DEAD RECKONING (1947): My Favorite Bogart Film.

OK ,as I said this is my favorite Bogart film for so many reasons. But instead of going on about them , since the film is running on TCM this Wednesday what I'd like to do is have your reaction to the film in form of a discussion after the showing.
With the Holidays come up fast I'd say lets have the discussion on January 3rd Time TBA if you are so inclined .
This film is one you really want to go into "cold" .
I really want your thoughts on John Cromwell's direction and the interaction of Boggie and Lizabeth Scott.

The Big Steal: Screwball Noir?

Film Historian Richard B. Jewell has called The Big Steal "'A Screwball Noir". I don't know if I'd go that far, but this 1949 film directed by Don Siegel is a fast paced chase
film that's a lot of fun.
Films like the the Big Steal work best when you know as little as possible going in(I call it going in cold) just letting the film happen. Don Siegal wants you to pay attention from the first scene on, and let's you try to figure out wants going on.
What I'll tell you is William Bendix is after Robert Mitchum, Mitchem and Jane Greer are after Patric Knowles, and Ramon Norvarro sit's back and watches.
This film was shot on location in Mexico, and has some classic car chases. The screenplay by Geoferey Homes, & Gerald Drayson Adams is witty, and fast paced. Think Cary and Roz in His Girl Friday.
Mitchum and Greer make it look so easy(it's not)
Jane was not the first choice for this film. Elizabeth Scott was signed to do the part . But because this film was going in to production after "Bob's Weed Problem", Liz like most other actress's in Hollywood at the time did not want any thing to do with Mitchum. Jane was an old friend after making Out Of The Past, and when asked said "Why not". I'm glad she did .I can see no one but Jane in this part.
So Is this A Screwball Noir? Watch the film and then we'll talk.

Sorry I Took So Long.

When Dawn first asked me to post here I thougt I'd do a "Chick Flick For Guys" type of thing. But since Dawn has renamed the site Noir Chick Flicks I had to regroup. So after much thought I'm going to list and then post on what I feel are classic Noir Chick Flicks.

In the coming weeks I'll talk about Films like : Gun Crazy with John Dall And Peggy Cummins. A benchmark film noir and a fore runner to Bonnie and Clyde

Dead Reckoning with Humphrey Bogart and Lizabeth Scott (my favorite Bogart Film) Out Of The Past, and The Big Steal both with Robert Mitchum and Jane Greer Laura, and Where The Sidewalk Ends, both with Dana Andrews and Gene Tierney. Macao and His Kind Of Woman both with Robert Mitchum and Jane Russell
First up will be The Big Steal, stay tuned.
