Crushing on Card Stock ~ Day 4

Hello!  I'm back today with a card from the last day on my Online Card Class, Crushing on Cardstock.  I love the fall feel of this card.  So what did I do to the card stock?  I used a floral stencil with gesso on the light grey cardstock to give extra texture and also used glitter card stock for some shine.  I had to laugh at my little dew drops.  They are from The Robin's Nest back in the day (10 - 15 years ago?).  I kept them over the years and they come and go on cards.  Apparently, they are back in, maybe they never went away (only I did! lol).  Thanks for stopping by!  Hope your weekend is going well :)

Crushing on Cardstock ~ Day 3

 CASEing ALERT!!

Good day, friends! Today's card is a very close CASE of a lovely card made years ago by the talented Dawn McVey.  It was this card that influenced me to buy the PTI heart dies and Delicates dies.  I thought of this card during Day 3 of the Crushing on Cardstock class I've been taking this week.  So I combined Kristina's technique of painting gold along the heart edges and popping each layer up with foam tape.  The rest is all Dawn's inspiration from this gorgeous card :)  Have a lovely start to your weekend!

Crushing on Cardstock ~ Day 2

Hello friends!  I'm back to share my Day 2 cards from my Crushing on Cardstock Online Card Course.  I used 2 of the techniques from class, using different coloured card stock for my waves.  I have always loved this sentiment so years ago I printed it out several times on vellum.  I've had this last one for AGES and. again, finally found the perfect card.

Up next, I used an old PTI bead die to cut out some beautiful ray shapes.  Two rays were embossed (so happy embossing folders are making a comeback!  I find them much easier to use than impression plates) and one ray was cut from glitter cardstock.  That sweet gold bloom was another scrap waiting on my desk for so long.  I am on a roll with these old embellishments!

Here are the 2 cards together :)

Thanks for stopping by!  I'll be back soon with Day 3 :)

Crushing On Card Stock Day 1 Projects

Hello!  I've been busy these last two days with an Online Card Class, Crushing On Cardstock.  I thought it would be a great way to ease back into stamping and see what's new and what, hopefully, is still around.  Kristina Werner was one of the first bloggers I followed when I first discovered card blogs.  She never fails to inspire me with her creativity.  We learned how to create background patterns out of pieces of cardstock!  It is more labour intensive than I'm used to, but the results are fun as you're never sure how it will turn out until the card is almost done.  Here's the second card...

And them both together as they were created with the same strips of cardstock until I cut them in different ways, cool, eh?

Next up was to emboss cardstock...no problem there!  I had some die cut butterflies on my desk for at least a year.  They were too pretty to throw away and I'm so glad I had them wait for the perfect card.

The last card is used by layering cardstock cut into heart shapes and tearing down the side.  Oh, this reminded me of when I first bought from Stampin' Up!  Torn edges were all the rage!

Thanks for stopping by.  Today is Day 2 but I'm still watching the videos and planning my cards.  It's fun to figure out how to make the cards with only the supplies I have which are always different from the class designers.  Have a lovely day!

Hello There, Birthday Girl ~ Background Check, Day 5 and 6

hellotheremaureenplut

Hi friends!  I’m back today with the last background and card I made for the Online Card Class, Background Check.  I made this background last night and wasn’t loving it too much with all the ink smudges.  I tried to mute the smudges a bit with a water wash, then decided to cover it with vellum! LOL  Now I love it!

background

The two things I’ve loved most about the Online Class are the ways the instructors made cards with their backgrounds AND all the fun, new products to buy!  LOL  I filled up 2 Simon Says Stamp shopping carts! I think I’m most excited about these 2 new to me products…

#

Stick It allows you to turn those little sentiment dies (like the one I’ve used today) into stickers.  I tried using a Zyron machine, but the sentiments are too thin and I would wind up with a sticky mess.  So you can imagine my excitement to see this product!

This Empty Applicator Bottle lid attaches to a mini bottle of glossy accents or any small adhesive bottle.  That little needle controls the flow and allows for precision gluing!  It’s the simplest thing, but I love it!

I’m sure there are more products, but I can’t remember everything on the order! YIKES!  It will be Christmas in August in the studio next week!  Thanks for stopping by!

A Note of Thanks ~ Background Check, Day 6, #4

noteofthanksmaureenplut

Okay, this is the last card today! LOL  I struggled a little bit figuring out how to work with this background.

I tried banners, die cut words, but then decided upon making a little apple sentiment tag like Kristina Werner did on one of her cards.  I love it!  Thanks for visiting!

Just Because ~ Background Check, Day 6, #3

Yikes!  I’m back again!  I have 2 more cards to share with the last 2 backgrounds I made last week for the Online Card Class, Background Check.  First up is the one I made with this background…

I kept it simple so as not to cover up the cool background.  Some bunched up silver thread and some sequins give a little bit of sparkle :)  Thanks for looking!

Adjust our Sails ~ Background Check, Day 6

I’m back with another card made with mixing several colours in embossing paste.  I love the variations in the blue that make it look like a stormy sea.  Here’s the background which was very difficult to get a clear photo of…it’s like my little camera didn’t know where to focus!

Up next are the cards I made for the Day 4 backgrounds!

Celebrate ~ Online Card Class, Day 6

I’m back with the card I made for the embossing paste background.  I thought PTI’s new Guiding Light set was perfect to create this lighthouse.  I had a gold “celebrate” on my work space so added that as well!  Thanks for stopping by!  Next up is another nautical themed card :)

Online Card Class ~ Background Check Day 5

freehand

Hi! I’m back with another background for my Online Card Class, Background Check.  Laura Bassen reminded me how fun embossing paste is, especially when you colour it with Distress inks.  Coming up will be a line up of the cards I made with these past few backgrounds. Stay tuned!

Online Card Class ~ Background Check, Day 4

numberbackground

Today in the Online Card Class, we were using dies in a variety of ways to create backgrounds.  I made two backgrounds inspired by Laura Bassen’s projects.  First up is sort of a combination of Laura and Kristina’s ideas, making my own coverplate with number dies.  Here’s what it looked like before I put it through the Big Shot.

I then layered in on top of some school paper.  I love that the patterned paper has numbers on it!

Next up is using letter dies that have not been detached from each other to create a white on white look.  It looks like the letters are raised, but they have been die cutted out.  Very cool in the photo.  I used PTI’s Headline Alphabet Stamp Set.

That’s it for today!  I’m taking the long weekend off so I’ll finish the class next week.  Thanks for stopping by!

Online Card Class ~ Background Check, Day 3, #4

littleangelgirlmaureenplut

I have been loving the Online Card Class, Background Check.  Not only do I get to play with my distress inks, I also get to replenish my card stash which has been very weary the last year while I finished my Masters.  My goal this summer was to rectify this.  I knew I wanted to make a couple of baby cards with these next two backgrounds.  I added a cute little PTI baby frame and some buttons and DONE!  The girl version…
