Winter Woodland

We have been experiencing a deep freeze for the past few days with the temperature below -25 degrees Celsius and then add the windchill and it is just unbearable to be walking any distance outdoors.

Given the cold temperatures, I was certainly inspired to make a Christmas card.  I am still playing along on the Cricut forum in RAQ's Challenges.  The particular sketch for my card was a Viva sketch.  I have also decided to submit this card in the Merry Monday Challenge.  A great challenge but unfortunately I have not played along in a while.  The theme this week is "For the Birds".

Card recipe
Papers Graphic 45 and Bazzil
Cricut Winter Woodland
Snowflake embossing folder
Miscellaneous stamp and brads
Ink - Distressed Black Soot, Vintage Photo, Sepia archival, Versa white chalk

Over the holidays, I watched a few videos and was reminded how inking edges can add depth and layering also helps to give dimension.  For the cardinal, I used the Winter Woodland Cricut cartridge but altered it as the bird did not have a wing nor feathery tail.  I inked the bird's chest and tail in distressed Black Soot ink.  The blue, cream and green frames are also from the Winter Woodland cart. The pine branches were made with the Martha Stewart punch and inked lightly with white chalk ink.  The sentiment is a stamp that I purchased at Michaels a few years ago and it is just hand cut.  I embossed the bottom layer using the Snowflake folder and inked with distress Vintage Photo ink.

I am really happy with this creation!

I plan on being back soon and thanks for dropping by!

Frosty Greetings

So I'm switching gears today from shabby tea to a hot cup of cocoa.  I'm playing along at Merry Monday and I've made another Christmas card - #37 for me, to be exact.

Card recipe
Papers - Fancy Pants Winterland and kraft
Cricut - Joys of the Season (mug) and Speaking of Winter (snowflake)
Crimper used on polka dot paper
Fiskars border punch
Distressed Broken China and Inkadinkado stamp

I've kept this card fairly simple. I used my crimper that's been sitting in the bottom of my drawer to give the allusion of the coffee cup sleeve.

Here's the wonderful sketch from Merry Monday

Thanks for dropping by and I always appreciate hearing from you!

Be Merry Snowman

Wow! What a productive day!  It's been raining here and my household chores are done so I've had some fun in my craftroom.  Here's the third card for today.  This one for the Merry Monday Warm and Cozy challenge which I haven't played along with in the past few weeks.  I need to count but I think this is Christmas card number 31 for me - woohoo!

Card recipe
Papers Graphic 45 and Anna Collins
Cricut - Winter Frolic for the snowman
Metal tree and star brad
Cuttlebug Snowflake folder
Walnut distress and Versafine black ink

And here is the Sketch from Merry Monday

Thanks for dropping by and I hope you're making progress on your Christmas cards too!

Merry Monday

It's a rainy day here and I'm still in the mood to create a Christmas card.  It's not always easy but I know that I will feel much better in September if I can keep making a few each month.

This week's sketch on Merry Monday looked like fun so I joined in.

I decided to use up mainly Christmas cardstock scraps as my folder is bulging and there are still some good pieces available.  I designed all the cuts on my Gypsy and then all I needed to do was ink, add a grommet and ribbon and glue down the shapes.   I modified the rounded rectangle a bit but that's part of the creativity and interpretation of the sketch!

Card Recipe
Papers - DCWV and Recollections
Cricut - Accent Essentials card base, Elegant Edges for green frame,
Ribbons & Rosettes for border with snowman and Winter Frolic for ornament
Ink - Antique Linen, Peeled Paint distressed for oval and Versafine for sentiment
Holly Leaves - Ranger Emerald
Ribbon - plaid from stash, stickles coloured with red marker, grommet and
acetate for oval frame

Thanks for looking and have a great day!

Merry Monday Challenge

I'm still making Christmas cards despite the warmer weather!  I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep this up weekly but every little bit counts.

This week's Merry Monday Challenge

And here's my interpretation:

Card Recipe
Rosette - made with Cricut Ribbons & Rosettes
Merry Christmas ticket and hanger - Tim Holtz
Papers are all leftovers so uncertain of origin
2 buttons layered and from my stash

Have a great day!

Winter Wonderland - Merry Monday Challenge

So I decided to try another new challenge, this time the Merry Monday on the Always Playing with Paper blog.  I don't remember how I found this one but I thought it would be fun to join in as it is hosted by a fellow Canadian!

This sketch for this week

And here is what I created

Card recipe:
Three ornaments are Tim Holtz fragments (top Cranberry and bottom Meadow alcohol inks)
Middle ornament - Simple Stories paper
Aluminium Duct tape for the ornament tops
Red snowflake paper - DCWV Christmas Combo Stack
Pearls added to each snowflake
Star and Candy cane metal embellishments

Thanks for dropping by!
