Elle Decoration: Rustic Blue Hues

Elle Decoration
I really enjoyed Red's take on the blue and white colour scheme for summer (think sun-soaked azure, sapphire and turquoise hues against a backdrop of brilliant white Greek buildings) but Elle Decoration's take on the colour duo is equally as appealing. In fact, this more rustic approach is a more adaptable palette as we head towards fall. Rustic linens and tactile textures in midnight blue and deep navy shades make the scheme warmer and not as saturated; whites, too, are cooled down into creamer shades. There's no denying that a classic blue and white stripe - saturated or not - provides instant style. I also enjoyed the flashes of burnt orange hues seen in their 'decorating' and 'homes' sections. What do you like about this rustic take on the classic blue and white scheme?

Elle Decoration, June 2011 - Get set for summer!

Without doubt this is the best issue from the Elle Decoration team in quite some time. The 'get set for summer' issue does exactly that: It helps set up your home for summer by providing decorating ideas for the warmer months ahead. From new summer colour palettes to light and airy home tours, the pages are filled with inspirational ideas for updating your home and improving the way you live both indoors and outdoors. Yep, as well as their usual decorating news, the team have included an idea-packed feature on creating a beautiful garden space whether you wish to host alfresco dinners or just relax in the sunshine. Another favourite spread was June's 'At Home With', which features the colourful home of textile designer Fi Douglas. Whilst we're on the subject of top notch home tours, this issue also affords us with a nose around the beautiful and delicate home of Swedish-American artist and photographer Kristin Perers. So as you can see, this sure is an issue for keeps. What stands out from the issue for you?

Magazine Sneak Peek - Elle Decoration, May 2011

The May issue of Elle Decoration is such a visual treat: candy-chic pastels and soft linens take the spotlight in the bedroom special, whilst vibrant yellow hues shine against inky, navy blues in their 'Object of Desire' story. Not surprisingly, a strong spring theme runs throughout the issue, with plenty of refreshing, open and airy spaces featured on the pages within. The mid-century-modern feel to the Los Angeles-based home tour caught my eye, as did the dining room inside the Danish summerhouse. Here are my picks, but what's your favourite?

Elle Decoration, April 2011

ELLE Decoration delivered a top notch issue for us this month, full of refreshing ideas for spring, including their biannual pattern book that details the title's fabric picks for the coming spring/summer season. You can also expect to find a tabletop story imaginatively styled around a fresh blooms theme, a knock out kitchen from the book Pale & Interesting and a list of the seven deadly decorating sins. But if we're being totally honest here, the real reason I loved this issue was because it includes a tour of Jonathan Alder and Simon Doonan's new York apartment. I know much of it's done the blog rounds, but there was something exciting about seeing it there in print. Consider it teared and in the inspiration files, friends! What jumps out at you from the issue?

Elle Decoration, February 2011

This month's issue of Elle Decoration is so jam-packed with ideas, you would be forgiven for feeling a little unsure of where to start by the turn of the last page. I found myself tearing page after page - and I've not done that for quite some time. February's features are inspired yet accessible - a good balance for this more high end title. Inside you'll find: 21 easy ways to revamp your kitchen; decorating with classic whites with a citrus twist; a tour of Swedish textiles designer Lotta Jansdotter's New York apartment; the eclectic Brighton home of artist Jayne Neale; a guide to displaying the things you love and, of course, an array of breathtaking homes - my favourites being a dramatic white apartment in Munich and a character-filled New York warehouse space. Dive in and tell me what's stealing your heart!
