Embrace the Face..

Here I am again....last minute.... ... today is the last day for this month's face challenge at Embrace the Face, which is to include "lace" in our submission....

The topic should have been a beautiful one to inspire something special. But, motivation was lacking ..... the days went by while I was enjoying myself doing other things.... ...... and here it is already November 30.

I couldn't really make lace look like lace on paper.... so, I gave her a "lacy look" cowl on her sweater. Guess it'll do for now....

I was enamoured of pink hair from making some little tree angels....and decided to give her some too....

....and, just because I want to make sure I have some actual lace somewhere on this page.... here is a pin doll face I recently made for a swap on a doll making group.

Guess who's coming to dinner? ....

My dear friend and diva, Madelaine, that's who. She heard about "the dinner" and absolutely had to be there, "dahling".... even if she didn't receive a personal invitation.

..she's been dieting for weeks and so, of course, is hoping there will be cake....

... and..... cake......

She is a 2.5 inch button covered in pale shell pink satin crepe fabric. (crepe side out) Her face is done with watercolour pencils. The hat is faux fur, but the black mink trim is real. A neighbour knows I do dolls; had a coat altered, and one day showed up at my door with a little bag of black mink scraps... very handy for small projects.

The little peacock feather is a gift from Marie Antoinette.... .. truly... .. dolls by Marie ... she raises peacocks. Even has a white one. She gets beautiful white feathers for her angel wings from him... I also have some .... so I have to make at least one angel for Christmas this year.

The blues and greens on the other feathers are just amazing to me....

Why not try your hand a making a face of some sort?.... If you would like to play along at Embrace the Face.... click and have a look at the site.

I almost thought about doing ET for this one...but decided on Madeleine because I had several doll pins on the go.....

Embrace the Face

.......the name of a site I found not long ago. Nothing like getting on the bandwagon at the last minute.... but, I wanted to play along and also wanted to get in at the very beginning of a new blog.

I love faces.... always have ... especially eyes. However, my drawing skills are only really what I learned from a doll making class that I took online and so far have used it mainly for that....drawing doll faces on fabric. But...I have been doodling lots of eyes on lots of paper for practice.. ...so I figured why not jump right in? Check out Embrace the Face and the links to the "ladies".... ladies on paper and the ladies holding the brushes and paints. Maybe if I hang out with them I can learn something new through osmosis...

The first "challenge" was to draw or paint a face ..but also to have a tree somewhere in the creation. Okay...so my trees are not so hot... ...but I haven't practiced any of those yet... hahhahah

My face is watercolour pencil on watercolour paper. Her hat is iridescent indigo silk with a tuft of "fur" held in place by a ruffled variegated ribbon. Couldn't resist dressing her up like a doll I guess. A bit more fur for the top of her outfit completes the ensemble.. the trees are similar to some we see around here....

My thought was perhaps she is a fashion model on location somewhere in the frozen north....
