Happy Weekend: A Ten Minute IKEA Hack

Welcome to the weekend, friends! Today I wanted to share this quick, easy and super fun DIY project by Paul from Design and Beyond. Paul is a student studying Interior Design and wanted to give the IKEA furniture in his rented digs a quick update. Taking inspiration from the colours and stripe pattern on his bedding, Paul decided to paint simple stripe details onto the drawer fronts of his MALM chest of drawers from IKEA. In a matter of minutes Paul was able to turn a very ordinary piece of furniture into something that expressed his personality and pulled his bedroom scheme together. It's simple decorating updates like these that I find so inspiring - graphic, colourful and simple. Bravo, Paul! What are your weekend plans, folks? During the week I had some new office furniture delivered so I'm going to be clearing out my office and getting my new shelves stocked and sorted. I'm also keeping fingers crossed for one last summer BBQ because London is going to be scorching for the next two days. Have a great one and thank you for your company this week.

Five Creative Ideas For Using Wallpaper

1. St Antoine BP 947 | 2. Peony BP 2302 | 3. An assortment | 4. Closet Stripe ST 364 | 5. Brocade BP 3209 - All Farrow & Ball
Picture the scene, it's Tuesday afternoon and I'm craving creative inspiration. After all, Tuesday is just that pesky not-even-middle-of-the-week day, right? So I was really happy when I clicked over to Farrow & Ball and saw their fun and creative suggestions for using wallpaper. Many of these ideas are perfect ways to temporarily add colour and pattern to your home. Perhaps you're a renter who loves wallpaper but you're not allowed to paper the walls? Idea number four - creating a wallpapered lampshade - is a clever and quirky way to use your favourite wallpaper without needing to touch your walls. Short on time? Number one is for you, as it would only take a matter of minutes to cut a length of paper to fit your cutlery drawer. The statement art panel - idea number two - is an affordable way to make a big, dramatic statement in a large space, and the bunting suggestion in number three would be a fun project to do with kids. Finally, if you're looking to blend an unsightly wardrobe or piece of furniture you could paper it in the same pattern as the wall to trick the eye. My favourite idea is the lampshade but which is yours?

Happy Weekend: Colourful Wardrobe DIY

Happy weekend, friends! I'm so pleased the weekend has arrived as I've just moved into a new apartment and I'm keen to start putting my stamp on the place. I have curtains to make and furniture to arrange, rearrange and then rearrange again! Plus, my mum is visiting for the day so I'm looking forward to catching up and going for a little shopping trip together. What are your plans? If you're looking for a fun DIY then this project is a perfect way to add bolder hues into a bedroom space. By painting the inside of the wardrobe in a hot hue, you only see it when you open it - a quirky, unobtrusive way to add colour. Start by emptying the wardrobe, masking the desired area to be painted with tape and then sanding the wooden surface down. Wipe clean with a damp cloth and then priming with at least two coats to give a better final finish. Once dry, paint with your desired colour and varnish when dry to protect it. Finally, peel off the masking tape for perfect edges. Too busy to DIY? No fear, you can buy these colourful wardrobes from Bababua. I'd love to know what colours would you choose if you did this DIY?

Happy Weekend: Wall Sticker Updates

Today I'm sharing these super fun wall stickers from Spin Collective, which I think are ideal for bringing a quick update to a space - especially if it's rented. I'm sure you've been in the situation where you're itching to grab your paint brushes and let loose your creative spirit upon your walls, only for your landlord to put a stop to it. Sound familiar? Well, a wall sticker is a great way to have some fun with your walls without causing any damage. Pick carefully and you can have a stylish addition to your home on your hands. I've picked out some that caught my eye. The clock would be quirky (and practical!) for a desk area that's short on space, whilst the toy solders would be such a fun decor feature in a playroom. (Not to mention the smile they bring to my face each time I see them because they make me think of the toy solders in the Toy Story film!) What are your plans this weekend? Are you headed out to play or staying in? I have a mountain of work to catch up on after being sick last week - rubbish! No doubt I'll mix in some playtime as well; I think a trip to the movies is on the cards for sure! Have a good one.

Colour Palette: Statement Ceiling

If you're thinking of ways you might be able to introduce bold and bright hues to your home this week's Colour Palette is for you. Here we can see how this space remains fresh and airy despite the raspberry coloured statement ceiling. This bold introduction of colour works well because it doesn't dominate what is a relatively small space yet makes it stacks more interesting than an all white scheme. The key takeaway here is to pick a communal or walk through space such as a hallway or a landing, where you will be able to be more adventurous with your choice of hue.

