RE-UPLOAD: David Bowie and John Cale - Ciarbisstudio, New York, USA - 05.10.1979 (Flac)

Original Info File:

AKA Two Gentlemen In New York.
FL Records - 080284

On October 5, 1979, David Bowie and John Cale went into the Ciarbisstudio, which is located on top of a house or appartment complex in the city of New York.
They recorded some songs there.
Here are some results of these uniQue rehearsals!!

Lineage: 7" > HD > Cleaning Software > CDR > HD > Mind-Warp PaVilion

Side 1: Velvet Couch
Side 2: Piano-la

I purchased this numbered limited edition bootleg single, back in the "old days" from one of them "dodgy" mail order services, I expect some time after 8th February 1984, if the release code is to be believed. ;) In fact, I purchesed 3 copies, expecting that one day they'll have some value, considering it was limited to 500 copies. I received Numbers 298, 302, and 303. I guess the "inner Circle" got the important numbers.

In any case, my copies have had very limited airings over the last 25 years, and so this vinyl rip is probably as good as it gets.

The Story of Hansa Studios 1976-1990 - Documentary (MP4)

Thanks to Steveboy for sharing on the BowieStation. Broadcast on Sky Arts Jan 2018

MP4 - Quality excellent.
Downloaded from a link given by Nmert on the Bowie Station Forum

1976-90. New. The story of the legendary Hansa studios in Berlin, which used to overlook the Wall and has hosted many well-known acts including David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Depeche Mod, Nick Cave and Brian Eno, to name but a few, great live version of Lust for Life with Tony Sales on Bass and Gaz Coombes I believe on vocals.

This is from a CD-R set I have, compiled from three shows - Ottawa 28th August 1987, Sydney 3rd November 1987, and Sydney 4th November 1987

Loving The Alien is particulary good here - nice flute at start + echo on Bowie's voice. Never Let Me Down and Big Brother seem worthy of mention too as standouts here too.

There is a sign of a little disc rot here and there - most noticeably as Modern Love starts.

But it's a good compilation, and the 4th November 87 tracks seem harder to find - from what I've seen - than the rest here.

If this is for you - enjoy.

David Bowie - The Last Five Years (Documentary)

BBC2 Documentary

First shown January 7th 2017

There was nothing predictable about David Bowie. Everything was designed to intrigue, to challenge, to defy all expectations. But perhaps no period in David Bowie's extraordinary career raised more fascination, more surprise, and more questions than the last five years. This is an intimate portrait of one of the defining artists of the twentieth and early twenty first centuries, told by the people who knew him best - his friends and artistic collaborators.

This film takes a detailed look at Bowie's last albums, The Next Day and Blackstar, and his play Lazarus. In his final five years, Bowie not only began producing music again, but returned to the core and defining themes of his career. This film explores how Bowie was a far more consistent artist than many interpretations of his career would have us believe. It traces the core themes from his final works and relates them to his incredible back catalogue. His urge to communicate feelings of spirituality, alienation and fame underpin his greatest works from the 1960s to 2016. This is what lies at the heart of his success and appeal - music that deals with what it means to be human in a way that goes far beyond the normal palette of a rock star.

The film is not a comprehensive overview of his entire career, but an in-depth exploration of pivotal moments that show how the themes, the narrative and the approach is consistent - it is simply the palette that changes. The film includes every key member of the Next Day band, the Blackstar band and those who worked with him on the stage play Lazarus. In addition, old friends and colleagues are on hand to explore how the work of the last five years relates to Bowie's back catalogue. And, as in David Bowie: Five Years, there is a wealth of unseen and rare archive footage.

Notes: I got very lucky when I found a ticket on the day of this show (at face value). Definitely a unique concert. When Michael Dorf started the show by announcing that Patti Smith was ill and that The Roots were not performing I was definitely disappointed, but that's show business. You can read about what happened with The Roots here: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/the-roots-bilal-kimbra-pull-out-of-bowie-tribute-concerts-20160330. As usual for rock shows that I've attended at this venue, the acoustics were pretty poor, and it's well captured in this recording. A second show at Radio City Music Hall is tonight, but I'm not there. Maybe someone else? I video recorded only one song, but it's a good one:

This was my first exposure to "stereo" tv, with lots of friends and drink. Someone bumped the tape monitor switch at 1:14:9 minutes into Cat People causing a three second dropout. Other than that and a bit of reception noise (that cannot be heard once the music starts), it's a fine recording.

