It's Springtime & Maggie Is Dead

As much as you mofo's in the UK are celebrating The Grand Dame's demise, it means jack shit to me. Guess what- in the Olympics of asshole rulers of the free world (1980-2013 division), she doesn't even win the bronze.

Here in the States alone we've had Reagan and Dubya. You're guyz have had Blair. Maggie ain't squeezin' into that triad.

So she invaded an island full of Penguins? Hell, at least she didn't go toe to toe with the Russkies or an entire religion!

Besides, think of all the great songs that you woulda missed out on!!!!!!

The Punk Floyd

Old Roger Waters (actually quite spunky), brought his "surrogate band" around to the local enormo-dome and let us fans knows where he really stands.

Reconfiguring The Wall from a self absorbed bitch session about isolation into an Agit-Prop paean to anti-war, Waters eradicated the rock star angst and showed that even millionaire rock stars can reinvent their most famous works into a far more cogent and compelling presentation.

Unlike the original self pitying premise of Old Pink, who blamed his problems on daddy croaking in the big one, women, teachers and success; Waters has turned The Wall into an outright attack on war, both past (WW2) and current versions. There are many visions of war and destruction (both personal and property) that are extremely disturbing. More than once I had to turn away. Waters is serving up harsh lessons along with the rock n roll.

Thus, "Mother" becomes a metaphor for the Government. "Run Like Hell" becomes an attack on polictics rather than a commentary on fascism in rock crowds; and the "Pig" becomes a vehicle for political sloganeering. Additionally, there were not so veiled attacks against mass merchandising (especially Apple), religion and big business. Punk Fucking Rock.

The actual show is mesmerizing and overwhelming. The Wall is built during the show; but with the various visuals and special effects, you hardly notice until all of a sudden, the band disappears. Luckily, we had seats directly opposite the stage, and were thus able to get the full head on presentation. Those with seats on the side lost the ability to view "through" the holes in The Wall due to the angles.

As far as The Wall being a Waters solo vehicle. It always was. Creatively, it was always his vision and Pink Floyd (especially Richard Wright) were session players in the original presentation. David Gilmour's presence is always missed, however, his role was filled by a singer who aped his vocals pretty well (if anonymously) and two guitar players.

There was a really neat part when they played "Mother" in which Waters dueted with himself (using video from 1980).

We ended up getting a pair of tix that listed for $300 for $100. And just got in as the show was starting. The only negative on the whole night was the $12 24 ounce can of LaBatts that I consumed. But that's rock n roll! Or something.

I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH HOW GREAT THIS SHOW WAS AND HOW YOU MUST SEE IT IF YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY! It was truly a landmark event that I will never forget.

In The Flesh?

I am contemplating seeing the Roger Waters "The Wall" show as it is in my town in the next week. I have seen all varieties of Pink Floyd post 1980 and loved em all. As much as I am a Pink Floyd freak, and as much as a spectacle it will be, I am reluctant to part with the $$$ (nosebleeds start at $75 and times are tough). I missed seeing The Wall back in the last century, when the real Pink Floyd (Waters/Gilmour/Mason/Wright) toured it on it's initial run because I didn't have the $15 that the tickets cost. I regret that, and I will regret not seeing it this time around if I can't find a cheap ducat.

Times change, but they don't really, do they?

Embarking on a different course, I am posting up some songs that came on at random this morn. There should be enough diversity here that ya'll should download em all.

Have at em.

Not With A Bang, But With A Whimper

This is how it ends.

The "Swine Flu".

Shit, there isn't any swine flu. Someone opened up one of the "seven vials".

This is how the Government is going to solve the recession. Knock off 1/3 of the World's population.

You're going to start seeing military personnel in bio-hazard suits pretty soon. The local police will be on "crowd control". The media won't be reporting very much of it, just glancing asides as something more mind-numbing (no doubt a celebrity scandal) fills the airwaves. Until of course, the Gov't takes over the radio and TV stations.

Another couple of weeks, the net will be full of hazy images of bodies burning in fields. Corpses being loaded onto flatbeds with pitchforks. Countries will start closing down there borders. But it will be too late.

Then the religious hysteria will start. The "end of days" extremists. Group suicides. Cities will burn.

Or, maybe I'm still just a little "enhanced" from the Dead show the other nite.

In that case... never mind!

The Great Gig In The Sky

Pink Floyd keyboard player Richard Wright passed away the other day at the age of 65. Fucking Cancer.

Pink Floyd is one of my favorite bands and all you punks who think I'm crazy should read the lyrics on albums like Dark Side Of The Moon and especially Animals.

Here's some live Floyd stuff showcasing Richard Wright's work. The video is the classic Echoes from the Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii film.

(Un)Comfortably Numb

Stress is nothing more than a socially acceptable form of mental illness

So, is it better to feel nothing or to be affected by things to the point that it's personally damaging? Sometimes the self medicating just isn't effective.
A friend of mine explained to me that "some things are just bigger than you and it's nothing to be ashamed of". I'm not so sure about that. But it is certainly worth trying to pick curtain #2 rather than always selecting curtain #1. Maybe there's something better than canned squid behind it.

Old And Insane

This guy is bad news. Our country is totally fucked and McCain is gonna do his best to keep it in a downward spiral. Wanna keep the war going? Vote McCain! Wanna ban abortion? Vote McCain! Wanna kill free speech? Vote McCain! Wanna keep assault weapons legal? Vote McCain!

Back in 2000, McCain seemed to be a great candidate for the Republikkkans. But after Bush/Rove destroyed his rep, it seemed he was a done deal. 8 years later, he is fellating Dubya and courting the asshole half of Amerikkka.

4 years of McCain = another four of Bush.

