening surpassed the sublime gig
given by the band in Haarlem's Patronaat a couple of years ago, but it doesn't
matter. Swans certainly didn't disappoint.

The recording is excellent. Put your headphones on, turn the volume up and
fill your head with sound.

Swans - Amsterdam, Paradiso, The Netherlands - 13.03.1997 (Flac)

Swans are touring again this year, go see them live. Thanks to the original uploader.

Original Info File:

From the VPRO Radio broadcast (my tape is directly from the radio).

This torrent only contains two songs. All other tracks from the show have been released on "Swans are Dead" (so I found out while comparing all songs
from the broadcast with the album just to be sure not to violate the Dime policy).

1 The Man With the Silver Tongue
2 Blood on Yr Hands
3 DJ outro

The full Amsterdam setlist was:

1 Feel Happiness
2 Low Life Form
3 Not Alone
4 The Man With the Silver Tongue
5 Blood on Yr Hands
6 Hypogirl
7 I Crawled
8 I Am the Sun
9 Blood Promise

"Swans Are Dead" is the Swans 1998 live double album on vinyl and was recorded in 1995 and 1997 on the band's final tours.

Disc one (Black) was reportedly recorded in Amsterdam, New York City, Trondheim, Prague, Brussels and Atlanta on the band's final tour in 1997.
This is obviously not true, all songs except "Blood on yr hands", which is a really different version, come from the Amsterdam show.

Disc one (Black)
"Feel Happiness" 16:57         [Amsterdam, March 13, 1997]
"Low Life Form" 4:54         [Amsterdam, March 13, 1997]
"Not Alone" 13:12         [Amsterdam, March 13, 1997]
"Blood on Yr Hands" 2:59     [unknown]
"Hypogirl" 3:22         [Amsterdam, March 13, 1997]
"I Crawled" 10:05         [Amsterdam, March 13, 1997]
"I Am the Sun" 5:26         [Amsterdam, March 13, 1997]
"Blood Promise" 15:23         [Amsterdam, March 13, 1997]

Several sites, including Wikipedia only list the first three as being from Amsterdam. I guess nobody ever checked the last four tracks when #4 seemed to be different.

Now regarding the band: the Radio DJ mentions the following band members :

Michael Gira, Jarboe, Larry Mullins, Joe Goldring, Clinton Steele, Yudi

Note that this information also deviates from the information on "Swans is Dead".

Swans - Paramount Theatre, Ashbury, NJ, USA - 01.10.2011 (Flac)

Lineage - NPR live recording. Converted to FLAC with Trader's Little Helper.

I believe this was the final date on Swan's tour behind the My Father Will Guide Me Up To A Rope In The Sky tour which started back in September 2010.

You can see by the track lengths that these "pieces" are extended sonic work-outs and nearly half of the set is dominated by new material.

Swans have just released a new live album, We Rose From Your Bed With The Sun In Our Heads (order from www.younggodrecords.com), which features (in my opinion) better versions of these songs.

Enjoy!

1.No Words/No Thoughts (24.12)
2.Jim (8.04)
3.The Apostate (25.24)
4.The Seer (26.22)
5.I Crawled (19.34)
