Steampunk Project with Guest Designer Jackie Neal

Hello and welcome everyone!  Jackie Neal here today and I am over the moon excited to be the September Guest Designer here at Gina's Designs!!
The first time I saw Gina's laser cuts used were on a friend's blog. Straight away I had to go check out the store and you know what? I sent my first order in that day!  Thank you Nichola Battilana for turning me on to Gina's Designs!
For my first project, I went all out with Steampunk!
When I received my pieces I knew I had to use the steampunk parts first. I love the chipboard assortment that Gina's has to offer; so much to choose from!

"Fantastic Journey"

The substrate here is an upcycled jewelry box. Perfect to showcase Gina's steampunk elements!
For my gears, I coated them with embossing powder and then layer and layers of paint for a grungy, rusty look.

With the Steampunk card stock doily set, I used embossing paste through a gears stencil over areas on the doilies. When dry, first I added more color to the embossed areas, then I cut and molded the doilies onto areas of the box using gel paste.

Next for my Steampunk lady, I used two different sizes of the dressforms cut and fitted to make her cage dress. She also has on a corset from the Dressforms set as well as Gina's Steampunk Wings.
Behind her in the box there is more of the Steampunk doily as well as FANTASTIC from the Word Ribbon 3 Set.

12 x 12 Layouts by Kim and by Shanna

Hello Crafty Friends!  Today we have two gorgeous layouts to share!  First up is Kim to share her vintage heritage styled layout called "Somewhere in Time"

Happy Friday friends! Today I would like to share with you my "Somewhere in Time" layout.
I started off this layout being inspired by one of my vintage photos from my collection. I love the kind of "Mona Lisa" smile on this lady and wanted to use her as my starting off point.

I used some lovely paper for the background which has a crackled effect on it, and it went perfectly with the vintage feel of the photo. I used a lot of sprays, paints and textures on the background to build up some layers and color. Then I got out my Bo Bunny Somewhere in Time paper and ephemera I also layered on some corrugated cardstock and gauze paper which picked up the blue tones in the other paper.

I have then layered on some of the new Renata Flourishes from Gina's Shop, and some lovely laces and trims from Craftsupplies1. The photo on the right has an element I received in a swap from Gina herself, (she's kind of a master at those!) and I thought it topped the flourish off nicely.

The upper left photo is one of the alarm clock frame ups with one of the hot air balloon charms from Craftsupplies1. I layered it on top of more of the Bo Bunny ephemera.

Finally, here you can see some of the chain border which I painted with some chalk inks and Shimmerz paints.
I hope you had fun taking a journey though time with me today!

Next up is Shanna to share her mixed media layout called "Explore Your path"

Hey everyone. Shanna here to help you get the weekend started. I hope you all get some crafty time this weekend. I know I am planning it.

I am beyond excited to share with you a new layout I created.

I had a blast using my all time favorite Gears Shape Set and I got to use a frame from the Scribbled Frames and Lines Set

First I created my background by using a stencil, some Twinkling H2O's, stamps, and modeling paste.

Then on the frame, first I gave it some gesso, then I added a little bit of red gelato.  After that I went crazy with glass bead gel. Then I covered it all up with twinkling H2O's. After that dried, I added a little bit of Bloom Spray.

For my gears I kept it simple and added some gold rub n buff. Then I went to town and embellished my page.

Grab your chipboard and have a blast!

Mixed Media Steampunk Canvas by Nancy

Hello Friends, it's Nancy here, and today I'm sharing an altered inverted 8 x 10 canvas that I created in a fun Steampunk style.  The adorable image and the papers behind it were digital freebies that I had printed  previously but hadn't decided on a project yet.  I thought that the Steampunk chipboard shapes from Gina's Designs really complimented this image.  I used the techniques described below on the chipboard shapes.

The butterfly, the hot air balloon, and the gears corner at bottom right were first given a light coat of gesso.  I always use a light touch with the gesso, usually just a dry brushing with a fan brush,  because I like the natural shading it provides when some of the natural chip color is coming through.  I then used a variety of different colored gelatos on the butterfly.  I blended the colors with a touch of water then let it dry.  To get the distressed and grungy look I was after, I sanded it back so some gesso showed through.  I followed that with a touch of Prima chalk ink in a burnt orange color.  By that point you couldn't even tell that I'd ever used the gelatos, but with each layer of color you add, you'll get more depth and dimension as an end result.  I added a bit of stickles here and there, some bead connectors and I coiled some copper wire for antennae.

On the balloon, I stamped a script stamp with perfect medium, then added shades of perfect pearls.  It has a beautiful sheen to it that doesn't show in the photos.  For the balloon overlay I embossed with copper embossing powder, sanded some of it off, then touched it up with Prima Chalk Ink in burnt orange.

For the gears, I simply ran it through my Big Shot in a dry embossing folder, then rubbed it with different shades of Gilder's Paste.

For the chipboard Word Ribbon Title of "Explore", I rubbed the raw chipboard with Prima Chalk Ink in the burnt orange shade, added a touch of Tim Holtz tarnished brass Distress Paint then rubbed gesso over the letters.

There's more info on how I created the texture on the canvas and the grungy flowers on my blog HERE.

Reliquary Arch Top by Shanna

Hey everyone. Shanna here to share a fun altered piece I created using some awesome chipboard from the store.

I had so much decorating this piece. I painted the Reliquary Arch Top pieces black then went over them with some Gold Rub n Buff.

For the fairy I painted her teal then gave her a coat of Rock Candy Crackle Paint.

I also used a new banner from the store. These are so fun as they come engraved or raised. How cool is that!  The banner just got a coat of Rub n Buff.

I just love spotlighting these fairies.
