Yesterday's Birthday Lunch at Pearl Cafe (and Animal theme day!)
My thanks to Joanna. I had completely forgotten about the theme day but she pointed out in the comments that as today's City Daily Photo theme day is "Animal" I could still enter! (apologies to my vegetarian readers)
Being that a friend and I share the same birthday, we felt like we should make a bit of an effort so we trotted off with a few of our frocked-up mates to the Pearl Cafe in Wooloongabba. I had the ploughman's lunch because I am a bit sentimental it reminded me of home.... except it was much fancier than any ploughman's lunch I've ever had in England. There was smoked Wagyu, leg ham, homemade pickles, pommery mustard, cornichons, sourdough, French butter, mature cheddar and a mouthwatering dark brown pickled onion which I think was preserved in balsamic vinegar and a watercress salad. It was glorious.
It probably should have been washed down with a mug of real ale if I was being a purist. I plumped for several glasses of ice cold sparkling wine instead. You need it in this heat, really.
Click here to view thumbnails for all participants and hopefully to see pictures of animals more alive than this one.

Waking Up On North Quay
Lately we have been the beneficiaries of many acts of kindness, one being the birthday present from a good friend of a night in a swish hotel on the 22nd floor. You get a whole new perspective on things when you look at familiar places from unfamiliar angles. Especially after a fabulous night's sleep and the prospect of a gigantic breakfast.

Surprise!
My back garden has been a mess recently. After we cleaned up the flood mess, it became a place of storage. Our rescued kitchen contents sitting in old cupboards on top of the garden table. Over them was a tarp held down by plant pots with limp flood-worn Aloe Vera in them. My job yesterday was to not venture into the garden (thank goodness) but to get the remainder of our belongings out of the flat and into the stairwell in preparation for the tiler. I was about to grab a broom and start clearing a spot for our stuff but all my fella was doing was try to get me into the garden to discuss the cupboards. I ended up following him all the while saying "what do you mean we can leave the cupboards with the stuff in here why are you worrying about this stuff it's already out of the flat" etc. Then...
Surprise! I walked out to a garden table with a beautiful cloth on it laden with food and drinks and friends cheering. What a treat! It's my birthday today but I had pretty much decided to postpone it until we had moved back in someone even brought some fresh yabbies (pictured).

Terrible Twos
It's been two years since Brisbane Daily Photo has been online. Actually 2 years and one day but I forgot yesterday. I hope you've enjoyed it so far - it's been hard for me at times to find the inspiration but great to learn about Brisbane and photography at the same time. A big thankyou to everyone who has visited and commented.

Raise Your Glasses!
Brisbane Daily Photo is 1 year old today! I thought I'd celebrate with one of Brisbane's most recognizable celebrities, the FourEx Beer bloke on the side of the brewery in Milton. His perpetual neon wink is enough to put any Brisbanite in a good mood.
As for me, I'd like to thank everyone who has visited over the past year... your comments and encouragement are what keeps me going - Cheers, you lot!
