Worlds of White

WHITE
can be relaxing, inviting, enveloping and can conger up images
of sleeping in a French chateau

it can also whisper a of a time gently passed...

Thunder with beauty all the while,
Graceful.

White can lead you to blissful new places,

or at ease in your own home...

Happy White Wednesday friends.

RICH DECOR : A EUROPEAN ESSENCE

Lovely thoughts of the holidays still linger...
Warmth radiates from this golden dining room.  Loving the combination of European antiquities,  rich yet simplistically perfect.
~
Will be striving to bring this essence to my interior design work for clients this year.
~
The beam across the room reminds me of the apartment I rented in Paris., here below.

DO YOU HAVE A New Year's RESOLUTION YET,
what are they?

St Nick

St. Nicholas Day is special at the homestead

St. Nicholas Day is special at the homestead
in the authentic tradition,  wooden shoes are put out for St. Nicholas, not stockings
* " He had a reputation for secret gift giving, such as putting coins in the shoes of those who left them out for him, and thus became the model for Santa Claus, whose modern name comes from the Dutch Sinterklaus, itself a series of elisions and corruptions of the transliteration of Santa Nikolaus"
ours are filled with nuts, yarn and other goodies...

All to enjoy while working in the study/ office. The homestead, circa 1796, is so easy to decorate for the holidays, especially in a country cottage almost French country style-
Merry Christmas!

SIMPLE PLEASURE: A FALL TABLE VIGNETTE

It is so easy to create a Autumn display; so many textures and colors can work together.
Here in the library at the homestead I have combined white ceramics pumpkins
and  twigs from the yard that are always plentiful in this season...

then stacked some antique books

to fill the large coffee table, which used to be a pre primary school table. I put it on small metal vintage rollers so I can move it around the room.
Hope you enjoyed!

collage of items from my Brayton Cottage shop...

a plea for help on which accessory to select!

my Humpty Dumpty...

HUMPTY DUMPTY sat on a wall
and this HUMPTY DUMPTY was handmade by me. Every year at this time, right after Valentine's Day, I start to work on my Humpty Dumpty dolls. Well, maybe more of a toy~ decoration. I sew them up with muslin, stuff , paint and then draw directly on the fabric egg with permanent marker. .

I have made him (or her) to order for family and friends and is always my favorite baby gift to give (sometimes lighty hand painted with pink or blue).
I have had him copyrighted, as many projects are planned for his future (not scrambled eggs). This inspiration, this love of Humpty all started when my Mom quilted my twin brother and I each a Humpty Dumpty when we were born...

thanks,
Karen

my guest bath

Come on in so I can show you around my guest bathroom. Putting a bathroom in a house built in 1796 is not an easy task. Originally, the Homestead had no bathrooms, enough of that...

No really, please come in. It is not very big, but it is bigger than it appears. Originally this room was called the "BOURNING ROOM". Yes, a room to deliver children in. Isn't that incredible?

The louver doors to the right open to a washer and dryer with shelves above. Another door near it opens to a shower. All tucked away to look old but very convenient. The floor is classic small black and white check ceramic tiles and the wallpaper is by Erica Wilson, one of her beautiful needlepoint's.

To the left are shutters that open to the sun. The white flowers grow wild in my yard, I just love them! Still around since college is the white plaster sculpture I made, and I still love it too...

thank you for coming by,
Karen

Vintage Silver All Aglow

When getting up recently in the middle of the night to make a cup of peppermint tea , I switched on my bedside light and started walking out of the room. I turned back for a second and could see this wonderful glow.

So I went a got my camera and starting taking pictures.
Yes, about 3:00 am!

Now, this problem is getting serious dear friends.
I have always loved taking photos, but since blogging
~ I am a bit overzealous!
Is this happening to anyone else? I see so many things during my day to photograph and share. I am pleased with the outcome of these pictures, are you?

An antique silver lamp graced with a needlepoint shade, a beat up candlestick, my dragonfly monoprint, books that are really boxes for easy to grab items, and a Pottery Barn cordless phone all hang out together...

enjoy...