This was taped by me.

David Bowie - The Leon Suites (1. Outside Outtakes) (Flac)

Thanks to Jan Erik for making these demos avaiable in lossless form.

These demos were recorded and rejected by the record company in 1994.
The Leon Suites eventually turned into the 1. Outside album released in 1995.

Parts of the 3 suites have been available on earlier bootleg releases,
but all of them have been sourced from low bit rate MP3s.

This is the first release of the complete Leon Suit in a lossless version.

The source of this recording is a CDR provided by Adam Bedstroke (patdrome). A lot of thanks goes out to him for letting these demos be shared amongst fans.

David Bowie - Breaking down Heroes track by track (MP4)

Thanks to the original uploader.

Description:
Breaking down David Bowie's 'Heroes' - Track-by-track
Ripped by Badvok

Producer Tony Visconti uses the original master tapes from sessions at Hansa Studio in Berlin to get to the heart of the title track from 'Heroes', one of David Bowie’s best-loved songs.

We hear the song built up by individual contributions, including those from guitarist Robert Fripp, Brian Eno's 'synthesiser in a briefcase' and of course David Bowie's powerful, harshly emotional vocal.

This film with Tony Visconti is an extended version of that on the BBC Four programme Music Moguls: Melody Makers. It closes with the iconic music video for 'Heroes', directed in 1977 by Stanley Dorfman.

RE-UPLOAD: David Bowie - Toy (Flac)

Today the DB DVD bonanza has an extra cookie :) Thanks to ziggy for this gem, in Flac no less. extra cool cover!

Original Info file:

Originally, Bowie had recorded the album Toy for release in 2001 or 2002. This album was meant to feature some new songs and remakes of some his lesser-known songs from the 1960s. Toy remains officially unreleased.

"Liza Jane" was Bowie's debut single, released under the name Davie Jones with the King Bees. The original version of "Silly Boy Blue" appeared on Bowie's eponymous debut album, and several other versions of these songs were released during Bowie's early career including "I Dig Everything," "Baby Loves That Way," as collected on Early On (1964–1966), and "In The Heat Of The Morning," and "The London Boys," as collected on The Deram Anthology 1966–1968. A version of "Conversation Piece" was recorded and released in 1970.

"Uncle Floyd" (retitled "Slip Away") and "Afraid" were later released on Heathen, “Baby Loves That Way”, “Shadow Man”, and “You’ve Got A Habit of Leaving” were released as b-sides to Heathen's singles, and "Conversation Piece" was released on the Limited edition bonus disc of Heathen in 2002.

 1."Uncle Floyd" - 6:15
 2."Afraid" - 3:29
 3."Baby Loves That Way" - 4:38
 4."I Dig Everything" - 4:53
 5."Conversation Piece" - 3:53

The sound quality is excellent, and the songs are probably recorded from the original BBC tapes.
I don't think that the sound quality can get any better.

Philippe Decouflé brings together musicians, singers, dancers and performers in a great celebration glam rock. Halfway between concert and performance, this creation event features the various facets of Bowie myth. Let's dance!

Seeming to come from a foreign language, even alien, the title of this creation - Wiebo - ad maliciously color: it is indeed cast a sidelong glance at Bowie, return it in all directions to better bring out the if its light shimmering universe and diffract to the public. The many facets of "The Man Who Fell to Earth" thus reflect brightly throughout an absolutely stunning transgender and resolutely show. Reporting to the concert as much as performance, an official ceremony as much as a clandestine cabaret, glam rock this big celebration runs through the work of Bowie songs in fifteen. Philippe Decouflé has surrounded for the occasion singers Sophie Hunger, Jehnny Beth (Savages) and Jeanne Added, of circus artists with whom he had worked at the Circus of the Sun, company dancers and performers atypical.
