Small Projects

A friend of my son's is having her first baby, so I thought I'd make a little something. I know her colors are gray in the nursery. I went to JoAnns and found some cute fabrics. I did the back with white terrycloth.
To personalize each bib, I did a simple patch. This one is embroidered with gray floss.
This mini crochet was found in the dollar bins at Michaels.
Just cut this out of felt and sewed it on.
I got the pattern off the internet and there are so many free patterns out there. Very fun little project. I also included a Target gift card, so the new parents can buy some diapers or whatever.

Still working away on recipes and trying to organize my little pantry. Will share the progress soon.

By the way, the little bellhop above was made by E at Creative Breathing. I know some of you will recognize her work. She no longer blogs, but I still love many of her creative projects.

We escaped any bad weather and it will be in the 60's this week. Very nice for walking with Bowie. I hope anyone that got the blizzard is digging out and staying warm. Have a great week!

Where were you?

Where were you 50 years ago when you heard the words "The president has been shot"? I was in second grade and the teacher came in and informed us about that horrible event.
I live in a Dallas suburb now and have been hearing about and seeing things on TV. The window where Lee Harvey Oswald took those shots out of is now a museum about JFK called the 6th Floor Museum. We've been there before and will go again.
Our oldest son has the middle name John after JFK.
I thought I'd pop in because I was thinking about this. Me and Bowie got back after a blustery walk-it's in the 30's here. Really cold for us.
I 've been a busy elf making wreaths and Christmas stuff  That's what my desk looks like right now. I'm gearing up to reopen my Etsy shop. (If I can get a sunny day to take some better pictures.)
Terrible picture above(I think I need a new camera), but I found this little charm for my bracelet from Hubby on the toothpaste this morning. It's a letter in an envelope and says "I Love You". Nice  to wake up to on a cold, dreary day. Where were you when JFK got shot?
I'm taking a moment to remember, and then getting back in the craftroom. Have a great weekend.

Random Monday

Happy Mothers Day to you all. I had a very fun and relaxing day yesterday. Flowers are from son. He also brought chocolate covered strawberries-my fave.
The whole room smells like lilacs. That has to be one of the best smells.
I haven't been thrifting much lately, but got out for a little bit on Saturday. I found these two cuties. I think I'll use them in my craftroom.
I always pick up aluminum stuff. I will add these to my coaster collection.
I've been stitching away on this mini sampler. Almost done.
Mostly I've been taking care of Bo. I thought I'd show you what one week does. The first few days he would just sit and look at the toys. Now he's tearing across the yard with his toy. He loves to play fetch. He's such a happy little guy.
Here he is posing for the camera. We're making some progress on potty training. I forgot how time consuming that was.
Thanks for all your wonderful comments about Bo. He has truly added so much to our family already. Just love that little guy! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

Easter Week

I made these little chicks over the weekend.
They are small and cute.
I found the pattern HERE.
Cute vintage card with bunny cookie cutter found at a garage sale.
This is how my dining room table looks until I set it for Easter dinner. All pieces made by my Aunt Ruth.
Here is is ready for Sunday. I will point out everything I got and from where. You'll be amazed.
Table cloth-the only thing purchased from an antique store. I couldn't pass it up with that pretty applique and hand embroidery. It's layered over a white and pink cloth that was from a garage sale.
Pink plate found on Craigs list-she threw in 2 extras. Silverware-from my Mom.
These cottage plates-found at a garage sale. I had seen them the day before at an antique store with the tablecloth. Of course I had to go back for the tablecloth.
Napkins and duck napkin holders, thrift store. Small pink plates, Goodwill.
Salt and pepper, silver candy dish-thrift store. Candleholders-made by my Aunt Ruth.
Wine glasses-thrift store-I only had 3 for the longest time and finally found the 4th.
You can see I didn't spend much money to get a pretty Easter table. I love the hunt and waiting game to find the right stuff. We're having our usual ham, asparagus, potatoes au gratin, carrot salad and strawberry shortcake for dessert. It never changes. I love making and eating this meal.
Joining Tweak it Tuesday. I definitely tweaked that tablescape. Check out more ideas HERE. I hope you have a wonderful Easter week.

Here Comes Peter Cottontail

I had this sitting on my desk forever and finally finished him. I got the vintage teacup at the thrift store.
I thought it needed a little garden and Easter bunny . I used the prettiest vintage pink and gray rick rack on the edge.
I only finished one wreath. Oh well-there's always next year.
Here's some of my Easter decorations.

The back drop is a page from a vintage Peter Rabbit book.

I found this cute felt couple at an antique store a few years ago. I want to recreate the pattern.
Look at her cute little purse. Mr. Mouse is giving Mrs. Rabbit a posy.
I'll share the rest of my decor next week. The weather has been so nice here. I hope it stays. I've been doing a little spring cleaning and finishing income taxes. I know -I was doing that 2 weeks ago. Have a nice weekend-and get rid of the snow.

Quilt Rescues

You've seen many of my quilts in this blog. Today I'm showing you my rescue quilts. You know-the ones you find bunched up at a garage sale or in a bag at a thrift store. These are mostly those. I have these in my bedroom. Part of the reason I used green with a little pink in the bedroom, was so I could display these pretty quilts.
This was my first rescue. My Mom found an old doctors bag at an auction and won it and inside were these colorful 9 patch squares. I hung on to them from  high school and when I got married, finally sewed them together, added batting and backing and hand quilted the top.  Not that I knew what I was doing.
I even made up the little flower design.I wish I still had that leather doctors bag!
Then my Mom found a few wonderful sets of Sun Bonnet Sue squares. I added the pink and again hand quilted.
I just loved the color combinations that someone put  into these squares.
She found these squares in Arkansas. Someone had such a great eye for color. I like to think of some other women taking time to put this together and for some reason never got to finish it. Did life get in the way? Maybe a family member got sick. Maybe she died. Who knows, but for some reason I feel these must be rescued.
Look at these wonderful appliqued squares.

This top I found at a flea market and loved the colors. I had to do a few repairs. I quilted this when we were having a house built in Arizona. I've had it on a wall in every house since. I think it almost looks like modern art.
Here is my pile in the laundry room. Some quilts are already finished when I rescue them. A few have been made by my Great Grandmas and were given to me by my Mom.
I found this treasure years ago at a flea market. All the hexes were put together, again with beautiful color combinations. The extra fabric was even in the bag. What a find!
Look at those 40's prints!
I've been seeing hexies all over the internet and think it's time to do something with this. I've never worked with a pattern like this, so it will require some research.I guess this is the only way I could afford a quilt collection. Don't overlook the lonely thrift store quilts. With some love and cleaning they can have a new life. Here's my most recent estate sale find.
Can't wait to get started. I've had this nagging cold for the past week and am dying to spring into action around here. I refuse to let this stupid cold hold me back. Hope you are all healthy and getting ready for spring.
