Doctor Who 50th Anniversary!

I know that blog posts have been a bit sporadic over the past little while, but if you know me at all, you know that I wouldn't miss the chance to do some nail art for today... It's Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary!!

Source
In honour of the longest-running sci-fi show ever, I did some galaxy nails with a TARDIS and the Doctor Who logo!  I've had this idea floating around in my head forever, and I'm so glad I finally got around to doing it!

For those of you who don't watch Doctor Who: my sincerest condolences.  You're missing out.

On a side note here, has anyone else watched An Adventure In Space And Time yet?  I watched it online, and it's SO GOOD.  It's a 60's-set docu-drama about the beginnings of Doctor Who starring David Bradley (better known to Potterheads as Argus Filch) playing first Doctor William Hartnell.  You don't even have to be a Whovian to enjoy or understand it, it's that amazing.  Not going to lie, the end made me cry a little.  You've been warned.

Nails!  For my galaxy mani, I started with a base of Cult Nails Time Traveler, for obvious reasons.  I then sponged on piCture pOlish Twinkle, OPI Russian Navy, and Zoya Aurora, along with a couple of Doctor-inspired polishes including Dollish Polish It's Bigger on the Inside and Lynn B Designs Time And Relative Dimension In Space.  I added a coat of OPI Pirrouette My Whistle for some stars!  The Doctor Who logo and TARDIS were done with acrylic paint, and it's all topped off with two coats of Seche Vite.

My roommate got me the above-pictured TARDIS mug for my birthday, and my other Whovian friend got me a TARDIS cookie jar (which is way too big to hold for a photo) filled with homemade cookies!  They know me too well...

I haven't done detailed freehand work in quite a while, so execution was a little rusty on this one.  Nevertheless, I still love it!

Please keep the comments spoiler-free, as I actually won't be watching The Day of the Doctor (50th Anniversary Special) until Monday when I go to see it in the theatre with my previously-mentioned Whovian friend and his family!  (Plus their last name is Who, because they're awesome and British.  I have cool friends.)

And so with that, I leave you the comments section... Fangirl time!! :D

Nerd Lacquer: Don't Blink

In light of the revelation that is to be announced in just a few short hours, I figured today was a good day for yet another Doctor Who Nerd Lacquer to keep my mind off of the constant worried excitement over waiting to find out who has been cast as the twelfth Doctor!!

Today I've got Nerd Lacquer Don't Blink to share; you can see all my previous Nerd Lacquer posts here.   Seeing as this polish was inspired by one of the most terrifying (in my opinion) Who monsters, the weeping angels, I was seriously freaked out while searching for gifs to load in here, as you can probably understand.  As River Song told us, anything that holds the image of an angel becomes an angel in itself.  I might be a little bit paranoid.

Distracting dancing-Matt gif!!  The rest of the post is after the jump.  Read at your own risk; I'm not responsible if an angel climbs out of your computer screen.

Nerd Lacquer: Regeneration

Guess what I've got today?  More Doctor Who Nerd Lacquer!!
Source
This crazy-Matt-gif is becoming a thing, isn't it?  I love it.  Today's polish is Regeneration, an orange jelly base with tons of different sizes of gold, yellow, and orange glitter packed in.

Since I'm done watching all of Eleven's episodes, I'm working on going back and watching series 1-4 with Nine and Ten.  Since I'm watching Nine right now, I figured it was only fair to include a little Eccleston.  ;)  Relevant, I promise.  What is regeneration, you ask?

Here's a tip: don't shoot a girl while she's regenerating!

Source

I used three thin coats of Regeneration for full coverage, topped with one thick coat of Seche Vite for a smooth finish.  These photos are in the lightbox.

Unfortunately, I quickly came to the realization that this polish looked absolutely horrible on my skin tone; it looks better in photos than in person though.  My skin hates oranges like the Doctor hates pears.  I quickly came to this conclusion about this polish:

But then:

Fandom crossover WIN.  The combination of Nerd Lacquer and Doctor Who is just too awesome to not like, even if the polish in question looks like a dog vomited on my fingers against my skin tone.  You can bet I'll be wearing it again, quite possibly on Christmas day as I mourn the loss of Matt Smith.

