Love Fridays!

Loving Friday today, as tonight is the start of an extra long weekend for me (and lots of other people, no doubt.) Having Monday off, and you've gotta love a public holiday for a horse race. Enjoy your weekend folks.

Blogtoberfest giveaway winner!

Thanks to all the peeps for entering, it showed me there's lots of vintage reclaimed love out there, so I'll do another giveaway along similar lines pre-Christmas.
Mr. Random Number page came up with:

Number 9 (possibly he's a Beatles fan?)...which corresponds with Anja! So all these sweet things are off to Slovenia. Congratulations!

PS. Because I was having fun with random numbers, there's a runner up prize containing something handmade, vintage and edible...that goes to number 6: The Essess. I'll update with a pic when I work out what the prize is...hahah.

E-mail me at : podbobbins(at)gmail(dot)com with your mailing details gals. Thanks.

Made by Me at Brown Owls

Kittehs! Chickens! A puffy kitteh! Lots of fun was had. I always seem to lose my mind at Brown Owls and can't focus on anything, but these nice gals were very patient with me. Anna Laura showed us how to make puffy brooches, and I made a cat as per the one she showed us. So it's her design, and a kitty badge made just for me to wear. Most pleased. More Brown Owls pics here.

PS. If you were there and heard me babbling about our new Bag Pod, check out the info I've put here...see if it makes more sense. The stats on the Morsbags page also suggest that bag recyclers are still the minority of shoppers and that plastic bag usage is still overwhelmingly prevalent. So please join in!

Cuteness at work

Scoping out my camera.

Baby magpie - will look cute for food.

Here's today's little work friend, he's in the office down the hall from me. I didn't find him, but he's very cute, can't fly at all yet, and likes eating dog food. (That's what the goop is all round the corners of his beak.) When you go up and say hi to him*, he starts quietly chattering to you, and then once he's established you're not foe, he starts demanding snacks and sqwarking.

* he could be a she, I have no idea!

Sunday Stash

This is one of the latest additions to my stash, and probably my current favourite. Newly received last week from Retro Mummy's shop, a very cute Japanese print with bunnies, birdies and deer. (deeries?) Apart from the cuteness I love the faded effect of the print...now, what to make with it?

Play along with Sunday Stash.

A hot evening

Why have I put this song in you wonder? As it was a hot one today, I was overcome with a sudden urge to have a shandy with my dinner. Does anyone still drink these anymore? I did feel a bit like a good Aussie sheila whilst consuming my bevvy. But ah! so sweet and refreshing... shandy is not a dirty word! Next time you go to the pub, try asking for one!

As an aside, I feel I must mention (as it is Blogtoberfest), that somehow I managed to change my Facebook into all German by accident last night...and I hadn't even been drinking!

Come join my pod!

Reading the new Frankie (as you do) and I came across Morsbags. I quote "Morsbags is part of a global community project that helps people come together and sew up fabric bags out of recycled material, then give them away to encourage others to stop using plastic."
I couldn't see a Melbourne/Victoria (as I know we've got regional crafty peeps out there) so I made one called "VicPod". Wanna join my pod? I've just registered it this morning, so if you check the site over the next day or two it should be there for you to join. - To find the pod, go to www.morsbags.com, click on"POD PAGE" and then "TOP OF THE PODS", if you scroll down that list, near the bottom (with 0 bags made) is vicpod. Click on it and it should take you to our pod page.

And I'll do the Facebook thing too.

First podding day will probably be in mid January 09 - probably a central city location, I'll find a venue and get some gear together and then we can bag out together!

xx steph

Blogtoberfest giveaway time

Hello Festie Festerers,

As giving away stuff is good, I'm joining in the fun. What's up for grabs? This little pile o'stuff, mostly 70's vintage-y:

  • little 1970's mousie notepaper set (this was thrifted, so it doesn't have the original amount of notepaper and envelopes in it) ...still extremely cute
  • for kitteh lovers, a vintage set of Avon soaps shaped like kittys in stockings "Furry Purry and Scurry"...you know you want this!
  • a Ladybird book for reading or arty-crafty-farting with
  • a thrifted decorative plate that also has extreme cuteness value and says "Consider Yourself Loved" (stamped 1978)
  • a pack of Japanese Pinky chewing gum (which is thankfully not vintage)
and crafted by yours truly at Brown Owls:
  • a white men's sized hand-stiched owl design handkerchief
Leave me a comment if you'd like this little pile o' booty (and if no-one enters I'm quite happy to keep it all ehehheeeh <--evil laugh) up to October 29th. Then I'll random number a winner.
'kay?

High Fidelty meets Rockwiz meme

Becky over at the Small stuff has a rather goodly musical post in response to last week's Fave Friday theme, so I thought I'd play her meme too.

