Bold Statement - ABC

Dontcha wish your snowman was hot like mine

B

If you are on B's Facebook you will know I'm less B for bewitched and more for bothered and bewildered by the whole island failure to connect properly with the outside world.the last 24 hrs. Maddening. So you get a last minute substitute image as I've being haranguing Facebook all day to no avail about getting the Isle of Man a proper, stand alone server. We are an island, a country apart. Ramsey is not in Manchester, UK. In fact none of the island is. Don't get me started on that one, or I will tell you why we should not be paying for a TV license either! Rant over. The snowman.

Not sure if it's a snowman or snow woman. Play safe and shall we say flamboyant? Whatever he/she/it is I'm going with Lola ( you should know my musical references by now) and say that is just the coolest outfit you see on a snow person, of which I can take no credit for dressing, and that outfit surely is a "bold statement." Ambiguous B, yes but Bowring Road would be such a boring obvious B, and I have shown you the Britannia pub before. There is a bonus B in there if you look very closely. Babooshka. As I don't really exist though, only for blog purposes, maybe that reflection of the photographer is in your head.

Allo, Allo, Allo, what have we here then?

An arresting sight for the letter A

Evening all.

What have we here then Sonny Jim? The laughing Policeman perhaps? All rights reserved image? The Old Bill (nah, that's the one you get for the use of the image) or maybe it's just a bloke doing his job. Stop thief! The Police are back from walking on the moon and keeping the (not so mean) streets of the Isle of Man clean. Hey let's be careful out there and do it to them before they do it you. Allo, Allo, Allo is a lovely quaint term of endearment for the boys in blue, best said of course with a Cockney accent. No, no no, not Dick Van Dyke allllllwight Mare -wree Poppppinnns way, more your Pearly Queen me and my gal, doing the Lambeth Walk(Oi!) underneath the arches Flanders & Swan way. Clear as mud eh? It's just a copper doing his job. Believe me don't nick him all you'll be the one doing time.

As you can see humour has been restored to the blog. For more A's around the world clickety click this word here.

By the way did you notice our Policeman have white helmets. Aren't you jealous. We just have to be different don't we.

MY WORLD IS BLOOMIN' MARVELLOUS

Cherry Blossom is in the pink

My World

I don't usually show flowers, not really my favourite thing to photograph, but Cherry Blossoms in Spring are a particular favourite. Especially the ones we have along the main high street, Parliament Street. In fact these bloomin' lovelies are right outside a building that used to be a shocking soft pink. Now soft pink isn't shocking you might say? It is when the pink building in question is the local Police station! It's now a dull sedate cream and I wasn't in the mood to show dull cream, on a sizzling blue sky day. We needed hot pink petals and cheeriest of cherry blossoms. If you're good I'll show you the Pink Police Station of the past sometime. That is if you're all on your best behaviour and I can find the file which is definitely not named "hot pink police stations of Ramsey." No life is never that easy.

Finally a day off. Yippee.

Ramsey is famous( in a very small circles obviously) for it's blooms, often representing the island in competitions, and the North of the island for island wide(wide my ar..) floral showdowns. Fastest finger on the Geranium, and tulips at dawn. I'll stick with motorbikes and Rugby, which is not very girlie I know, but they are more my photography world and certainly more challenging. If really want to see some pretty flowers and the odd arty one of Ramsey Blooms from my wee colletcion, click below. This image was taken with the little point shoot not the big nikon. You can still get soft focus with a point and shoot, just work the little bugg.... and have fairy magic.

Marsh Orchid
Black Tulip
Shellan

A change from my usual My World posting,s more a generic petal power than a specific to the area. Cherry Blossoms afterall are not exclusive to the island, unlike the fairies of Man, the Manx ones.

Klaus, Imac, Fishing Guy, Ivar, Tom, Louise, Wren, Sandy and others are to thank for the My World neme. Click here for more my world's just for fun again of course

SPRINGING THE BLUES - SKYWATCH

Blue River, wherever your going I'm going your way.

