THE EVERLY BROTHERS - THE COLLECTION

The Everly Brothers—Isaac Donald "Don" Everly (1937) and Phillip "Phil" Everly (1939 – January 3, 2014) were American country-influenced rock and roll singers, known for steel-string guitar playing and close harmony singing. The duo was elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.

The Everly Brothers were not only among the most important and best early rock & roll stars, but also among the most influential rockers of any era. They set unmatched standards for close, two-part harmonies and infused early rock & roll with some of the best elements of country and pop music. Their legacy was and is felt enormously in all rock acts that employ harmonies as prime features, from the Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, and legions of country-rockers to modern-day roots rockers like Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe (who once recorded an EP of Everlys songs together).

This Collection from the Castle label relies heavily on the Everly Brothers early Cadence recordings, but omits most of the duo's hits like "All I Have to Do Is Dream" and "Bye Bye Love." While all of the material is strong, there are far better collections available from this period, including Cadence Classics: Their 20 Greatest Hits, Complete Cadence Recordings: 1957-1960, and Essential Cadence Singles.

A nice sounding set from Eddie Money while on tour for the first album. Eddie is in fine voice and the band is spot on. Eddie is joined by the late Ronnie Montrose for 2 songs, before ending the show on a mellow note with the bluesy Call On Me. A must have show for Eddie Money fans.                                                     http://fp.io/eda1af1m/

Forty years ago on a monday night, a bluegrass band walked on to the stage of The Boarding House in San Francisco. The band included two of Bill Monroe’s former Blue Grass Boys, guitarist Peter Rowan and fiddle virtuoso Vassar Clements, mandolinist David Grisman and Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead picking banjo along with his bass playing sidekick, John Kahn.

A week later the same group played there again and recorded what would become one of the most influential albums in Bluegrass history — Old & in the Way. Now forty years later, both shows are being released as High Definition (24 bit, 96 khz) downloads on Grisman’s AcousticOasis.com. This will be the first release of the complete shows by this unique ensemble and includes 55 tracks, 14 of which have never been released in any format.

For the past three years Acoustic Oasis has been Grisman’s pet project with many “Deluxe” releases in high definition with much previously unreleased gems from his extensive archives. Old and In The Way - The Complete Boarding House Shows is due for release on the fortieth anniversary — October 1st, 2013.
