RE-UPLOAD: Simple Minds - Wembley Stadium, London, UK - 11.06.1988 (Flac)

Excellent FM broadcast with Johnny Marr, Peter Gabriel and Steve Van Zandt as guests in some musics.

frankvink posted this FM recording on dime with 3 tracks removed. He sent me these three tracks tobe able to post the complete recording here, with an adicional 28 minutes!

A personal HUGE Thank You to him for allowing me to post it here in a complete form.

Lineage: FM (master) > Audacity (wav, normalize, track splitting) > xACT (flac) > you

I'm digitizing my tape collection, mostly recorded from Dutch radio in the 80s and early 90s.

Simple Minds - Hammersmith Odeon, London, England - 15.05.1984 (Flac)

Someone requested this one, thanks to Harmonizer for sharing it o Dime.

Soundboard Remastered
5 Stars.

Back to my collection of bootlegs>WAV>FLAC8>You

01 - East at easter
02 - Up on the catwalk
03 - Book of brilliant things
04 - Glittering prize
05 - The american
06 - King is white and in the crowd
07 - Speed your love to me/"C" moon cry like a baby
08 - Someone somewhere (In summertime)
09 - Promised you a miracle
10 - Big sleep
11 - Waterfront
12 - New gold dream (81-82-83-84)/Take me to the river/Light my fire

This concert is from the golden era!
It appears partially on the ultra limited bootleg (150 copies) called "Presence of Mind".
Here is the comments of the vinyl from the huge "Dream Giver" site:

"Hello, how are you? This is the Sparkle In The Rain tour. This is the capital city.Open up".
Charlie's already there with a unique new melody, which is captured with clarity.
"Someday soon you'll make me happy, cause all across the land it's East At Easter" In fact,
with different melodies from Mick and new drumming from Mel, the song only keeps its lyric from it's album version.Great start.
"On drums, the best young drummer in the world, Mel Gaynor" and with that introduction, the band shoot into Up On The Catwalk.
Again, the arrangement is now familiar from the other bootlegs (not much different to the live version on Alive And Kicking)

"Let's open up and grow up! This is called The Book Of Brilliant Things.
This recording is clearer than Selfluminous and you can really hear Mick in the mix.
The slow quiet instrumental can also be fully appreciated for the first time.

A great version of Glittering Prize followed,
and then Jim announced "If we can go back a couple of years to a record called Sister Feelings Call - Derek!
and the band break into the Sparkle version of The American.
With all the changes, the new intro and verse, Jim's extra vocalising and the clarity of this bootleg,
this makes this performance the definitive version for this tour.

With Jim's usual intro talk, the drum samples of King Is White And In The Crowd start.
Charlie's new improvisation is there, and Mick's subtle playing and melodies can now be heard clearly.
There's a break in the recording and it resumes with Jim's announcement of Speed Your Love To Me.
"Where are we going" asked Jim. "Higher" reply the audience as the instrumental pause in the middle of the song starts,
Charlie starts to improvise, and Jim breaks into the C Moon Cry Like A Baby bridge.
Again, this is the definitive version of this coupling." You go to my head!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A slight distortion of Jim's voice is present at times, plus some extra hiss, but this is a good, clear bootleg.
It sounds like a soundboard recording or even an FM broadcast. Recommended.

SO NOW HERE IS THE FULL SOUNDBOARD!!!!

Normalization acted and others little additional improvements.
This version is really a 5 stars concert.

Enjoy.
Harmonizer.

I have taken a break from the cassette tapes to focus on my VHS tapes. Most (if not all) of these tapes have been recorded on various hifi stereo video recorders, some in single play, some in long play mode. I've used my most recent video recorder (Sony SLV-SE600) for playback and a stand-alone DVD-recorder (Sony RDR-HX780) to create DVDs. They have no menus and no chapters. If anyone feels compelled to re-author any of them - be my guest.

Simple Minds - Irvington, New Jersey, USA - 27.05.1984 & Festival Grounds, Werchter, Belgium - 08.07.1984 (Flac)

AKA "Under The Crystal Lights"

A recent bootleg from SM, but probably the best sounding one ever. A pity that the setlist of both concerts is identical. Thanks to HARMONIZER09/APOPTYGMA for sharing this bootleg on DIME.

Original Info File:

Format: Double CD
Release Information: Far East Recordings SM84 1/2
Source: Soundboard
5 STARS!!!

Silver bootlegs produced in 2009 and remastered by Noddy C > WAV through NERO > FLAC8 through TRADER LITTLE HELPER > 2U

The band:
Jim Kerr: vocals
Charlie Burchill: guitar
Derek Forbes: bass
Mel Gaynor: drums
Michael MacNeil: keyboards

While Simple Minds are still on the roads in 2009 and 2010 with "Graffiti Soul", while Jim Kerr will propose in May 2010 his 1st solo album "A.K.A. lost boy", it's time to remember the golden era...
In three albums (New gold dream-81-82-83-84-, Sparkle in the rain, Once upon a time), the band touched the sky and raised the sun with ecstatic performances during the different tours.
in 1984, for the "Sparkle in the rain tour", the band proposed apocalyptic versions of songs from the two previous albums, performances still in mind of all the SM fans.
This tour was amazing and especially Soundboard's recordings from these two dates present on this double silver CD are the finest candy for all of us!
Don't dream anymore:
These gigs have been already uploaded in remastered versions through DIME with more complete versions and/or remastering tools.
I personally uploaded the full gig on Dime in 2009-11-28 for the Irvington Show and the show from the Festival Grounds at Werchter was uploaded a couple of months later.
Nevertheless, today, this liberated double bootleg for the community of SM fans with full artwork in HD is a gift I know that will be appreciated.
Not everyday appears one jewel in silver CDS as this one!

That's all folks!

ALL THE BEST!

HARMONIZER09/APOPTYGMA.

Taped in stalls centre of hall 20 feet from stage,15 feet in front of soundboard. A whistler mid way through the second half, but nothing too drastic. I noticed two open air microphones at the mixing desk. Maybe we might see a version of this show released. Asked the soundman for a set list, who gestured it was on HD on his desk (god i feel old) Lord knows how my mics didn't fly off when The American kicked in. A great show.

Simple Minds - Peel Session - 15.02.1982 (Flac) + 2 Bonus Tracks

When I posted the radio sessions from SM, someone asked if I could upload them in FLAC. Here's the one I have in Flac. Fulfilling in the best way I can the request, plus,

This session is listed in Ken Garner's book 'The Peel Sessions' (from 2007) and it states that the 2nd Peel Session Simple Minds recorded was missing from 'In Session' due to either missing recording or missing sessionsheet.

It is listed as being recorded 15th February, 1982 - broadcast date 1st March, 1982

01 - Sons and fascination
02 - Promised you a miracle
03 - Love song
04 - King is white and in the crowd (Fades out)

Bonus:

1980-10-06, High Summer Extra, Scottish TV, Scotland

05 - Thirty frames a second
06 - I travel

Both recordings 5 Stars once slightly remastered.