1. Your first musical idol.

A couple - Rolf Harris - all that singing songs, wobble boards and painting. And the Beatles - because of that Beatles cartoon that used to be on.
Also as kids we used to love the episode of the Goodies 'Almost Live' where they sung various songs... I can still sing you 'Throwin' Up' or 'Cactus in my Y-Fronts' or 'Funky Gibbon' or 'Nappy Love' to this very day.

['Almost Live' is on You Tube here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3.]

2. Your biggest musical shame/embarrassment.

Probably the fact that as a teenager I did indeed go to Band Camp.

3. Your special musical talent?

Mine's a bit like Becky's here, I can make up words to songs and make them fit, or make up silly songs on the spur of the moment. HP is the mega-talent at this, his silly songs are extremely good. We like a good sing along.

4. A musical thing that you wouldn't do in public.

Does dancing count as a musical thing? You won't get me to dance.

5. The last band you saw live.

Was the Moffs last month, for old times' sake. I was supposed to go and see the Reels and the Models the other week, but totally mixed the dates up and missed it (I had a ticket and all!!) Spewin' mate, because I LOVE Dave Mason. (How cute is this clip from 1988? By the way Reels = embrace the irony and sillyness and just enjoy)

6. Favourite live music experience.

Argh so many! The Go-Betweens on my 18th birthday are a pretty good memory.

7. If you could see any band/musician live tomorrow, who would it be?
The Avett Brothers. I know they're all hairy and not purty and all, but they kill me. Listen to this one:

I won't tag anyone, but play along if you like.

For Pip

Bah to the ARIAs! First off, some fun:

And some Countdown goodness:

Harmonica James? What harmonica? [You probably only need to watch the intro to this one, unless you're a Crawl fan. I must admit I have a soft spot for Guy and his mullet.]

Here's Bop Girl again! ahahha.

All please rise

...and applaud the goodness that is Naomi's handmade bookcover! What a ripper! Such a pearler demands some serious op-shopping talent. And now let the sausage jokes begin. Wunderbar!
Bellgirl, please feel free to contribute an inappropriate German phrase.

Brown Owls last night...

cat
more animals

...was a hoot!

Normally I blog this on Shabby Chicken, but here's a little pic of my booty from last night...door prize (thanks Barrel Girl Brooke), Danielle Owl, and my GRRR notebook. (I wish I'd made the back of my embroidery tidier, but not to worry. Sharon has another pic of it here.) And I am also the happy owner of one of these! Go Hokey! Thanks again to the Brown Owls gang for making it super-fun and hi to all teh cool blogging peeps I chatter to without even realising who you are! Yes I'm looking at you Hoppo Bumpo(...and Nomes too, for that matter.)

A meme without a name

Bex over at A Deed without a Name suggested this one for a Blogtoberfest meme.

Instructions:
Take a picture of yourself right now.
Don’t change your clothes, don’t fix your hair - just take a picture.
Post that picture with NO editing.
Post these instructions with the picture.

So here you go, here's Drewzel and I on the couch, I'm putting stuff on You Tube, and she's snoozing. Play along if you like.

Some more of my faves

...fave Aussie movies that is, clips via the Australian Screen website. I've put some on You Tube here if you'd like to see them.

Australian Screen provides the clips for non-commercial and educational purposes only...etc, copyright, legal stuff.

78 was gr8!!

...and I was 8.

This clip is firmly entrenched in my memory from Countdown:

As a little kid, I thought Kate Bush was totally freaky. (But good.)

New Spotty

This arvo my buddy Bec and I braved the opening day crowds and went to the Franky Spotty opening. Nothing remarkable, just a big Spotlight in a big ugly concrete shopping centre. I didn't buy much, just a fascinator hair comb kit to make for a Cup Day gathering (aka "Hat Day") and some embroidery floss. As we had a 4 year old in tow, I didn't get a chance to look at the fabric section, but it's nice to have a big store nearby. Yes peeps, I now live about 3 minutes (by car) from Spotlight. Curly Pops are you jealous? ahhahah.

[The image above is the car park that used to be across the road from the old Frankytown Spotty.]

By my decree

Retro Rock n' Roll, originally uploaded by mandyrocksout.

And to justify my self indulgence, let's make today 'Blogtoberfest Fave Friday'! What's one of your favourite songs ever? You Tube it or just tell us all about it and why you like it.
PS. If you play along with "love Fridays" don't forget to do that as well.

PPS. I think I got around to nearly everyone in Blogtoberfest and commented...if I didn't call by your blog, it's because work blocked it as a "chatroom"...yes it does that to some blogs all the time. Particularly Linda and Anastasia. And yes, I should be working.

PPPS. I better do my own meme! This song makes me think of being a teenager in the 80's, to me it's the musical equivalent of one of my favourite films. I love the lyrics, the sense of yearning, loss and possibility it contains, and the Triffids were a great band. The vid is a bit naff, but hey, it was the 80's.

One of my more recent faves would be this one.

Pic from Miss Retro Modern's fab collection here.