Milk, Milk, Lemonade

This one comes by way of a cyber-sation I had with Sugar Mag. It started out with my aversion to cheeses that are not of cow origin. I do not want ANYTHING to do with goat cheese (or milk) or sheep cheese. That stuff is just too funky for the Nomad clan. Feta cheese is pretty popular, but keep it away from me. And, although I am a former vegeterian, I never got off on that soy cheese stuff either. I want my MOO milk products. I still won't eat a cow, but I got no problem imbibing their lactate! And you know, Keef Richards doesn't eat cheese at all! And if that dude puts everything else in his body, and won't eat cheese, maybe he's on to something!

So, then it got to talking about Human milk. Is there anything wrong with adults drinking human milk (or making ice cream or cheese from it)? After all, it's really healthy and the preferred beverage of choice for infants. So, what's the taboo on grown ups taking a swig?
I look at it as sort of cannibalism. I never had to nerve to partake when I had the opportunity in the past. Which is sort of ironic, when you think about all of the other bodily fluids that are generally exchanged between folks. And yet, here you have something that's good for you and people stay away!

Veneratio Thy Matris

"Well, you came into this world naked,
screaming and covered in blood
who was there to wipe you off and give you your first hug?
And it took a couple years to figure out how to not shit in your pants
but someone was there to clean you up and powder off your rash"

With Mother's Day around the corner, Bleedin Out takes time to honor the women who's wombs we sprung forth from. Musta been nice in there, all warm and wet and safe.

And leave a comment! Your mom would want you to!

Work Shall Set You Free

I hear America singing, the varied carols I hear,
Those of mechanics, each one singing his as it should be blithe and strong,
The carpenter singing his as he measures his plank or beam,
The mason singing his as he makes ready for work, or leaves off work,
The boatman singing what belongs to him in his boat, the deckhand
singing on the steamboat deck,
The shoemaker singing as he sits on his bench, the hatter singing as he stands,
The wood-cutter's song, the ploughboy's on his way in the morning,
or at noon intermission or at sundown,
The delicious singing of the mother, or of the young wife at work,
or of the girl sewing or washing,
Each singing what belongs to him or her and to none else,
The day what belongs to the day- at night the party of young
fellows, robust, friendly,
Singing with open mouths their strong melodious songs.

To Sleep, Perchance To Dream

I am accustomed to sleep and in my dreams
to imagine the same things that lunatics imagine when awake.
~Rene Descartes
"Meditations on First Philosophy"

Having some real sleep related issues as of late. I have always been a very vivid dreamer. But lately, it's been a nite at the frikkin movies everytime I get shut eye. And the dreams are so intense that I'm more tired than ever when I wake up. As an added bonus, I am having trouble differentiating my dream state from reality with regard to my memories. There have been quite a few times where I think back to events and I am sure that things I dreamed about actually happened.
Whether is is stress related or brought on by a significant reduction in my consumption of intoxicants is up for debate.

But that's all my cross to bear, not yours. You benefit from my soporific albatross by getting access to the Bleedin' Out Dream Mix. You got to download the whole thang. While it won't incur slumber, it'll rock ya in yer pyjama's.

Cancer sucks

This is pretty cool. Here in the U.S. of A., "second base" is a term for getting access to boobage. So, some good folks out there came up with these Breast Cancer Awareness shirts. Hey, it's a good cause and the shirt is awesome. I plan on wearing mine to church.

More info on the origins of the shirt can be found by clicking on the shirt image or by hitting this link that will take you to a Newsweek story.

Syd Barrett - The Madcap Laughed

"It's awfully considerate of you to think of me here
And I'm most obliged to you for making it clear
that I'm not here"
(Jugband Blues)

Now there’s a look in your eye’s,
like black holes in the sky
(Shine On You Crazy Diamond)

The story of Syd Barrett is pretty well known at this point. The mad genius who founded Pink Floyd and departed the scene (thanks to drugs and insanity) before their commercial triumph.

Roger (Syd) Barrett founded “The Pink Floyd Sound” (named after 2 blues musicians) in 1965. Originally, the Floyd’s sound was more blues based, but with the increasing popularity of mind altering drugs, Syd’s song writing became more adventurous.
Along with Roger Waters, Nick Mason and Richard Wright, Pink Floyd became the preeminent Psychedelic band of swinging 1966-1968 London. Syd experimented with various techniques in both Pink Floyd’s live and recorded output, utilizing feedback and delay gear to great effect.
Virtually all of Pink Floyd’s first album Piper At The Gates Of Dawn as well as all of the early singles were written by Syd.
Unfortunately, drug abuse would prove to be destructive for Syd. His bizarre behavior in live settings would prove to be increasingly untenable for the rest of Pink Floyd. Episodes of Syd standing motionless on stage and unable to play or playing completely against what the rest of the band played became increasingly unacceptable to the rest of the band.

The rest of the band brought in David Gilmour as a second guitar player. The plan was to go with a 5 member Pink Floyd. Unfortunately, this didn’t work out, as Syd went further out into the dark globe.

Eventually, it got to the point that the rest of the band didn’t bother to include Syd in recording songs or live shows and he officially left the band in 1968.

Syd recorded two solo albums (enlisting the help of the rest of Pink Floyd, especially David Gilmour, who produced many tracks). The Madcap Laughs and Barrett are full of whimsical visions with often child-like lyrics. Most of the material reportedly was written by Syd during his time with Pink Floyd.

Syd did a handful couple of live performances between 1969 and 1972 and virtually disappeared from the Public eye until his death in 2006.

Syd Barrett's effect on Pink Floyd looms large. Entire portions of later day Pink Floyd masterpieces such as Dark Side Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here and The Wall were written about or directly influenced by Syd.

His departure from music and sanity was truly a loss.
