Os Steampacket formaram-se em Londres em 1965 com Brian Auger (órgão), Vic Briggs (guitarra), Ricky Brown (baixo) e Mick Waller (bateria) - eram, no fundo, Brian Auger and the Trinity que já tocavam juntos desde 64 - a que juntaram as vozes de Rod Stewart e de Long John Baldry, que tinham estado nos Hoochie Coochie Men.

A secretária do clube de fãs dos Yardbirds (Giorgio Gomelsky era o agente das duas bandas), Julie Driscoll, alinhou quase a seguir.

No Verão de 1965, os Steampacket fizeram a digressão nacional dos Rolling Stones e dos Walker Brothers.

Não existem gravações oficiais do grupo devido a problemas contratuais, a não ser estes 9 trechos que eram unicamente de promoção.

Em Março de 1966, Rod Stewart saiu para os Shotgun Express (Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood)e seis meses depois a banda acabou.

Long John Baldry fez os Bluesology, com Reg Dwight, futuro Elton John, Vic Briggs para os New Animals, Ricky Brown trabalhou com Georgie Fame, Brian Auger e Julie Driscoll continuaram juntos.
