It's not all sunsets
Snaefell is the Mountain you can see bottom right of the photo. On a clear day you can see for miles, across to England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Not on a stormy weather day though like today. That's when the pub is a better option. Taken from the Poyll Dooey Nature Reserve.

Ballure Glen
The walk to the sea
Ballure Glen is another hidden walk you'd overlook if you didn't know where to look, as it's set off the main road leading out of Ramsey to Douglas. If you start at the top entrance, off Ballure Road, you follow the path and stream from Ballure Reservoir, that will eventually lead you to the Irish Sea and beach If you decide to go over the little bridge situated within the glen, you have a small climb up to Ballure Walk and where you'll find a picnic area. The island is full of myths and legends, and one of those tells of Carrasdoo men. Believed to have had a base by the arches where the path meets beach. There fires were lit tricking ships leading to their destruction. These men were known as 'wreckers'. The Isle of Man, has a always will be a strange but beautiful place.

North Barrule, the beach view
What is the Barrule?
North Barrule is the mountain you can see in the distance, over looking Ramsey. This is the view from the beach. Here you can check out the view from Albert Tower, on higher ground. North Barrule stands at 1842ft, making it the second highest peak on the Isle of Man. Worth a trek up there, on a clear day, as you can view, England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. It's also the site of the worst aviation acident to happen on island with loss of life to all 31 people on board a Boeing B-17 "Flying Fortress" in 1945.

I'M STUMPED! - MONOCHROME ODD SHOTS
Monochrome Odd Shots
Stump - What remains after of the tree trunk and roots after the top section of the tree has been felled. Ok that makes sense. Pretty straightforward so far. Can someone explain to me then what they think has happened here? I came across this stump/trunk in the heavily wooded area of the nature reserve. This was a close as I could get but all around seemed untouched apart from this one tree which stuck out like a sore thumb with it's top lobbed off. I checked the area around it and as you can see the foliage around is undisturbed. So not only why would this have been done, but how. I assume it's those corn circle aliens or possibly the Manx Fairies lopping off tree tops to make fairy furniture or something. So until someone has a rational, practical explanation I will as they say print the myth. I know the truth will be fairly innocuous and the reason why it was done so mundane, but in keeping with the island being all myth and legend hiding under shrouded cloaks(fog, nothing more, than fog) thieving mermaids, barmy witches and cheeky fairies I just have to play along with the spooky tale.
This is not the only odd shot I have found in the woodlands of the reserve though So maybe it's not such a fishy tale after all. You may remember, click red below,
Welcome to the Deadwood Family Reunion
I never did find out who put the paper there, and how they got up there without being either a giant or someone who carried step ladders around with them at all times. Such is island life.

TREE ROCKS THE BEACH
Well I'm stumped how this got here!
There is a sports related saying in Britain, "rain stopped play" which we tend to say when a cricket match has to be halted. Well I can apply it to my beach adventure or should I say non adventure this week. It has been persisiting down all week so one we made earlier as they say. A mid week monochrome, from midway along the beach.
Things you find on the beach in Ramsey
I was hoping to find lots more sewaeed, groups of birds, odd items but to no avail. I did happenstance upon the tree stump on the beach nestling amongst the rock pools. Not going to reveal exactly where, so I can return and see if the tide has swept it away, it remains, or the beach volunteers have removed it. I'm hoping it's a keeper. It's a nice rough textured material to photograph against the smooth pebbles and lucid water. I photographed as a vertical but it's an image that could be shown anyway round as it's not really grounded. I took this with the little Olympus just for fun. It is all very well me saying it's the photographer not the camera, but then I have to demonstrate this. Leaving the big Nikon and lenses at home is not only lighter but makes me work harder to find an interesting suitable image. The only difference with the Nikon would be no bleaching of colour on the trunk, but that's it. Framing would be the same for both why - repeat after me "it's the photographer who thinks the image not the camera." Might have to use this as my mantra
I'm really not up to much blog wise at the moment.Late post, really busy and not much free time G's new assignments.
Out of interest have you found a tree on the beach?

MONOCHROME ODDSHOTS - WHAT LIGHT THROUGH YONDER BRANCHES BREAK
Tree trunk legs can slimmed down in monochrome?
So what's odd about this. For me there are many things that are slightly odd, weird, quirky, peculiar about this image from the twisted branches to the odd trunk but I'll go with the spot of light you see. If this was colour you would know whether that was sunlight, moonlight, a sun flare, a fill flash etc. Oddly when you strip the colour from the image there is no point of reference, no colour, light or shade poking through the leaves and branches. The ball of light could be anything now, any time of day.
So here's my question for you photography enthusiasts out there, what time of day do you think this is. Just for fun of course, lighten up people I want this to be educational as you request, but please don't get in a flap.
Well you all know the problems I'm having and now I really am struggling. Only half the images to hand, and have to borrow Gary's laptop and upload one image only. So no at the moment no new images can be taken and it's getting to be a real headache as I cannot post at my leisure and choose an image and text in tandem already written. You could be getting some very bizarre images turn on the blog like my other tree odd shot click here