Happy Weekend: Painted Door DIY

I've spoken before about enjoying a balance between relaxing on weekends with trying out new projects. This painted door DIY project gets the balance just right as it won't take up a whole day, or create too much mess. Rather, a simple paint job will leave you with a striking new feature totally personalised to your home, and for me, there's nothing more satisfying than that! To achieve this DIY, start by wedging your wooden door open and sand it down before painting it with several coats of primer. Once dry, use a pencil and tape measure to draw a diagonal line from one corner to the other and masking tape down down side of the line. My top tip is to then paint a think layer of primer over the edges of the masking tape to seal it; this helps to prevent any of the final paint coats from seeping underneath. Paint one side in your first chosen hue up to the edge of the masking tape and allow to dry. Gently peal off the masking tape and reapply a new length of tape to the edge of the newly painted line and seal with primer as before. Paint your second colour up to the edge of the masking tape, allow to dry and then peal off the tape. To complete the look you could add new hardware pulls to the door. So fun, right? If you were to do this DIY, what colours would you choose?

Happy Weekend: DIY Spectrum Banisters

Yeah! The weekend has arrived and I couldn't be happier to have two days stretched out ahead of me to relax. Although I do have a little bit of work to do, I'm going to make sure I take time to pop to the flower market and take in some inspiring sights and scents. If the whole weekend was free, I'd love to try out this graduation banisters DIY. Easily achieved in a weekend, you should start by using old newspaper to cover the stairs before sanding down each individual banister, wiping clean and then coating them with two coats of primer. As the primer dies work out your graduation on paper and then give each shade a corresponding number and pencil each number onto the banister so you know what colours to use when. Once dry you might wish to varnish the banisters to make the more durable to knocks and scratches. The result? A stylish colour statement for your home! What are your weekend plans, friends?

Happy Weekend: Nautical Staircase DIY

For many of us north of the equator, the days are drawing out and the sun shining for a little longer as we move deeper into spring and closer to summer. Given nautical themed interiors are always popular for the spring/summer season, I think this graduating blue staircase is the ideal DIY for this time of year. Easily achieved in a weekend, I would start preparing your wooden staircase by sanding it down then wiping clean with a cloth before coating everything with several coats of primer. After the final coat of primer is dry, paint the stairs in a matt white eggshell. Once dry, number each stair front with a pencil to ensure the number of graduated colours matches how many stairs you have, matching each number to one of your paint colours. Next, section off the individual stair fronts with masking tape and paint inside the lines. When dry, peel the tape off carefully and then seal with several coats of floor varnish. Finally, add a rope for a handrail by tying it to hardware rings for a finishing nautical touch. So fun! Have a great weekend, friends!

Happy Weekend: Colourful Door Mat DIY

I'm all for increasing curb appeal but in a rented place I'm unable to paint my front door or upgrade my facade, but what I can do is add some temporary pizazz! How you ask? Well, in the from of a DIY wooden door mat painted in multicoloured hues. A fun way to give visitors a hint of what to expect inside your home; tone town the shades if you like a pastel look or up the heat with hot hues for a brighter finish. You can sand down an existing wooden door mat and then prime, paint and seal it, or you can make the whole thing from scratch. Either way, the result is so perfectly Bright.Bazaar that I just love it! What are your weekend plans, folks?

Happy Weekend: Entryway DIY Project

Welcome to the weekend, friends! What are your plans? I'm hoping to fit in some DIY time with the trusty glue gun, but if I had an entryway big enough in my apartment to take a side table like the above, then I would make it. I think it would be a fun piece to DIY: you could find an old table at home or from the flea market, then ask a carpenter to saw to size. Back at home, after sanding it down and applying a layer of primer, dive on in and paint it with your most colourful hue - the result would make for a really colourful welcome in the hallway. Of course, the super chic Merci bag is optional, but recommended...! Have a good one, folks.

Quick & Easy Weekend Decorating Idea

Martha Stewart Living | Photography by Jonny Valiant
Call me weird but my weekend doesn't really feel complete unless I have a little project on the go. It doesn't have to anything big, I just like to feel I am making progress with something, especially if it means making my home all the more enjoyable to be in. This idea from Martha Stewart Living to paint the edge of a door is the perfect weekend project: it's quick, easy and provides a dramatic effect when finished. Also, this is an ideal project if you want to dip your toes into brighter hues for the first time. What are your favourite weekend DIY's? I'd love to discover some more!
