TEN YEARS AFTER - THINK ABOUT THE TIMES: THE CHRYSALIS YEARS (1969- 1972)
2010 three CD release featuring albums plus rare tracks all recorded during their time on Chrysalis Records. Their fourth album, Ssssh., issued in August 1969, coincided with their breakthrough appearance at the Woodstock festival, a definite highlight of the subsequent film and LP of that show. Fifth album Cricklewood Green, issued in April 1970, featured their biggest UK chart hit with 'Love Like A Man'. 1971's A Space In Time showed a change in direction, no doubt inspired by the more acoustic sounds prevalent in the States at the time. As well as producing their biggest Stateside hit with 'I'd Love To Change the World', this set is completed by Rock & Roll Music to the World from 1972, a classic mix of the blues and rock 'n' roll that made the band such a successful live draw, with lead guitarist Alvin Lee hailed as one of the fastest players in the world. This set also includes rare b-sides and single edits, appearing on CD for the first time. - amazon.com

Flash - In The Can (1972)
Tag : Flash
"Founded by ex-Yes guitarist Peter Banks, Flash showed how Yes also could have become, if banks hadn't been replaced by Steve Howe (and Tony Kaye by Rick Wakeman). (See my review about their first album, 'Flash'.) The music has a more ballad-like atmosphere, Colin Carter is no Jon Anderson, and Peter banks has a more jazzy style. On 'In the Can', Tony Kaye (also fired from Yes after two albums!) isn't contributing anymore (on their first album he appeared as a guest!), and that makes this album a keyboardless alternative for Yes, dominated by banks' great guitar playing. Like my collegue Progbear said: guitar-oriented epic prog, or Yes minus keyboards." - Paul de Graaf-ProgArchives

FLASH - FLASH 2 (1972)
"Formed by YES-members Peter BANKS on guitar and Tony KAYE on keyboards, FLASH are completed by guitarist-bass player Ray BENNETT (GUN), drummer Mike HOUGH and vocalist Colin CARTER. The BANKS/KAYE partnership was to last only one album, though after which KAYE quit FLASH to form the "Christian-progressive" band BADGER. The group carried on as a four-piece. Now, the band performs a powerful and energetic Progressive rock with less keyboards parts." - ProgArchives

BILL WITHERS - Lean on Me: Best of Bill Withers [1994]
Bill Withers - Lean on Me: Best of Bill Withers [1994]
Composer of two bona fide classics ("Ain't No Sunshine" and "Lean on Me") as well as tunes covered by everyone from Joe Cocker to Kiss, Withers sings with smooth, subtle phrasing that moves along over sinuous, sexy grooves. At times it all sounds so effortless that it's often easy to overlook how substantial his work really is. Never flashy, Withers's best songs burn with a kind of heat that lingers long after the last note has been played. This 18-song collection brings together a healthy collection of songs from this soulful singer-songwriter's remarkable early-'70s Sussex albums, including such hits and near hits as "Grandma's Hands," "Who Is He? (And What Is He to You?)," and the seriously funky "Use Me," as well as some gems from the later '70s (including "Lovely Day").
