A perfect soundboard recording from the Eagles 1994 Hell
Freezes Over tour. I believe this to be a soundobard instead
of an FM broadcast because as far as I know they never did
any FM broadcasts from this tour other than the MTV special.
One of the more popular recordings from their 1994 tour, I
haven't seen this on DIME yet so I thought I'd share it.
Couple of things to note: first, on disc 1 the last track has
both "Lyin' Eyes" and "One Of These Nights" on it. No idea why
these were not plit up, but this is how I got it. These are
original silver CD's BTW, NOT CD-R's. Second, you may be able to
fit these onto 2 discs - again this is how I got it, on 3 discs
and so I've never changed it. Third, there is artwork out there.
I can't upload it but this is a very popular CD so I'm sure a
little searching on the internet and you can find something.
This was the set list through-out most of the 1994 and 1995 tour.
Not too bad - my only complaint was that they played too many of
their solo hits during the second act. I mean, we were there to see
the Eagles! They had so many songs - "James Dean", "The Last Resort",
"Ol' 55", "Saturday Night", the list goes on and on. Otherwise, this is
a fantastic recording, it basically speaks for itself, so please rate
and ENJOY!!!

Tapers Notes:  

The Eagles come home to the City which spawned them--Los Angeles, and to the newly renovated "Fabulous
Forum," former home of the Lakers and in past years, a world renown echo chamber concert hall.

However, the Forum has been completely reborn as a concert hall, so it has new comfortable seats,
acoustic paneling and a state of the art sound system which Glen Frey said was the "best sounding
concert venue in the world, and we've played them all."

Well, Frey may be over-selling the sound, as Los Angeles has the Hollywood Bowl and the Greek Theater,but this was a great sounding show, although I had a whistler a few seats away, but through
some post recording processing, I've reduced his footprint considerably.

Much of the banter is about Los Angeles and the six years they spent here developing their sound and their favorite haunts.  So for the most part, it is probably meaningless to most of you out-of-towners.
But there is a dedication to Randy Meisner.  Don Felder is not mentioned by the boys, which given the
the past lawsuits by the two and Felder's tell-all book, is not a surprise.  Felder did contribute
to writing "Hotel California," the band most successful recording.

The Eagles have performed shows with this static set list for several years now, and the only other Schoeps pulls were two fine recordings by Ed Tyre and Datfly in a couple Florida and New Jerseyshows last year.  So I hope you enjoy this one from the Forum.  

This is a long show, almost three hours of music, so you'll get a lot of bang for your buck.

The Eagles finished recording their fifth studio LP Hotel Californiain October 1976 and it would be released in December.  The band immediately started touring with a setlist that was heavily skewed toweards the older, more familiar songs.

These two discs are sourced from the video soundtrack and have excellent, very clear sound.  The music is upfront and the audience cheering pushed way to the back so there is a bit of a sterile feel to it.  Mid Valley is the only silver pressing of this show.

It’s an interesting show to have.  Even though they were already stars by this point with One Of These Nights nominated for album of the year and “Lyin’ Eyes” winning an award, Hotel Californiawould propel them to even more sucess.  And it seems as if the band knew it would be a hit since they start off the show with the unfamiliar song.  It’s an act of confidence, and it is received well by the audience.

“Lyin’ Eyes,” their biggest hit to date, follows along with three relatively mellow songs “Wasted Time,” “Take It To The Limit” and “Desperado.”  Afterwards Glenn Frey says “There’s nothing more we appreciate than being able to play four or five ballads in a row early on and have you listen to them.  So we’re gonna kick off our shoes now.”

The up tempo “Midnight Flyer” follows with Don Felder taking over the banjo part originally recorded by Bernie Leadon.  “Turn To Stone” reaches almost ten minutes and is a perfect illustration of the late seventies Eagles aesthetic.  Instead of the laid back country L.A. music pinned on them, with Felder and Walsh in the band they were more hard rock – guitar oriented, and those two play an effective duel in the song.

Later in the set they play Walsh’s solo tune “Rocky Mountain Way” (which Walsh changes to “Houston Texas Way”).  J.D. Souther comes out for “The Best of My Love” and wishes  Frey a happy birthday (28 years old). Frey also adds a verse to “Tequila Sunrise” about Mexico in the encore.  Overall, since Eagles titles are hard to find this is worth having.

I had some noisy talkers and a load clapper nearbye. This is only noticeable during the first few songs. It is less noticeable with
the Cardioid (other recording) than with this one.
I had 2 rigs going this night.

Last night of the U.S tour, and they couldn't have closed it better! This was my first Eagles show
but hopefully not my last. The boys were spot on musically and vocally, and impressed the hell out
of me! The crowd around me was very quiet and well behaved, and sat down through the entire show; and
although you can hear occasional clapping and woos, there is nothing too distracting. Enjoy the show!
