CARLY SIMON / ORIGINAL ALBUM SERIES
Carly Simon – Original Album Series (2011)
Carly Simon was one of the most popular of the confessional singer/songwriters who emerged in the early ’70s. The youngest child in an upper- class New York family (her father, Richard Simon, co-founded the Simon & Schuster publishing company), Simon got her start in music as part of a duo with her sister Lucy (who later wrote the music for the Broadway show The Secret Garden).
The Simon Sisters had a chart single with “Winkin’ Blinkin’ and Nod” in April 1964. But Simon’s solo debut did not come until the release of her self- titled first album in February 1971.
Original Album Series includes first 5 albums: Carly Simon (1971), Anticipation (1971), No Secrets (1972), Hotcakes (1974) and Playing Possum (1975)
Simon’s self-titled 1971 debut album placed her…
…firmly in the confessional singer-songwriter camp, addressing the same emotional concerns as her soon-to-be husband James Taylor and Carole King. There was, however, arguably an even more nakedly honest exploration of adulthood on the relationship doubts of That’s The Way I’ve Always Heard It Should Be and the disillusionment of an affair in Dan, My Fling.
Anticipation, released later the same year, echoed much of its predecessor’s hybrid of vulnerability and strong-willed feminism (The Girl You Think You See, Julie Through The Glass), but the major breakthrough came with the urbane sophistication of 1972’s No Secrets, propelled by the evocative put-downs in You’re So Vain and the forthright sentiments of Waited So Long and When You Close Your Eyes.
A more blissful Simon was in evidence on 1974’s Hotcakes, its loose concept celebrating her marriage to Taylor (who guests on a duet of Mockingbird) on tracks such as Think I’m Gonna Have A Baby and Safe And Sound. The following year’s Playing Possum suffered from a dip in quality control, with only the sassy Attitude Dancing making an impression amid the sleek generic pop.

CARLY SIMON / - Coming Around Again [1987]
Carly Simon - Coming Around Again [1987]
Coming Around Again is singer-songwriter Carly Simon's 14th album, and 13th studio album, released in 1987. It is her first of many albums for Arista Records. The title track and "Itsy Bitsy Spider" were both written for and featured in the 1986 film Heartburn.
The title song peaked at #18 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Simon's twelfth Top 40 hit in the USA. It was also a success in Brazil as it was included in the soundtrack of telenovela O Outro. Additionally, it was a top 10 hit in the UK. The album itself reached #25 in both the US and the UK. It was certified Silver by the BPI in September 1987, and Platinum by the RIAA in early 1988. It has since sold nearly two million copies in the US.
Shortly after the album's release, a live outdoor concert also entitled "Carly Simon - Coming Around Again" was recorded in June 1987 at Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts and later released on video. On a pier in front of an invited audience, Simon and her band performed most of the songs from the album as well some of her older hits. The concert was also released as a live album in 1988 entitled Greatest Hits Live, and has also since been released on DVD as "Carly Simon - Live From Martha's Vineyard".
