Meet The New Boss
Yay!!!!, we survived the Repugnikkkans "regime change" attempt. Thank (insert imaginary deity of yer choice).
But the boss I'm talking about is The Velvet Underground. Been listening to a few "tribute comps":
Unpiecing The Jigsaw: featuring Buffalo Tom, The Wedding Present, James and this Echo & The Bunnyman riff on Foggy Notion:
and
American Velvet: featuring Frank Black, Mitch Easter, Frank Agnew and this Jonathan Richman epic:
Sing along with Jonathan..........
Jonathan Richman - Velvet Underground
They were wild like the USA
A mystery band in a New York way
Rock and roll, but not like the rest
And to me, America at it's best
How in the world were they making that sound?
Velvet Underground.
A spooky tone on a Fender bass
Played less notes and left more space
Stayed kind of still, looked kinda shy
Kinda far away, kinda dignified.
How in the world were they making that sound?
Velvet Underground.
Now you can look at that band and wonder where
All that sound was coming from
With just 4 people there.
Twangy sounds of the cheapest types,
Sounds as stark as black and white stripes,
Bold and brash, sharp and rude,
Like the heats turned off
And you're low on food.
How in the world were they making that sound?
Velvet Underground.
Like this...
Wild wild parties when they start to unwind
A close encounter of the thirdest kind
On the bandstand playing, everybody's saying
How in the world were they making that sound?
Velvet Underground.
Well you could look at that band
And at first sight
Say that certain rules about modern music
Wouldn't apply tonight.
Twangy sounds of the cheapest kind,
Like "Guitar sale $29.99,"
Bold and brash, stark and still,
Like the heats turned off
And you can't pay the bill.
How in the world were they making that sound?
Velvet Underground.
Both guitars got the fuzz tone on
The drummer's standing upright pounding along
A howl, a tone, a feedback whine
Biker boys meet the college kind
How in the world were they making that sound?
Velvet Underground.
Wild wild parties when they start to unwind
A close encounter of the thirdest kind
On the bandstand grooving, everybody moving
How in the world are they making that sound?
Velvet Underground

To Serve Man
I'm giving Obama until Thursday to restore my 401K to where it was a year ago. Otherwise, this "change" thing is bullspit! I want wine to flow from the water faucets, manna to fall from the sky and disease to be eradicated! I'll give him until Friday for that.
Clearly, the stakes are high with this regime change. I saw something on CNN stating that his inauguration speech " is one of the most anticipated speeches in decades, with many expecting his words to be chiseled into marble some day."
Nope, no expectations at all!
And how long does the honeymoon period last before the bitching and moaning starts up?
I'm kinda hoping that he comes clean about Area 51. I think that would pull this country and world alot closer together if he let's on about some imminent Alien attack. Hey, it works in the movies! OK, maybe not!
Toonage:

Johnny Thunders - Blank Generation (live)
Jonathan Richman - Stop Your Sobbing (Kinks cover)

The Home Stretch
How will the Repugnikkans steal this one? Voter fraud? Pre-programmed voting machines? Armed guards preventing voters from getting in? The possibilities are endless!
Whatever. Nevermind. As long as we still have rock n roll, how bad can things be? Oh yeah. Bad. Real bad!
But today was one of those days when the right batch of tunes came over the mp3 player on the commute in. The kind of songs where you get that feeling of "holy shit, I forgot what an awesome song this is". And then you hit reverse and play the fucker again and again, singing out of tune and messin' up all the words as the people around you think you're insane.
Yeah. Rock n Roll.
Toonage:
King Khan And His Shrines - Land Of The Freak
New Bomb Turks - Chip Away At The Stone (Aerosmith cover)

Now playing: Social Distortion - Playpen

Shipping Off To Boston
The Nomad clan are up in Boston checking out the sites and catching a Red Sox game. Nazz junior took the punk rock aesthetic to heart and long ago chose the Sawx as his favorite team. This of course was driven by the frontrunning a pre-teen (circa the dreaded year of 2004) will do as well as his opportunity to f#ck with Dad, as I root for the Noo Yawk Mets and Yankees (yeah, I'm bi-teamal).
But that's cool. As Bobby D sang "Your Sons and Your daughters are beyond your command". Hey, Nazz Junior... reject all that is good and pure and go to the dark side by casting aside your parent's values, and I wouldn't have it any other way!
Hey, at least Fenway is a cool stadium... not as cool as Wrigley Field, but pretty cool nonetheless. They got a kick ass brew pub with-in staggering distance of the Park, so I'm set.
I am leaving all my Yankee shwag at home; as I promised Mrs. Nomad that there will be no fisticuffs. Oops, better leave my Giants stuff home too! Methinks I'll be dropping a nice amount at the Fenway souvenir stands and Filene's Basement for junior and the princess however!
Hey Red Sox fans- remember this?
And mmm... Harpoon and Sammy A's!
But I love Boston for one reason:
JONATHAN RICHMAN!
Has there ever been a more unlikely proto-punk? The guy is some sort of prepped out mutant and he comes up with Roadrunner? I'm Straight?? She Cracked??? Astral Plane???? Pablo Picasso (was never called an asshole)?????
Yeah, Boston's got Aerosmith, J Geils, the Dropkick Murphys and all those silly straight edge bands from my youth (This is Boston Not L.A. still makes me giggle).
But what do you say Modern Lovers????? RADIO ON!!!!!!!!!!!
Toonage:
Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers - Roadrunner
Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers - She Cracked
Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers - Pablo Picasso (was never called an asshole)
