Bul-Bul Tarang Gang – Kali

Primary

I've posted their second tape four years ago; this is their first one. Hypnotic, elegiac, Arab and raga-inspired psych rock, like a more lysergic, lo-fi Rhyton. 2012 tape on Sloow Tapes.

Razen - Rim Saraband

Rim Saraband () album cover

One of the most "acoustic" but highly droned-out recording of Razen, featuring immersive jams with Eastern wind and string instruments. Awesome. 2013 tape on Sloow Tapes.

Louise Landes Levi, Timo van Luijk, Bart De Paepe ‎– Kami

This is my first rip with the tiny suitcase turntable I had asked for help about. I somehow managed to reduce the noise/clipping so I would ask you to leave some feedback on the sound. Yes, it's definitely not superb, but I guess it's a little bit more than passable. What do you think? A big thanks to badgerstump, wankerd, and Samuel for their help and contact. This is another great collaboration between Louise Landes Levi, Bart De Paepe and Timo Van Luijk, this time moving a little bit away from sarangi-based psychedelic Indian classical music to more progressive and psychedelic rock territory, which is absolutely successful. 2019 lp on Bart De Paepe's Sloowax.

United Bible Studies ‎– Porti Sepolti tape

An extended line-up of United Bible Studies featuring international musicians and playing spacey ambient reminding me of my old Sega Master System video games like R-Type with great combinations of fragile medieval folk. 2019 tape on Sloow Tapes.

Br’laab & Acid Boogie Quartet ‎– Contortionist tape

Extremely lysergic and depressive solo music project by Brecht Ameel of Razen/Het Interstedelijk Harmoniumverbond, mixing lute (played through delay and chorus!) and found sounds. Few recordings can sound as grey and lonely as this. 2019 tape on Sloow Tapes.

Sachiko - Cassini tape

The always sublime Sachiko on a solo work creating two entrancing tracks of devotional, hymnal drone with her voice and viola and a more electronic piece of amplified drone. Highly recommended. 2018 tape on Sloow Tapes.

James Pike - On Your Own Day You Are Believed tape

Achingly and desperately beautiful lo-fi psychedelic folk dirge rock by this Maine singer/songwriter about whom I cannot find any other info or releases. Based on electric keyboards, and organ, while some tracks feature a full band with a slightly dark country sound straight from the '60s, this sounds like a late-night drunken jump from the bridge. Definitely not a party maker. 2017 tape on Sloow Tapes.

Spencer Dobbs - Changed Fool tape (Sloow Tapes)

Beautiful, deep, desperate, drunken late in the night acoustic folk music by this musician from Texas. It starts in a deceptively hopeful manner with "Artifact Moon," which is similar to the tracks from Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska but quickly descends into very depressive territory, kinda similar in attitude to the acoustic folk albums of Scott Kelly and Steve Von Till of Neurosis, but with a much richer sound accentuated by piano, harmonica and a heartbreaking saxophone. I hear influences from the darkest moments of Leonard Cohen and Neil Young's Tonight's The Night, and the psychedelic textures owes to Charalambides, with whom Spencer is affiliated. And then the tape closes with the beautiful, epic and again kinda hopeful "There Is A Dream," closing the circle. Very highly recommended music. I see there is a double cdr version of this on his Bandcamp, containing an extra track and a booklet, and I think he deserves some good support, so snatch it. 2016 tape on Sloow Tapes.

Bul-Bul Tarang Gang ‎– Purandara Dasa Day tape

If Miles Davis hadn't become a coke recluse after Get Up With It but had teamed up with Aphrodite's Child and had moved to India instead, this would probably have been what kind of music he would have come up with. Ritualistic psychedelic, jazz-and-indian-classical music jams with an amazing trumpet player and an ever-present droning harmonium. This is tha shiznit. 2015 tape on Sloow Tapes.

Raising Holy Sparks - Old Times & End Times tape (Sloow Tapes)

Another great tape by Sloow Tapes, this one is an Irish project headed by multi-instrumentalist David Collohan, and features among others Alison O'Donnell of the legendary 1960s-1970s folk band Mellow Candle. The tape presents predominantly dreamy psychedelic material close to floating kosmische music, mainly Popol Vuh, as well as modern-day masters like Natural Slow Buildings and Eternal Tapestry, as well as mournful acoustic folk numbers played on the guitar and accordion. Truly heartbreaking music for the cold sunrises of winter.

Hum ‎– Le Chat Á Neuf Queues tape (Sloow Tapes)

Yet another project of Bart DePaepe, the belgian druid of psychedelic haze, this time joined by one Anne Collet. As usual, expect guitar clouds of smoke, kraut and kosmische worship, along with amazing droning-looped passages of accordion which are tha shiznit of the tape. Great stuff yo, especially track 2 and the hair-rising, dungeon-sounding track 6. 2015 tape on Sloow Tapes.

Bart DePaepe - Blood Clot in the Brain tape (Sloow Tapes)

More drug-addled crawl by the Belgian druid of psychedelic flights, yet this one sounds a little varied, with more kosmische vibes, a touch of blues, and a nice sense of americana. It's like listening to Popol Vuh while driving in a Cadillac to drink tea (well not that exactly...) and watch the stars on Mojave Desert. 2015 tape on Sloow Tapes.

Bart De Paepe ‎– Rhode tape (Sloow Tapes)

First solo tape by Bart DePaepe, boss of Sloow Tapes/Sloow Wax, current member of Amanita Vulva (covered on this blog before) and former member of the mighty Sylvester Anfang II. People familiar with Sloow Tapes and the bands mentioned know what this is about: lysergic, crawling psychedelic haze infested with serpentine melodies, wah-wah, fuzz, delays, minimal drumming, and some amazing accordion in lo-fi mode. 2014 tape on Sloow Tapes.
