Depeche Mode - Paradiso, Amsterdam, The Netherlands - 06.12.1983 (Flac)

Beyond excellent FM broadcast of  DM at the Paradiso, probably not the complete set but the complete broadcast, assembled with two sources. Includes tracks from the first 3 albuns of DM, that  quickly disapeared from the setlist, still during the 80's. HUGE Thanks to the original uploader on TTD.

Original Info File:

Construction Time Again tour

Complete FM broadcast
Lineage: Source 1 sped up by 2.0% using Audacity 2.0.5 -> WAV -> in Adobe Audition CC: automatic phase correction (most accurate settings), normalized to -1.0dB and any DC bias removed, left channel amplified by +1.5dB of source 2 between "Photographic" and "Told You So", manual click removal of a few clicks at source transitions -> FLAC level 8 using foobar2000 v1.2.9 and FLAC 1.3.0 64-bit, tracked using cuesheet
auCDtectTaskManager log included

An excellent FM broadcast. I used the following sources to complete this recording:

Source 1: dimenew's stellar sounding master tape of the original broadcast (Sony CHF60 master cassette -> Yamaha KX-493 tape deck -> Creative SoundBlaster AWE32 -> Wavelab 4.0), originally seeded on DIME around 2008
- provided the core recording
Source 2: Dutch broadcast of 7 tracks on April 21, 2005 recorded by Jerommeke (FM -> Sony MD313 -> Creative SoundBlaster Live!), reseeded on DIME by me - provided "Now, This Is Fun" and about 12 seconds at the end of "Photographic" through the beginning of "Told You So" since there was a fade on source 1 between these with missing music

Many thanks to dimenew for sharing his excellent FM master tape source, _Riven_ for sending me links to the recording, Jerommeke for recording the more recent rebroadcast, and Vince for helping ensure quality.

Reworked and shared by ligushka on DIME December 6, 2013.

Track list:

01. [5:55] Everything Counts
02. [3:41] Now, This Is Fun

Depeche Mode
1981-08-26
Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, England, UK
1981 Tour

Complete FM broadcast recording, incomplete concert recording
Lineage: Capital Radio FM broadcast spanning August 25-30, 1981 -> unknown FM tuner -> Toshiba portable stereo radio / cassette recorder (unknown model) -> Memorex 90-minute normal bias cassette (master) -> Nakamichi MR-1 professional discrete head cassette deck (pitch and playback azimuth adjusted to match these tapes) -> Mogami 2534 XLR to TRS cables -> Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd gen USB audio interface -> WAV (32/88.2) -> in Audacity: normalized to -0.1dB and any DC offset removed, track splits -> WAV (32/88.2) -> downsampled to FLAC level 8 (16/44) using foobar2000 v1.5.5, FLAC 1.3.3 64-bit, and foobar2000's Resampler (SoX) component v0.8.3 (best quality), dithering enabled
Taper: John Gates ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kk706smM4aU )
Generation: master
Transfer: DMLiveWiki ( https://dmlive.wiki )
Cassette photos and auCDTectTaskManager log included

Notes: A very good quality FM broadcast recording of three tracks. Bass can be a little boomy and overpowering, and the high frequencies extend out to about 13khz, but as this was recorded on a portable radio, this is not unexpected.

2020 revision for the concert's 39th anniversary: transfer once more on a superior deck, yielding better sound quality and correct speed.

The original copy of this recording was a MiniDisc copy of this cassette that sounded considerably worse than this transfer from the original master cassette. This audio is significantly clearer overall, with the second and third tracks no longer having an unusual "pumping" effect nearly as audible as with the old transfer, and there are no fades or cuts that do not appear on the original tape. A million thanks to the original taper John for taking the time and effort to locate his master tape and ship it to me! The resulting upgrade in sound quality speaks for itself.

This FM broadcast provides another soundboard-quality source for the tracks "The Price Of Love" and "Dreaming Of Me". The only other current source for "The Price Of Love" in such quality is the soundboard recording from 1981-06-27 Crocs, Rayleigh, Essex, England, UK ( https://dmlive.wiki/wiki/1981-06-27_Crocs,_Rayleigh,_Essex,_England,_UK/Source_2 ). "Boys Say Go!" has several soundboard and FM sources available (see https://dmlive.wiki/wiki/Boys_Say_Go!#1981_Tour ). "Dreaming Of Me" has a somewhat different arrangement and sound, more closely resembling the single version compared to the version played at Crocs.