Skywatch

I'm back in sync again now after missing a day. As I said blame it on St Patrick, Mr Jack Daniels and the Plough. That will make no sense to you if you have just stopped by, for those in the know stop laughing. So it's Friday(well actually it's Thursday as I type but who cares) it must be skywatch. It's spring you know what that means don't you? It means I can be found along the lazy river back in the nature reserve again. It's been far to muddy in there but at last I can bombard you all with images of the Sulby River in The Poyll Dooey Nature Reserve. Why is this so fabulous? Well obviously the place is absolutely gorgeous, full of wildlife, wildflowers, meadows, the river, the white bridge, fish, fabulous reflections and sunsets blah di blah di blah. Yes, yes, it has all that majestic wondrous nature stuff of course by the bucket load which is terrific naturally, but it's not the best reason it's a boon to be able to go back in. No the best reason of all is..... It's at the back of my house so when I really can't be ars..., sorry I mean when one simply does not have time to traipse around the town I can wander over in my scruffs or kimono and slippers take a pic and walk back all before the kettle has boiled. I never said I was a hardworking photography genius, just a genius.

Of course I jest and really playing on the irony tonight. I adore the Sulby River, the nature reserve and it's close proximity to my house is so welcome. What the genius bit? Who said I was being ironic there?Ha! Ha!

Skywatch watchers can be found here. Many thanks to Dot for the inspirational idea, Tom for the first care taking and the My world gang for looking after skywatch now.

The image has the blues I refuse too.

GRAND ISLAND HOTEL BURGLARY

Grand Theft Auto?

Be warned I'm having a rant.

Skywatch post below for those you don't want to read the ravings of an angry blogger but would like some photography tips. Back to the post in hand. Remember a couple of weeks ago I showed you an image of the building about to be demolished for My World? Click here to read the full post. In a nutshell The Grand Island Hotel has closed, due for demolition, new flats(apartments) complex are to be built on the land, and an auction to sell any keepsakes has taken place. Well guess what? Since that post a bunch of scumbags, not as polite a word as you deserve but all common decency will allow me write in blogland, have burgled whatever was left inside. Not only that they have vandalised, no trashed, the place in the process of stripping the place of it's final trappings and dare I say dignity. Nice world isn't it when even on a small relatively safe time warp island thieving scumbags hatch a plot to do a final act of ignominy to a once Grand Hotel. Sad sign of our times. Apologisies too for the image just grabbed anyone I had to hand.

That's better Now I'll do the funny side so not to depress you all. On a lighter note all I will say is the bunch of tourists who I featured the thursday all have alibis. Of course as the hotel was way off along Mooragh Promenade it was too far for their elderly weak bladders to get to without stopping to spend a penny anyway. there are no toilets that way now the hotel has closed. Also they would have had to negotiate the swinging bridge of doom and they just will not cross that particular bridge when they come to it for all the hotel fittings in Ramsey, never mind tea in China. The Zimmer Frame Gang then have been ruled out and as the Police say it's a local job.

Make of this post what you will. It happened. That's just how the world is. I chose to post it because I like light and shade and as I say in the header sometimes the ugly side of life rears it's head and I will not gloss over this just to keep folks happy. It happened, it's sad, but tomorrow is another day as they say.

TONY SOPRANO HAS AN ISLE OF MAN BANK ACCOUNT

Barker

Bet that got your attention didn't it!

Actually, it's true.

Ok, not strictly true as he was a fictional character, but you get my drift. The fictional character, Tony Soprano of The Sopranos(doh!) did have money stashed away here in the Isle of Man in a Off Shore bank account, set up by his Russian contacts. Go back and check it out. Mid series I think. Really not my imagination, they name the Isle of Man in two episodes, honest. So referring to the 3 legs that appear on both the Isle Of Man and the Sicily flag now you know why. Not quite sure if we have a Manx Mafia but if we have should I be worrying now I have drawn your attention to the flags and dodgy cash connection. If my blog doesn't appear tomorrow you will know why. I might be sleeping with the fishes! You understand I'm joking don't you? That's just for those devoid of a sense of humour.

The Isle of Man has long since had a reputation for a place to salt your off shore funny money away, alas not entirely true. Things have tightened up here. So while we do have a low tax threshold, we try not to be financial heaven for erm, funny money attained through, how shall we say not on the level means. Obama also has his on views on "Tax Havens" as we are known.
You may want to see what he has to say. No link you can find that out. I dare not prompt you.

The cartoon bears no relation to the post. No images and in light of recent events wanted to show something lighter from the Barker Illustration Collection rather than the Political.
