ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND - BREWER'S FIELDHOUSE

Allman Brothers Band - Brewer's Fieldhouse
What a difference a month can make!  In January 1971, the Allman Brothers Band was captured twice at the Fillmore West (the other show I've heard was the 31st--and just as uniquely scorching); this show from the 28th is a reflection of how much they had gained in style and comfort with each other since forming in 1969.   Duane Allman, especially, was feeling good coming off his sessions and short road work four months earlier with Eric Clapton, as part of Derek and the Dominos.

Compare it, then, with a show a month later at the University of Missouri's Brewer's Fieldhouse, on February 28th; this is often credited as one of the best versions of "Dreams" that Duane said he did. (This show is a bit choppy with some editing; however, don't overlook a monster solo by Dickey Betts on "Elizabeth Reed.") This show is a rare one indeed to find on the trading block.

Finally, one month more to go, just after the legendary gigs at the Fillmore East in NYC, and and the Brothers were down at New Orleans at a favored place: The Warehouse, on March 20th; later, they would play two of Duane's last shows in September '71.   When Gregg Allman said "The road goes on forever," he wasn't kidding.

ALLMAN AND WOMAN - TWO THE HARD WAY

Allman and Woman - Two the Hard Way ( 1977)

No, this never made it into CD format--and the LP is a rare one too.  (It could be a Jobe special.  And that's Cher before significant plastic surgery too--and not just her face.)  The fact that Gregg had interest in her is partially because Duane thought she was hot and spoke up about it to him. Yeah, yeah, I know "Can You Fool" is on the Dreams compilation--so bite me.  One friggin' commercial song does not make it illegal to post this.  Besides, you're gonna fork over $50 for the box set?  Just hold the spaghetti dinner for later, please, and nod out face-first into THAT!

Allman and Woman - 1977