Note that this concert was reported by a local newspaper's review to have been video taped. DM Live has contacted the Institute of Contemporary Arts to inquire whether the supposed video recording or any sort of audio recording exists in their archives, but the response was that the material no longer exists. Read the newspaper review and ICA's response here: https://dmlive.wiki/wiki/1981-08-26_Institute_of_Contemporary_Arts,_London,_England,_UK

This source is considered Source 1 for this date:

Track list:

03. [3:31] Dreaming Of Me
Total time: 10:08

Thanks to Steveboy for sharing on the BowieStation. Broadcast on Sky Arts Jan 2018

MP4 - Quality excellent.

1976-90. New. The story of the legendary Hansa studios in Berlin, which used to overlook the Wall and has hosted many well-known acts including David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Depeche Mod, Nick Cave and Brian Eno, to name but a few, great live version of Lust for Life with Tony Sales on Bass and Gaz Coombes I believe on vocals.

Music For Misfits: The Story of Indie - Episode 1 - "The DIY Movement" (MKV)

Broadcast on BBC4 HD, 2nd October 2015

"BBC Four tells the definitive story of indie music with a series about the wide-ranging genre loved by young and old, across the decades. The three-part documentary series charts the evolution of alternative music: from its inception in the late 1970s, to the boom of the genre in the 80s and its demise in the 90s, following the mainstream success of its Britpop successor. The series features the best songs of the era, archive video footage and exclusive anecdotes from the people who were there.

The opening episode of the series explores the origins of the UK’s alternative music scene, with the emergence of independent record labels and the eclectic sound hubs they spawned in cities across the country."

Thanks to ligushka for sharing this one on Dime.

Some Great Reward Tour

Incomplete pro-shot video
Lineage: French TV station (?) -> probably VHS -> unknown transfer -> DVD

A good pro-shot video of the Some Great Reward tour. Audio is excellent quality, but sounds strange during "Shake The Disease" since one channel was damaged and the station apparently pasted the studio version over one channel. Some incorrect samples are played during "Everything Counts" (listen @ 35:06 and 37:25). This DVD had several TV playback performances as bonuses, but I have not uploaded them with this torrent.

Depeche Mode - Something Else - 23.10.1981 (ProShot DVD)

Thanks to the original uploader on Dime.

Original Info File.

A pro-shot DVD recording of this seven track television performance which is often attributed to being from 1981-11-06 University, Liverpool, England, UK was actually recorded on this date. The confusion arises due to the fact that it was broadcast on November 6, 1981. Further backstory and information is provided thanks to the Facebook group Depeche Mode Classic Photos And Videos (https://www.facebook.com/groups/depechemodeclassicfansphotosandvideos/):

----

1981-10-23 - TV Recording, 'Something Else' . October 23rd 1981 .

Broadcast date: 6th November 1981

The video footage usually credited as live at Liverpool University on 6th November 1981, is actually footage shot for the TV show 'Something Else'. The mistake has come about because this is the date the show was broadcast.

I started investigating this after spotting Deb Danahay Mann and Jo Gahan in the audience. When I pointed it out to her, she said it wasn't her, and what's more, she wasn't at the Liverpool gig. I was confused, but hey, she should know, right?

Some time later, Deb had another look at the footage, and realised that it was in fact her in the audience, with Jo and Anne Swindell. Confused, she checked her diary, and she definitely was not in Liverpool on 6th November.

Remembering the 'Something Else' footage, I decided to look into this further. With the help of Deb's archive, these pictures came to light, detailing the schedule for the 'Something Else' show. It was recorded on 23rd October, edited on 24th October, and broadcast on 6th November. Another check in the diary revealed that Deb was indeed at the recording!

Some YouTube clips, correctly identify the performance from the TV show, but it has been missed that these are one and the same. The supposed 'Liverpool' footage is a timecoded, unedited copy, that even has two performances of 'Tora! Tora! Tora!' and 'Nodisco', further proof that this was not a gig. If you compare the footage, you'll see that it is fact the same performance. You will also see it credited as 'Something Else' on the 'Speak & Spell' remaster DVD.

Anyway, regarding the DVD, the quality is not too terrible. It's certainly watchable. The audio has a constant ringing noise throughout, but it's a fair bit clearer than the audio alone which I shared in my previous torrent. I do not know why the video resolution is so odd though.
