Mirror love and indigo infatuation

Thanks to this fabulous post by Mr Jason Grant I am now besotted with the mirror in this pic - I want to jump on a plane, head up to Sydney, tuck this mirror under my arm and bring it home with me. I think it would be perfect for our new house...but there's just a couple of things stopping me: (1) we have a lot of rebuilding to do before I can even start decorating; and (2) I don't think the flight attendant would let me put this mirror in the overhead locker as carry on baggage.

Actually, the whole Small Spaces store looks fabulous and I think I'd have a hard time containing myself to just buying the mirror!  Can't we have a Small Spaces off-shoot in Melbourne please??

Small Spaces, 674 Bourke Street, Redfern.

Also, given the other things that have recently taken my fancy for the new house, I think there's going to be a fair smattering of indigo in the new house:

And because I'm all over the shop at the moment thinking about the endless possibilities for our little weatherboard house in the country, I'd like a bit of wall panelling too!

P.S. Normally I am fastidious about attributing the images I use to their owners, but unfortunately apart from the top two images from the very lovely Small Spaces, I have had these images tucked away in my archives for quite a while and I can't recollect where they originated from. My apologies. And please, if you know where they're from let me know and I'll pop the links in the post.

Brisbane list

I'm heading up to Brisbane for a few days at the end of next week and in preparation I've put together a list of some of the shops I'd like to visit - if I have the time that is.  I'd really appreciate any other tips on shops, cafes, hotspots etc. that you think would be worth a visit.

Jean and Joyce, Latrobe Terrace, Paddington (thank you Mondocherry for this recommendation):

Buba and La, Latrobe Terrace, Paddington (again, another great Mondocherry recommendation):

Otilly & Lewis, 65 James Street, Fortitude Valley:

Black & Spiro, 768 Brunswick Street, New Farm (a definite must):

Other places I'd like to visit:

  • Nook, 19 Browning Street, West End

  • Emporium, 1000 Ann Street, Fortitude Valley

  • Artisan Gallery, 381 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley

  • The Queensland Art Gallery, Stanley Place, South Bank

  • Museum of Brisbane, 157 Ann Street, Brisbane

  • Stove Cafe, 91 Jane Street, West End.

Monday shop post - The Society Inc.

I usually feature a Melbourne shop on my blog every Monday, but this week I'm heading north to Sydney because I'm so excited that the absolutely gorgeous shop The Society Inc. finally has an online presence.

For those of us that can't make it to Sydney to explore the amazing store The Society Inc, the fabulous interior stylist Sibella Court is now tempting us with an online version of her store. It still looks like the site is still pretty much in its formative stages with many of the tabs yet to be populated, but one lovely part of her site that's already up and running is the 'themes' page.  Four times each year The Society Inc. changes its look completely and a theme is chosen for the shop - each theme is designed to transport the customer to a different society.  Not only that, each 'theme' is also accompanied by a seasonal paint range that the very clever and creative Sibella has designed for Murobond Paints (you can check the paint range out on Murobond's site). Obviously she's very busy too!

And the societies that The Society Inc. has transported its customers to thus far are...

Indigo blues...
Travellers and magicians...
Atelier...
Tradewinds...
Paperwhites...
Foundations...
I'll be popping back over to The Society Inc. site every now and again just to see what fabulousness has been uploaded.  And if you're ever in Paddington, Sydney, it's well worth a trip to Ms Court's secret society (18 Stewart Street, Paddington).

Get the knack

It's raining here in Melbourne and really I should be studying or working, but instead I'm surfing blogs and websites and by and large procrastinating.  Anway, to the point of this post...

Reading yesterday's wonderful post over at Cafe Cartolina, I followed the link to Knack Studios...and now I don't know whether to be happy or sad?!?  Happy - because I found such a beautiful source of inspiration, or sad - because it's located in Greenville in the U.S. and there's no way I can have any of the pretties on their site.  I love absolutely everything on their site, but if I had to choose, I'd want to take these three things home with me...

1. This group of mirrors for my hallway...

2. These canvas cushions with great printed numbers on them. Are they repurposed sails?

3. This chest of drawers.  I just love the colour of the drawers and the very unusual black and white knobs...
It's seriously worth checking out their gorgeous site (and particularly their flickr photos).  I am sure they can make anything look good!  Take the following picture - singularly these plates would look pretty shabby, but stacked like this with a couple of interesting knick knacks and a sign on top and don't they look lovely...

Papermash

The very savvy blogger Lynn over at Tea for Joy has launched her very own online stationery shop, Papermash. It's filled with delectable paper goods. My favourite being this lace tape - using this would make it pretty easy to wrap a stylish present... And, to celebrate the launch of Lynn's shop, she's giving one lucky blogger the chance to win a year's supply of stationery. Head on over to her blog to read the competition details and hear more about her new venture Papermash. Her lovely shop sells beautiful tapes (just like the one above), note cards...

Notebooks...

Gift tags (I love this one because I have a thing for bees)...

Twine...
And much, much more!

Flea market finds from Posh

Not much to say today, other than my new love is the 'Flea market finds' section of Posh Chicago - all their wares are beautifully photographed and I find myself thinking "Mmmm, I wonder how often they upload new stock? I wonder if they freight to Australia? I wonder..."

Check it out...

Shoe lasts made to last

Colourful vintage tins

Old books - I love the one with the floral cover

Mexican yoyos

Apothecary bottles

Not sure what these are or what you'd use them for, but they look gorgeous anyway

Watch faces
