Maurizio Bianchi – Tavola Anatomica X

 Primary

I think that MB is getting increasingly hit or miss, but this is industrially on spot. Very lo-fi and enveloping guaranteed industrial noise ambient.

2019 cdr on Tavole Anatomiche.

Maurizio Bianchi / FRAG - Psychation

Collaboration between MB and Frag (Stephen Burroughs of Head Of David!). It deceptively starts in a very hypnotic and psychedelic manner but it ends up being one of MB's noisiest albums in recent years, while of course maintaining its mind-altering basis. 2020 cd on 4ib Records.

Maurizio Bianchi - The Sacral Inhabitat

A question to other bloggers: with the new blogger.com interface do you have problems uploading pictures? It takes me a long time to do it, and if I put the posts in draft mode they are frequently lost.

New MB cd is celebrating 40 years of noise creations. The sound is quite subdued here and it takes effort to recognize them. It sounds a lot like a palimpsest of noises (some of them sound quite old school actually!) and I somehow get a Residents feeling here.... 2020 cd on 4ib Records.

Maurizio Bianchi ‎– B.O. Droni / Praisakustik

This recent MB release reminds me a little bit of his late-90s/early-00s return releases; there is a more ambient/synthy side, less dark but more ascending and slightly new-agey, but not in a cheesy way. Cool. 2018 2 X CDr on BeTon.

Maurizio Bianchi, Land Use, Pharmakustik - Radioked

Yet another collaboration between MB and Land Use and Pharmakustik emitting sinister industrial drone substances. 2018 self-released CDR.

Maurizio Bianchi ‎– Karbona Monooksido

Nice heavy synth ambient and field recordings focusing on toxic poisoning; the sounds are very fitting to the theme. 2018 CDr on BeTon.

Maurizio Bianchi ‎– Dates

Another one of those early reactivation releases of MB around 2000, in which he plays surprisingly calm and hopeful new-wavey ambient. 2001 cd on EEs'T Records.

Nimh + Maurizio Bianchi ‎– Secluded Truths CD

Not as haunting and apocalyptic as most MB releases, this one is closer to a more esoteric ambient approach with nods to space and kosmische music and very slightly new age, albeit with a few pinches of noise. 2005 cd on Silentes Minimal.

Maurizio Bianchi ‎– The Bowls Of Anger

There's something fleetingly beautiful in these high-pitched effects created by MB here, something like an orchestra playing its final notes while on a sinking ship. 2010 on menstrualrecordings.

Maurizio Bianchi ‎– Ludium

The unnerving subterranean MB we have all loved is fully at work here, offering us evil frequencies made on grand piano. Very good. 2009 on Silentes Minimal Editions.

Maurizio Bianchi & TH26 ‎– Arkaeo Planum

Maurizio Bianchi playing glitsch electronics with beats? Well that's a surprising thing. Haven't heard TH26 before to know if his collaborators on this one do that thing, but it sounds as if there are some patently dark MB atmospheres working underneath the beats. 2006 cd on SmallVoices.

Maurizio Bianchi ‎– Apokalypsis XXIII

A very dark recording by our favorite Jehovah's Witness, with quite a narrative structure that intensifies the dark and harrowing atmosphere. 2011 cd on Nitkie.

Maurizio Bianchi - Atholgog 3" cdr

For this year's Easter post, here's some good ol' MB, paying his tribute to jesus, with track titles such as "Kraniou Topos" and "His Death Our Life." The music is typical (i.e. good) MB: mystical ambient/noise/drone, with a more psychedelic touch on tracks 2 and 3, bordering on Popol Vuh and kosmische. 3" cdr on Stridulum Recordings.

Maurizio Bianchi ‎– Colori cd

A significant release in MB's oeuvre in a twofold way; first, it was his return cd after his mid-80s retirement to devote himself to religion. Second, the music contained is in stark contrast with the abrasive industrial noise of his early period, and with his later ominous, dark industrial ambient drone that he still puts out today. This is soothing synthy ambient - with a very very slight new age feel (don't be put off by that, only a wee bit) - that could have been the soundtrack for some documentary on underwater life or the study of the human brain or whatever. There's an element of naivete with regard to the simplistic piano chords/melodies created by MB, but if you want something to accompany you in a non-troubling way while doing the housework, it's cool. 1998 cd on EEs't Records.

Maurizio Bianchi & Sostrah Tinnitus - Concredrones cd

Deep drone/ambient cave-like sounds on this collaboration between the Italian master and Sostrah Tinnitus (of whom I've never heard before). A world of post-apocalyptic post-fallout toxic atmospheres, as observed through underground cave shelters. 2013 cd on Korm Plastics.

Maurizio Bianchi - Akoustikoriginem cdr

Possibly one of the most divergent releases of MB, as in this one he doesn't make people's lives miserable with grey industrial apocalyptic synth sounds, but he improvises on an acoustic guitar, and a prepared one at that on the first track. Someone would call this fifty-two minutes of relentless wanking, but people who have enjoyed Chow Mwng's acoustic guitar deconstructions, or the prepared sounds of Michalis Moschoutis will probably dig this one, too. Still, the guy must be commented on for his indefatigable fingers. 2009 cdr on Lona Records.

Maurizio Bianchi - Technology 1 & 2

A compilation of two early (1981) tapes by Maurizio Bianchi, featuring primitive soulless and toxic synth attack. The first two tracks ("Technology 1) were also featured in the vinyl box released by Vinyl On Demand, which was a few weeks ago posted by the fine Rehashed Blog, but the second "Technology" was omitted. Fortunately for us, At War With False Noise salvaged it and released it in 2009 in cd form.
