• Horror of horrors, I was actually disappointed with a crumble this week—the blueberry-apple crumble at Chez Janou. They make a mean crème brulée to say nothing of the chocolate mousse… who would have thought they wouldn’t make a decent crumble?
• I’m feeling fired up at work!
• I’m still loving the Laughter perfume (by Space NK) Chris and Dana got me last year for my birthday.
• I was attuned to many small details that decorate this city and make it magnificently beautiful.
• And I loved hearing the sound of AJ and Mer on the telephone the other night.
From Amy Thomas, author of Paris, My Sweet. A love affair with Paris, New York, sweets and, now, a little girl named Parker.

Sensory Friday
This week, I’m back in Paris but New York is still lingering.
• It felt so good to have the sun’s rays and summer heat on my bare legs.
• Of the many delicious things I ate, I think the very best wasn’t even a sweet—it was the smoked cod salad at Jack the Horse: smoky, creamy, generous, unique and utterly divine.
• I finally listened to La Petit Choue’s kickass birthday mix—all kinds of new musicians. Merci, Kate!
• I was dazzled by the wardrobe and art direction and cinematography in I Am Love—extraordinary.
• But now that I am back in Paris, I am surrounded by one of my all-time favorite things in the world: the smell of freshly baked baguettes. Not even the Egyptian jasmine for Hermé’s perfume smell as good as a French boulangerie at 8 o’clock in the morning.

This week…
I’ve gotten as much pleasure from eating fruit as I usually reserve for chocolate and pastries. I found this wonderful book in London, The Flavor Thesaurus, that recommends different pairings. From it, I made a cantaloupe and grape salad with mint for Erica’s brunch, trumped only by the raspberry and green grape snack salad I mixed all week. Yowzer.
I haven’t been able to get the sound of this adorable girl’s voice out of my head.
I looked up at the sky at the Cinéma en Plein Air and saw pink clouds and twittering stars. Magic.
There’s a pizzeria on the corner near work. When I walk by it during lunch, the smell of the crusts baking in the oven reminds of the pizza smells from growing up in Hartford, CT.
I had that oh-my-god-my-heart-is-going-to-explode! feeling while Velib'ing around the city in the mornings.

This week…
I listened to The Drums again and again and again. (And so should you.)
I saw two movies; a record in recent months. No wait, make that four since I watched two on the plane back from Uganda. The Blind Side, Small Time Crooks, Date Night and Brooklyn’s Finest. (Hey, I said I saw four movies, not four good movies.)
I felt so good getting to the gym every morning (before my membership expires this weekend).
The scent of the lemongrass essential oil my yoga teacher used for our end-of-the-class neck massage made me very relaxed indeed.
This morning, I broke my 10-day pastry-free spell by inhaling a Nutella crepe along with a croissant slathered in Nutella.
