Sleep Chamber ::: Babylon
"A strange turning point in time. There waz
plenty ov disagreement within the ranks. Jonathan Briley waz leaving.
Two other members were against the style ov the material we rekorded at
these sessions. They played along after the leaving of Johnathan and
decided that the musick waz not going in the direction they were
interested in (Michael Moynihan and Thomas Thorn). A few female hits
and fits just made the split seem the important choice to them. The
spite & fear from "the band waz draining everything from everyone".
A spell I transfixed on everyone... waz the rumor... such arrogance
that I waz requested legally not to credit the two members who played on
the rekordings... (one moved on to THRILL KILL KULT, I guess that's not
dance oriented!). The other one spent his time with Boyd Rice... They
continued to bad mouth me 'till people got tired ov it, then they shut
up. I thought it was funny that the dokument they sent that says 'not
to use their image (photo or name credit) iz actually signed by one ov
their parents! I waz not crazy about the material, but didn't want to
start something new. "DREAMS WHILE DROWNING" iz probably the best. "HER SECOND SKIN" we did 5 versions, couldn't make up my mind which one I liked. "BABES OV BABYLON"
I think we did 5 ov them too. They all stared to sound the same, so
its release waz not to fussy. The printing on the first cover ov the
second letter E, I hated. The second cover waz a flop too. (only 2500
copies made ov each.)" - John Zewizz

Sleep Chamber ::: Sonorous Invokations Ov Brian Jones
SONOROUS INVOKATIONS OV BRIAN JONES is SLEEP CHAMBER's 19th album.
As on BRIAN JONES' album PRESENTS THE PIPES OF PAN AT JOUJOUKA, this album is about the traditional ritual music of Morocco. JOHN ZEWIZZ of SLEEP CHAMBER impressively adapts this music by the use of flutes, horns, bells, cymbals etc., mixed with samples of BRIAN JONES. The last track contains parts of an interview done with JONES during his time in the military. The whole album is underlayed by the typical dark sounds of SLEEP CHAMBER. The result is a masterpiece of classical ritual industrial music, which can be compared to SLEEP CHAMBER's cult album SEXMAGICK RITUAL.
"Through the years John Zewizz has remained a fan of both the early Rolling Stones and Brian Jones. He considered the Brian Jones era of The Rolling Stones as both cryptic and exotic. Brian Jones was the one who introduced the Stones to magick, exotic drugs, and the concept behind the Stones SexMagick LP “Their Satanic Majesties Request”. “Their Satanic Majesties Request” is probably Zewizz’s favorite musickal score. John decided to play homage to Jones and the “Satanic Majesties” LP with the SLEEP CHAMBER release "Sonorous Invokations Ov Brian Jones". The “Sonorous” recordings were set-up at Zewizz’s apartment in a copy-cat fashion to invoke the same energy and layout as the Stones “Satanic Majesties” sessions. On the first day of the recording John greeted Andrew Woolf and his girlfriend Sin at the door of his apartment with "party favors" and took them into his apartment. The whole place was set up like a shrine - with candles everywhere, burning incense, and every blind drawn shut. This was to be an actual invokation. The sessions took 2 weeks. For the entire duration of the sessions no one was allowed to leave the apartment. The outside world ceased to exist. The sessions were plagued by a variety of weird and spooky events that left the participants convinced they had been successful..."

Sleep Chamber ::: Sexmagick Ritual
Sleep Chamber is an American musical band/project from Boston, Massachusetts. Formed in 1980, by John Zewizz, the group has had a wide assortment of members including; Andrew Woolf, Arthur PW, Ashley Swanson, Craig Wien, Darline Victor, Elaine Walker, Eugene Difrancisco, Jacqueline Briley, Debbie Jaffee, Jay Keegan, John Wysocki, John Zewizz, Jonathan Briley, Laura Chopelas, Lawrence Van Horn, Malcom Smith, Michael Moynihan of Blood Axis, then known as Coup de Grace, , Paul Arnold, Richard Geller, Semiramis, Shiela Gardner, Sin, Thomas Thorn, Tione, and performed a wide variety of music. Early works were experimental and considered noise music, with elements of musique concrete. Shortly thereafter, Sleep Chamber was recording ritual and dark ambient music, which continued into the early 1990s. In the late 1980s the band began incorporating more computer generated sounds into their work and produced some industrial music inspired work with content that revolved around sex and magic. The band is reluctant to categorize the music and refers to it as a “soundtrack for sex.”
The popularity of Sleep Chamber’s live shows grew and in the early 1990s they were selling out mid to large size rooms in Boston, such as Man Ray Club, Axis, and The Middle East. A pioneer in the field of ritual/dark ambient and industrial music, the public’s eagerness to see their provocative stage shows allowed them to tour extensively throughout the US and Europe. Their stage show was renowned for a troupe of scantily clad female dancers called the Barbitchuettes. Popular with the gothic and fetish subculture, the Barbitchuettes would preform B&D and S&M scenes for the audience, with lighting and choreography, as well as stage direction and projections by visual artist, 23travis. Sleep Chamber paved the way for bands such as the Genitorturers.
Sleep Chamber’s self destruction began with the death of Barbitchuette dancer and then girlfriend of Zewizz, Laura Graff. Zewizz was questioned by police in the suspicious death before it was ruled an accidental heroin overdose. In 1997 a heroin-addicted Zewizz disbanded the project shortly after returning to Boston from a German tour when he was suspected of the murder of Karina Holmer, a Swedish au pair living in Boston.
Around 2000 the Sleep Chamber project became effectively silent, and it is unclear if Sleep Chamber will release any future material. Zewizz, now living in New York City, has struck a deal with German independent record label FünfUndVierzig to distribute previously undistributed and newly remastered songs.
A very thorough and deeply personal interview about the murder charges and heroin addiction can be found here:

John was also the founder and sole constant member of the III. Reich and BDSM obsessed dark ambient/noise project called Women of the SS