Just to see if it made things better, I matted it with one coat of Essie Matte About You.  The Doctor still hates pears.

So, what are your thoughts on this polish?  I like it in theory, but it just looks awful on my skin.  Ah well, can't win them all!  Now the most important question: who is your favourite Doctor??  I haven't seen all of new Who yet; I've watched almost all of Nine's episodes as of last night, and in all fairness I haven't really seen enough of Ten to judge, but I think that Eleven will always be my favourite, since he was my first Doctor.  I'll be super sad to see him go in the Christmas special, but at the same time I'm excited to see who will be cast as Twelve!  Opinions; let me hear them!  :)

Nerd Lacquer: Exterminate

Today brings MORE NERD LACQUER!!  This polish is a tribute to a classic Doctor Who villain that everyone loves to hate, the Daleks.  I've even done a Dalek accent nail to go along with this one!!  Woot woot!

This is three thin coats of Nerd Lacquer Exterminate, with a Dalek accent naià la Accio Lacquer!  I scraped down the inside of the bottle with a toothpick and turned it upside-down for a while before using it, to stir up the glitters that were stuck to the bottle.  The base for the ring finger was done before all that, so it doesn't have much glitter on it (on purpose.)

Only one coat of Seche Vite here again, same as I Think You Call Me... Sexy which I posted the other day.  These photos are in the light box as well, because otherwise you lose all the great detail of the individual glitters!

Uh-oh, someone's flipped the Dalek upside-down.  It's not going to be happy.  Basically, RUN!

For the accent nail, I used striping tape from the Born Pretty Store for the stripes, and the "eggs" (oh, Rory...) are some studs that I picked up at the drugstore a while ago.  The colours worked perfectly and I was super happy with how this mani came out; I ended up liking Exterminate a lot more than I had initially expected!  :)

My apologies, but if you've now got a lemming for this hate-filled beauty, getting your hands on it could be quite difficult.  To best exterminate your desire for this, I suggest browsing nail polish Facebook groups for anyone looking to re-home a bottle, and stalk the Nerd Lacquer Google+ page (has anyone figured out how to use that yet?) for updates on any future restocks!

Sorry once again, Mishka. Source
Whovians, it's your turn!  Sound off in the comments, let me hear your thoughts on this Nerd Lacquer!  :)

Nerd Lacquer: I Think You Call Me... Sexy

About a week ago, I received the most exciting package of nail mail ever!!  I thought I had long ago accepted the fact that I would never own any Nerd Lacquers, but thanks to a few people in a Facebook group, I now have FIVE Nerds, and three more on the way that I managed to snatch up from the restock last week!!
You go, Matt.
Anyways, the main reason I've been so awful about posting the past week or two is that I've been spending all my time watching Doctor Who.  I've become completely obsessed, and have spent hours pouring over every episode of new Who (haven't got to the classics yet) but with the arrival of my Nerd Lacquers, I figured it was time to share!  Who's ready to get their Whovian on with me?  :D

The first polish I put on was inspired by none other than the old girl herself, the TARDIS.

This is *EDIT: three coats. Oops!* of I Think You Call Me... Sexy.  It's a gorgeous deep blue jelly/shimmer base; there's tons of silver and blue glitters packed in there, I'm not sure how it all fits!  Oh, must be bigger on the inside.

Totally stole this gif set from Mishka.  Source

These first few photos are in my lightbox, since Sexy is so crazy reflective in all her glittery glory, and you miss all the detail without the lightbox.  I only had to use one thick coat of Seche Vite for a smooth finish, which was a pleasant surprise!

And now, under Mishka's influence, matted Sexy!  Topped with one coat of Essie Matte About You for a glorious velvety smooth TARDIS.  No lightbox here.

How gorgeous is this polish??  Definitely a wonderful choice for my first Nerd Lacquer!  I've already worn a few of the others, so expect to see those over the next week or two, (if I can tear myself away from Who episodes for long enough to write another post, that is.)

Your turn!  Do you have any Nerd Lacquer polishes?  Are you lusting after any?  And most importantly, raise your hands all my fellow Whovians!  :D
