Members of Yellow Magic Orhestra (YMO)

YMO joined the band near the end of the set on various songs.

earlier seeder's comment:
This is one of the last shows Japan ever played! Members of Yellow Magic
Orchestra (YMO) join the band near the end of the set on various songs. The
recording was originally captured from its broadcast on Ryuichi Sakamoto's
"Sound Street" radio. As with nearly all Sylvian related boots before 2001,
lineage is unknown. The tracks on tape are superior but the tape was missing
the three tracks that had to be added in from vinyl. Taking Islands in Africa
seems to have been a little warped on the LP it was taken from, the other two
tracks blend in surprisingly well.

I used noise reduction and FFT EQ filters optimized for both sources, and spent
a LOT of time trying to get a good balance between cleaning up the sound and
leaving original frequencies and integrity intact. I basically tryed to make up
for the alterations caused by a tape transfer, then match the vinyl tracks to
the sound that came out of that. EQ is still a *little* rough because I decided
to err on the side of caution (you can always tweak on your own). In the end I'm
very pleased with the results, and am glad I used a light touch, hiss is
noticable on some of the softer tracks but isn't distracting like it was before.
This show was mixed by John Punter, so I didn't want to destroy his work.

Japan - Budokan, Tokyo, Japan - 06.03.1979 (Flac)

AKA Big In Japan

Thanks to the original uploader.

Recording of a Japanese radio program recorded 6/3/79 at the Budokan in Tokyo. The sound quality is good, if a little crackly at times. This is interesting as it includes the ballad intro to Suburban Berlin (a short song in itself), a very early version of European Son plus some curious interview material.

Tracklist:

Don't Rain On My Parade
Obscure Alternatives
Love Is Infectious
Deviation
European Son
Suburban Love
Ballad ~ Suburban Berlin
Adolescent Sex
The Unconventional
Automatic Gun

note by NELLY1275GT:
Description courtesy of www.nightporter.co.uk
"The source of this recording is not revealed on the CD sleeve, but it was an FM broadcast. The tracks have been re-mastered
for this release but unfortunately, where the LP is stereo, the CD is not. Overall this is quite good quality, but not up to the standard of Polaroid.
During European Son, David starts to sing the wrong lyrics but corrects himself halfway through. Burning Bridges and My New Career
have been edited from the tape so that the concert fits onto one CD.
I was told that the Kyoto 1981 bootleg is available in a red sleeve in a good quality, Japanese pressing."

A very good FM broadcast recording whihc I Haven't seen here before.
It's only 1 of 2 FM broadcast recordings of Japan from 1982 that I have found.

Personal aside:
I was lucky enough to see Japan live in 1979 at Ryerson College's theatre in downtonwn Toronto...

It was an awesome set by Japan that was way to short as there were two opening acts: "TRB" ?? and "F.I.S.T." of whom I've nerver heard of since.

It went all dark, just some stage whispers, then a single red spotlight appears on Mike Karn who starts vamping on the bass while moving like a robot to the music. Then Sylvain a
Too bad I was unable to record this for posterity.
